About that Kia badge...

Thanks @moinmoin--if any of us has the money to plunk a nice little chunk of jewelry on our car (I certainly don't!), here's the guy who can do it:
Thanks @eljay, after researching the trademark a bit, it's either the KIA badge or the jewellery, although one could stylize the Hanja characters.....
The E and K don't cut it, the former represents the brand in Korea only, and the latter is a screen for owners who are ashamed of driving a KIA.
KIA is essentially phonetic Korean, and that's good with me. My wife's Japanese. I am used to this stuff.

What about something derived out of this? A Stinger should be intimidating. There's already a Stingray. There's already a Scorpion. A Wasp and Bee is too easily swatted. Any other ideas?

First of all: on my screen I see only the question and the link to the graphic. The rest of your comment shows when preparing to reply, and

Secondly, you virtually took the words out of my mouth. :)

I see where are you coming from....weapons? Still thinking, it's a tough one.

Hey. Can you send me a screenshot of what you're seeing? You should be able to see the graphic in the post. I want to make sure I have that set correctly...

I see it. :)

Can't recreate now....that's why I said MY screen, before someone else asks "What's he talking about?" LOL
Anyway, what I saw were your first 7 words:
What about something derived out of this?
and right underneath the little box indicating an attachment. A Stinger should be etc. was completely obscured.
Clicking on the box opened another window with the graphic and when I clicked on the "Reply" button in "your" message, the whole message became visible in the response field.
Most of the words I had already formulated in my head were there....kind of funny.:)

But I had my experience with earth-borrowing wasps that located in a flower bed I was in the process to move: I have never seen an insect attacking thaaat fast. Stung right next to my eye, which of course closed up completely.
Intimidating, you bet! It's not always the size, sometimes the technique (big grin). So there - all my fault :)

That's exactly what I want as well. I just haven't seen them available yet. Perhaps I'll need to make them. I will if enough people prefer them over the "E" badge - like you and I. Maybe we could do a group buy or something as that would pay for the initial cost of design/first batch.

And thank you for considering supporting the site. I really do appreciate that. At one point or another I'll set something up for support but in the meantime I'm really happy that people are signing up and making this a great hangout for Stinger owners and enthusiasts. :)

These guys have the blue type and I'm sure if I wanted to work that hard ebay probably does as well....would rather support this site though if possible.

Let me know when you have the donations page up.

I don't know if it's the exact same type or not, but the K badge with black plastic and blue background I got years ago for my Optima eventually just turned entirely black as the sun eventually destroyed all color in the ink. I'm sure my now they've probably put UV coating or something on it but watch out for cheap ones.

When I was a member of a BMW forum one of the Mods made up a window cling that members could buy to raise operational funds to keep the forum solvent . I'm pretty sure it was well received and several members purchased them and placed them on their rear windows , maybe something like this would work here ?

Personally I think Kia has sufficient risk in the launch of this car that developing a cartoon/bug style "mnemonic" emblem would give further rise for the critics and haters to jump on the "Anti Stinger" band wagon .I even cringe when I see the Hamsters !!! I'm a Kia convert after 9 BMWs and want this car and their brand to rise above the past perceptions ( I bought a Sorento SX and Soul SX 2 years ago and have thoroughly happy to drive and own both ) Go Kia !!

I'm with you on wanting to see Kia shed their old image even further than it's already been shed. Even skeptical people should be left no choice but to agree that Kia can make pretty much whatever automobile they want. As for stickers, that's a good idea. I think I'll start a discussion on what sticker might be one people would like to put on their car. Once we have a good design then I can start pricing 'em out. :) Thank you for that suggestion...

It was the 5 Series forum for the E60 , not a great design but for the guys that wanted to be on the "team" ...................

Thats the Loden version I mentioned earlier , they actually used to have one with the identical font that Kia uses , but I believe they got into legal issues that made them discontinue it , if you search you'll find it somewhere , I think they were selling it for the Pro Ceed GT

I talked to my friend that does blown glass. He said it would be easy enough to make me something cool.
Something like this maybe..SmartSelectImage_2017-10-02-20-47-35.webp SmartSelectImage_2017-10-02-20-44-48.webp

Out of the East …

Let me put a different spin on the matter of an emblem for the Stinger:

I really liked @eljay ‘s idea, putting a piece of “jewellery” on the car, floated in another thread. While beautiful, it may be hard to accomplish, artistically & price wise.

I am not a fan of the “E” because of it’s clunky design (IMO), nor the “K” that doesn’t signify anything, nor is it particularly artistic.

Wikipedia, among other things, makes the following statement:

Etymology

According to Kia Motors, the name "Kia" derives from the Sino-Korean characters ki (起, "to come out") and a (亞, which stands for (East) Asia), it is roughly translated as "to come out of the east."

and shows this box on thei page:

KIA translated then means "Out of the East (Asia)" and the first two characters of the Hanja script repeat that in the above box.
The remaining characters according to Google mean “Automobile”.

As so many people are getting inked with Chinese characters these days, what would be wrong putting Korean characters on a badge that spell Ki A?

What do you say?
Absolutely f***** inspired

I vote for this as well. Not a huge fan of the 'E' as it would require explaining to people. The K is easy, 'Its the Korean logo for Kia'
