This :poop: is why people hate buying cars.

It won't sell at that price in SA. Used to live there and nobody is paying $66k for a KIA. I wonder if they would offer a lease deal on it and what the residual would be...

LOL. Good luck on that one, guys. God I hate dealerships.

I'll sell you my MBRP for $2999, that's $1000 savings!

Lol. The justified invective. Trouble is, it's not reaching the mark. A dealer that does this needs to be thrashed where lots of potential customers can see it.

Did some quick math just for fun. With that marked up sell price and the MSRP per the sticker (no markdowns), 54% residual, 6.25% tax, no acquisition fee, 2.99% APR:

36m/12K mi per year

1218/mth after tax....LOL.

Are you calculating the residual based on the MSRP or the total sale price with dealer added options? ;)

The 99 dollars for Nitrogen alone stands out for me like a red flag. The fact they'd even try to pull that would have meant a pivot on the spot and back out the door.

I fully expect they would simply have lowered the factory shipping pressures per PDI requirements anyway (if they even bothered to do that), instead of actually refilling with a few cents worth of N. Not that it makes any meaningful difference for a street vehicle anyway, vs. the 78 percent Nitrogen everybody else gets for 'free'.

Anybody resorting to those kind of shenanigans has put their ethics proudly on display, and is not worth even attempting negotiations with.

Yes, because I'm pretty sure dealer add-ons do nothing for the MSRP/residual calculation.

*Clarity* Residual is 54% or MSRP, but price paid is the paid price (does not factor as a benefit to residual).

Is the nitrogen charge actually going away these days? Been seeing dealers pushing that for years. When I factory ordered my Mustang, I saw they tried to add nitrogen and VIN etching. I told them to take those of and I am not paying for them, so if they screw up and do it, that's on their dime. Everything went smooth until the finance office where he had that on the invoice. I fought over it and they took it off. Scum bags.

My dealer had Nitrogen, pin stripes and window tint as a dealer package option (markup) for $995. They said it was standard on all their vehicles. I told them they could leave them on or take them off but I wasn't paying for them regardless. Also pointed out there were no pin stripes on my car. They immediately took the markup off without further discussion. I also had them transfer my All weather cargo mats, tray and mud flaps from my old stinger to my new one at no charge. I've been tempted to get my windows re-tinted darker but haven't gotten around to it.

I see less of the dealers trying to push nitrogen as consumers get more educated - thank the internet (and forums) for that. Pretty hard to justify something like that with an knowledgeable consumer when it's questioned - both the salesperson and the dealership end up looking bad.

I bought a BMW a few years back and after hours in the dealership negotiating a satisfactory 'out the door' price, the salesman came back with the sales paperwork and it had a 'security etching' charge of 500 dollars pre-printed on the document. When called on it, he had a well rehearsed reply 'that is mandatory on all our vehicles' and couldn't be taken off - so I told him to go back and rework the price so it was included, as I wasn't paying extra for it. He did, and I bought the car.

When I did my final inspection when picking up that car, the 'security etching' turned out to be a half dozen serialized metallic stickers stuck on the hood, fenders, trunklid, etc. When questioned on THAT I was told that was how 'security etching' was done now, using a 'permanent adhesive' that could not be removed by criminals (!). Within a year, half of them had fallen off. 500 dollars!

For the Stinger I took a different approach to buying. After much market research, I contacted every dealer in the province, said I was ready to buy, and told them up front what I would pay for the car in the trim level and colors I wanted. I told them the bill of sale could show any additional charges they wanted - but the final number had to be the price I would pay. All of them told me they couldn't do that price, which I expected - but two dealers in Calgary were at least serious, and countered.

After considerable extra back and forth (phone calls and email), I ended up purchasing from one of them, and ended up paying the price I wanted - for a brand new car fresh off the transporter.

By the way - for a lark I pulled an online 'Unhaggle Dealer Cost' report on the Stinger AFTER purchasing it, advertised as 'The Smartest Way to Buy a Car'. Their absolute bottom line 'Dealer Cost' after all available incentives, etc. before adding ANY dealer profit (which Unhaggle recommended should be another 3 to 7 percent extra) was considerably more that what I paid. Trust no one ... :cautious:

This is good to know and what I was thinking! Upon looking at the BMW I've been eyeing up, I also pulled an Unhaggle report and found the "average" markup seems to be 7% on the M240i. While negotiating 5 to 7 percent off was a good starting point, I have seen NUMEROUS posts on Edmunds (where everyone goes to talk about leases) of customers getting 10, 12, or more percent off their M240i, at least in the USA.

Needless to say, if I do decide to go back and negotiate, sounds like 7% should be the starting point! Good to see some confirmation that my premonition that Unhaggle still has some wiggle room is probably correct.

$99 for nitrogen in tyres is the greatest scam in the world. It makes zero difference to normal dry compressed air.
