Android App and Waze

Waze doesn't keep up. I drive along and it thinks I'm still at work when I'm almost home, then all of a sudden will catch up. Not very useful at that point. I have an S10+.

Not a android user but, does the app work properly when not hooked up to android auto? Like just use the waze app on your phone and see if it follows you.

There's a lot of people online that posted in the Waze forums regarding this. It has something to do with the latest Android Auto update. I've been having the same issue for the past few months. I'd enter a destination in Waze via Android Auto and nothing would happen. Or if Waze was working, it would routinely lose GPS signal and my location indicator on the screen would be in the same position. Supposedly, the Waze support team is aware of this issue and they've been working on a fix.

There is, however, a temporary (albeit inconvenient) solution to get your Waze to work. Open up Google Maps on Android Auto and enter a destination. Then switch to Waze and enter a destination. Your Waze should then be able to locate its GPS position. I've been doing this for the past couple of months and it's worked 90% of the time.

Maybe it has to do with the firmware version on the head unit. I'm running the 12.5.. what version do the people having problems run? I have the S8, updated AA and most recent Waze, so I would think the head unit firmware could be the difference. Waze also works fine in the Telluride through AA.

It's not just the Stinger. Waze does the same thing in my company's brand new Altimas.

I'm at a loss then unless different versions of Android.. doesn't make much sense.

I've had an issue where if I'm on the phone while using AA and Waze, the GPS stops working, and the map tilts 45 degrees. Last 3 weeks AA has been freezing every 45 min or so as well.

I just got an update on the waze app tonight, maybe bug fixes?

I updated my Waze app today and the GPS/navigation is still not running properly.

Partly why i stopped using AA in my cars and got my self a tom tom. because it "never works properly". Always problems.

I poked around with some settings and now Android Auto, Waze, and other Android Auto apps are working perfect for me. This is for a Samsung Galaxy S10+ on Verizon running Android 9 Pie, so may be different on on different devices.

In settings->Apps
I went into the app settings for Android Auto Waze, Google Maps, and every other app I use with Android Auto.

Under Mobile Data, I turned on both Allow Background Data Usage and Allow App while Data Saver On

Next under Battery->Optimize Battery Usage click on the drop down menu Apps Not Optimized, then click on All

Then search for all of the same apps and click on the slider switch to turn OFF optimization for each app you use with Android Auto including Android Auto.

I came to post something along the same lines, I noticed on my S10+ if I turn off medium power saving mode it seems to work much better.

Just to provide a bit of an update, I've been in contact with Waze team and provided debug logs a few times to them and some further testing to confirm the fault... Waze team are aware of the issue and I've been told a fix is already been worked on (and sounds like it might have already passed some initial testing and could be soon ready for release!)...

FYI: It's not specific to Kia head units or anything like that, it occurring on a wide range of car brands when connected via Android Auto (AA), Waze will work fine until it's connected through AA.

All the best!

Hi all, please try update to the latest version of Android Auto and Waze then try again... I've been using it for a few days since the last updates and it's been working again... Good luck

Mine still has been working top notch on the Stinger and Telluride. I just don't get how it works for some of us and not others..weird

Mine is doing the same thing in my Stinger and my wife's Elantra. It's frustrating for sure.
