I've got two Android App issues I'm hoping someone might be able to help with. These may not be Kia specific, but I've never used the app anywhere else..

  1. When using Waze through the app, it does not keep up and maintain my direction correctly.
  2. When driving at night it does not auto dim. (it does on my phone and when using the onboard Nav)
Thanks for any guidance.

Check the app settings.

1) Under 'Map Display', there is a setting for 'Lock North-Up Mode'. If turned on, the map orientation isn't going to follow the car's direction - North will always be UP in the display.
2) In the same section, there is a Mode setting for Night/Auto/Day. I have mine in Auto, and it switches automatically.

Thanks I will check those out.

Waze has been acting funky for me but just for the last few days - specifically not accurately locating the car on the map as well as screwing up the direction. I even force stopped the app but no love, wondering if it's a Waze thing or just my phone.

I use it in AA with my Samsung S8 twice a day and so far for me, no problems at all.

Mine has been too for about a week now. Waze works fine on my phone but when trying to use it through Android Auto it's almost useless. I did find if I start the Waze app and then plug my phone in and pull up Waze on Android Auto that it works a lot better but still some issues.

I found the same thing that loading Waze BEFORE plugging it in works better, but still not as good awaze on the phone. I wonder if using Waze via android app gets GPS data less often, resulting in the issue... (just a thought)

Where are you putting your phone when connected via USB and using AA/Waze? AA apps are running o the phone and displayed on the radio. If you have it i n a compartment thephine GPS and wireless signal may be impaired and cause Waze to not work efficiently.

I thought the same thing, so I put it in the cup holders.. I was thinking the wireless charging slot might be interfering with the signal.. No noticeable change by moving the phone.

I keep the phone in cupholders or on the passenger seat. The inability to accurately place the car on the map is a new phenomenon, though. I tried starting Waze before plugging in and after, closing the app and restarting, etc. - but no love. I haven't driven the Stinger in a few days to see if it's gone back to normal but I'll check later this week.

Try clear data and cache for AA on your phone, when i used AA i often have problem that was solved by clearing the data and cache for AA.

I tried this and it seemed to be working a little better but was still a little funky. I also did a software update on my phone so that may have played a roll as well.

I cleared it and it did work a little better, also noticed that my car icon came back. Then the Android App wanted me to upgrade, I did, then it seemed to go back to mis-behavin. So I cleared it again and did not upgrade, seems to work a bit better.

I think part of the upgrade of AA should include clear data and cache, because its problem has persisted since i first used AA like 2 years ago, and clearing this often worked for me.

I’m in a similar position. Waze worked fine for over a year with no issues. In the last 2 weeks it keeps freezing and crashing. Using a Samsung 8.

This is weird. Never had a real issue with Waze and AA. On a couple of occasions it seems to take a minute to figure out where the car is when I start off, and once or twice it complains about loading, but it always figures it out before I'm out of the neighborhood and I'd be paying any actual attention to it, anyway. I keep mine in the wireless charging compartment connnected with a 1' USB with a 90 degree bend at the phone end connector.

I also have not had any problems with Waze and AA and am using an S8. It saved my azz friday.. 45 zone that should be higher, usually go 60-65 through it. Got the cop sighted ahead message and sure enough, there he was. I was like, thank you Waze :) Didn't want to be the first to get a ticket in the Stinger, hoping the wife will take that honor :)

I've experienced similar Waze issues in my car, also on a S8. Sometimes it doesn't track the car properly, then will catch up. I've tried running AA with the phone in the wireless charging area and in the cup holder, no difference. Strangely google maps always seems to work. Think it may have something to do with the entertainment system in the Stinger. In my last car I had a Kenwood headunit that ran Android Auto and never had a issue with Waze.

I've also had instances where I have a USB stick plugged in to play FLAC audio and run Waze on the phone without connecting to Android Auto and it works just fine.
