About to take the plunge..push me or hold me back

If some can walk into a dealer and get it for $35-38k, than that is what they are worth. Cant be any more true than that. If people can get one for 38, than how is it worth more? (Besides to the individual not real world). And I am an enthusiast of cars otherwise I wouldn't have owned as many as I have over the last 20 plus years. How can you say I'm not, cause you're butt hurt that I can be honest and unbiased about cars and I've pointed out some faults of the Stinger that are in fact based in truth. I own a stinger and it's a good car for the price I paid for it, never said I didn't like it, just said there are others out there and im not gonna play the immature bs my current car is the best biased crap. Sounds like if you owned any vehicle and belonged to that forum, that car would be the best ever. I've just owned enough to know not to get involved in all the hype. I've liked many of my cars, some more than others. It has helped me learn about cars, their strengths and faults without having to trust some paid for review.
I was here to play devils advocate and give a different view than everyone elses, and it turns into coming after me because I point out some truths to help someone decide by being an individual instead of going along with the groupthink. I'm on this forum because it's good info, because of aftermarket parts availability, for ammo in case there is a warranty issue, for conversation without being crucified for having a different opinion, and because I like the Stinger. It's a good car, I just know there are others out there, but it sounds like Stinger owners cant admit to anything but there cars being the best and faultless, instead of being true enthusiasts and liking other cars and providing other opinions and options that are positive and at least slightly unbiased.

Don't make yourself out to be a martyr of some sort or that you've been slighted in any way....you can write as long of a post as you'd like but the point is still .....you said the car is worth no more than 38k yet sticker has it at 52k....
This machine is far from the end all be all of cars but for someone like myself; Optima owner for 8 glorious years now, it's a great transition.....I've researched for the past 3 years on what my next decade vehicle would be....unlike you, I don't swap cars weekly or have a history of owning hundreds of cars....I've driven high end cars and dreamed about the possibility of getting one Certified preowned....E400 coupe, Audi S7 are 2 that made into my final list(see thread on topic)

But you and Calisting in a very condescending way make the Kia Stinger appear to be unworthy of the attention it has garnered.....this forum, which I'm very new to, has been a great outlet for me to immerse myself into my next car.....all of your "complaints " might be true but they sound much more like the consummate badge snobs take on the car vs an enthusiast' perspective......this is make take on your take.....we'll agree to leave it at that because I'm not changing your perspective and you're not going to change my end goal....

Butt hurt? Nah,

Your points made it sound like the issues are common to all Stingers. Some people have experienced some of them and some have not, but not all have. Your price for an over 1 year old car is what it is worth after being on the market for that long, heck, I would ask for at least $12K off at a minimum on a 1 year old car to allay the depreciation.

$12k off for a one year old stinger is about right. I traded in a 18' Charger 392 and got $38500 for it on trade when it stickered for $44,500 and I paid about $40k out the door no money down. Lost about the same on my 3 odysseys Van's, but they all needed tires, coolant and trans flush, and rotors...so it was a wash. 18' civic Si I traded I maybe lost 500-1000 on actual value. So maybe in your world losing 12k in a year on a car is acceptable, but not mine. Bought my GT2 for roughly $35k new then after 899 dealer fee, taxes, tag, registration, misc fees, it was $38k. It's worth $36k on trade today. So 2,000 isnt a bad loss. But 12k is horrible...sorry. that of course is just my opinion

Take the plunge. Make sure you get a 2019 and not a 2018. Good value and a pretty good car. Not up to the standard of the Germans but does cost far less. Depreciation on a KIA will be high and the paint and leather quality is abhorrent so be aware of that.

First year model owner of 14 months now , i don't see any flaws on paint or leather or anything else.

My only critism is heat insulation from the transmission tunnel is insufficient.

Not even gonna read all of this thread. DO IT. I love this car. It does everything well. Most things great!

Mine is a 2018 made in Dec 17. My only criticism was the fading stereo which got replaced. Turned out to be a good thing since I got map 12.5 for free. No other issue.

Well we have 2 of them.
2018s
So you probably know my recommendation.

Issues
A few
Total repaint of the yellow one
2 x radio replacements
2 x differential replacements
2 x cracked tailgate panels replaced
Small paint issues with the red one and some tailgate creaking
The emergency break switch silver part is bubbling on the red one.
That’s my next trip to the dealer.

Would I do it again?

Yep

Thanks for your input, I want to take this opportunity to share problems I have had with my 2014 Porsche Cayman S
1. Door panels warping due to Florida weather
2. Sports Chrono stopped working
3. Windshield glue melting due to Florida weather
4. Doors are rattling from inside
5. Random error messages about headlight malfunction taken to the dealer and say don't know what is causing the issue
6. Headliner sagging due to Florida weather
7. Premature cracking of leather seats on driver's side

I hope your problems gets solved, so far so good on mine.

A/C wasn't working on mine the day I got it, now finally a warm day in Florida, and it's not working again. Heading to Kia myself at 4pm, but they will take care of it. So, it's all good, just an annoyance on a $51,000 stickered car.

It's all good, all part of owning any car. As long as you have good customer service and service Department taking care of you, it's all good. Just a bump in the road.

Great service from Kia here. You have a two-thirds chance of landing a good one: that was the ratio noted a few months ago in a Consumer Reports (iirc) survey of automobile owners' satisfaction survey.

I would definitely pay a little extra for a 2019, I think a lot of the early problems have been fixed and in the US at least we had a few more features added in. I have zero regrets and would buy again in a heartbeat.

As far as Kia depreciation goes as long as you are in it for the long haul that isn't a big concern. A personal anecdote is my friend bought a CPO Volvo S60 a little after I got my Optima for a little more than I paid new, I was a little jealous, but the Optima still better optioned and a little bigger. Anyway years later we both sell them within a month of each other. A zero effort Carmax sale netted me almost three times the price. Not bad for a "high depreciation" Kia.

If you really want to see high depreciation buy a 12 cylinder German car. :)

Well, I traded in my 18' Dodge Charger 392 and bought my brand new snow white 18' Stinger GT2. I got the GT2 for $38,400 but after the trade allowance of $38,000 on my Charger and the equity I had in the trade, I financed $18,000. Funny thing...sticker on the Charger 392 was $44,400, I paid $38,500 for it, so I only lost $500 over 4 months and 1000 miles of ownership.

Between the reoccurring AC issue of my new Stinger, the audio going to the back speakers everytime I hang up a bluetooth call and having to into settings to readjust, the squeaks when entering a steep driveway from a flat roadway, rattles from doors and hatch area as going down rougher paved roads and imperfections. Auto start stop in traffic (having to remember to hit the button everytime you get in the car otherwise the jolt can startle you as it starts roughly everytime you come to a stop), tight interior for a sedan, poor quality leather (color fastness and thickness), poor quality paint, and the 2 step pedal for wide open throttle, junk building up in door sills and brake vents that cant truly be functional or at least effective ( look at how it directed outside of wheel not drafted behind wheel lip), brembos are not as good as other 4 pot brembos I've had on vehicles owned, UVO stinks compared to say uConnect, lack of info like oil pressure, air intake temp and exhaust temp which is found on less expensive cars that are non turbo, location of infotainment screen (reach and line of sight, bezel is too big). Worried about the turbos, and the direct injection with carbon build up and low speed pre-ignition (yes it has a long warranty, but wouldn't it be better not to have to use it.)
Very, very beautiful car on the outside and inside, love the headlamps and interior led ambient lights (have not had that since my 14' Mustang GT Premium and missed it), car is punchy and has a bullet proof motor, wish the 8 speed was as good as the ZF transmission, also shift logic is good but not great, paddle shifters should be made out of better material instead of plastic, center console armrest feels chintzy the way it closes, most of the drive modes feel similar except sport, piping of fake exhaust note through speakers (Ford did it years ago and got hate and laughs for it), while the fit and finish of the interior are very good, the plastic bits like the window switches shouldn't be in a $50k car. Absolutely love the HK sound system is great as was the Lexicon in my Genesis. Buttons are very well laid out as well but would like to see digital temps near controls instead of infotainment screen, no heated rear seats or steering wheel in GT2 RWD but standard in less expensive autos, steering wheel is thin but flat bottom is nice.

What each person can live with differs from individual to individual, but after only a month of ownership I am trading it in on a 19' Ram Larimie Longhorn. Funny it's a truck and I find it's more luxurious than the stinger inside. Wouldn't say this for prior years. In a Cadillac XTS right now for a rental to keep miles off my vehicles and love it too, feels very solid and quality inside compared to the Stinger.

The forum members and the support for the Stinger has actually been the best thing about the ownership. I will be looking into a G90 soon into the future as I have nothing against the Hyundai/Kia brand, even the dealership I bought from was awesome, so was Hyundai when I got my 1st Genesis sedan. Might even look at the G70 as my needs for a larger interior shrink.
Again these are just my views as an enthusiast that has owned too many cars to count over the last 20+ years. I feel savagegeese's review is most likely the most accurate of this car. I am too critical and I know this.
So, I got $36k for the GT2 on trade not bad for what I paid for it, but not great if compared to MSRP sticker. Credit score went up in the last month, but so did interest rates by a half point. Gonna miss the $240mn payment.
Hope even after being critical of a beautiful car, and not owning it anymore I am still welcome here, I guess we will see.

You got complaints ,are particular about cars and seem insatiable ...... your comparisons for a new released product to established models is a bit unfair imho..... evidently the 19 stinger has addressed quite a few quibbles but since you don't have one , that can't happen......

It's great actually to get some feedback as there are no perfect machines.....but my issue is try and stick with cars in price range.....like ford fusion or TLX .....which both pale in complete comparison.....even the 4 series grand coupe or the a5 at their price are comparable but still fall short for what you get.....

You truly have knowledge of the auto world .....dealings and quality but just don't come off so hard on the stinger ; in this forum.......not a great look

I know, I sound a bit pretentious, but I'm really not. It's hard to smooth things out via messages. I would pick the Stinger in a heart beat over a Ford. The Chevy Impala SS (holden) would be hard to choose, same with Dodge Charger Scat Pack, and even Mazda 6. I would pick it in a moment over a honda accord, maybe not the Avalon, dont know haven't been in one. But the others are all in the price point or cheaper, and yes they all have flaws. As I said, I love the brand and the car, maybe just not the 18 is what it comes down to. I will be buying another in the future I'm sure. Just gonna give the model a few years. Thank you for not wanting to kill me, sincerely.

Like I said....guys with tons more experience than I, I respect for what they've seen.....I'm a golfer and know more than 99% of golfers and love sharing info and insight.....so I get having that kind of knowledge.....I'm waiting to see if the 20 model will get the k900 dash cluster including the blindspot camera embedded....wish I had the funds and credit to try more of the cars I like.....champagne taste on NATTY ice budget.....lol.....

The beauty is warranty, versatility and looks are more than enough at this price point despite the flaws.....the 19's addition of 360 camera, wireless charging and heated rear seats took it 2 notches and solidified my conviction of purchase
