5 things I hate about my Stinger GT

My volume has likely never been over 6 bars - the other 94 or however many have never been used. Usually I am on 2 or maybe 3 if the USB original volume was a little low. The HUGE discovery on mine was:

The volume rocker on the steering wheel ONLY affects the volume of the entertainment source.

The volume knob on the dash changes the volume on whatever source is being used at that moment -

The entertainment source when it is the source
The phone volume only during a call
The navigation guidance only while she is speaking an instruction
The car's whining about something, i.e., hands not on wheel, attention level . . . . . .

I had a lot of trouble with the hands free phone until I learned this.

This is not a Kia thing. My Rogue acted in the same fashion with volume.

1 - manual transmission, I would be willing to pay for it as an option.
2 - All bronzish chrome exterior and all piano black interior should be carbon fiber IMHO.
3 - Infotainment is buggy as hell, screen goes dark randomly, various other oddities. Carplay should be wireless, defeats the use of having a charging space if it still has to be plugged in.
4 - The lower part of the center council (the part your knee can come into contact with) should be soft touch or padded leather like the interior door panel.
5 - Drive mode reset once the car is off, it should retain the mode regardless of setting. I drive in sport 99.9% of the time. Same goes for the start/stop button.
6 - I'm throwing an extra in, Auto hold for the brakes would be great if it engaged the parking brake. I'm a bit paranoid about the whole brake pad deposit issue so I just engage the parking brake anytime I come to a full stop.

Off topic, but was there ever an "about" in the title of this thread?

Me too, I guess, until today! ;) My mind has mind of it’s own is not just a fun Phish cover!

I always added "on" in my head

Howdy and welcome. Number 3.: sounds like your stereo needs some kind of "reflash"; nobody has ever said that "Level 1" is too loud; or that turning up the volume isn't linear. What has been noted is that different vehicles apparently have different gradations between the levels; and of course a common refrain is that different sources produce different linear gradations between levels. For instance, in my car the FM volume is blasting at 10. I almost never listen to it any higher than 5. And each level below 5 cuts about a fifth of the volume, as you would expect; and it's twice as loud at 10; the other source I use is USB stick and .mp3 files. Depending on the original source of the file, I will turn the volume to anywhere from 8 to 30. Obviously, the difference in levels at 30 is miniscule compared to 10 or especially 5.
I am old and went to many rock concerts when younger. So, my wife and kids says I am losing my hearing. But, my kids do not allow me to put the volume over 4 in my Stinger. They complain 4 is too loud. Strangest thing. To me, the issue is minor. I don't hate it or anything. Just plain bizarre.

The fact that the car kicks ass to drive makes up for the little things, though. One thing I love about the Stinger is the RWD. I thought I was compromising having RWD, but now I am so glad I have it. Slip differential is cool.

1. Auto shut down. I hate having to remember the button.
2. Mirrors tilt down in reverse. Have not found a menu setting.
3. Blind spot warning lights in mirrors too small. My Subaru had big bright lights.
4. Remember drive mode. I use custom set for sport power, comfort suspension and steering.
5. Sport mode steering too fast or twitchy.

I plan to address this vis the ISG/Auto Hold memory module. But I agree, I hate having to remember to do this each time I get in the car.
2. Mirrors tilt down in reverse. Have not found a menu setting.
No menu setting. The side view mirror switch needs to be selected to either Left or Right, not in the middle.

To be perfectly clear: the middle setting of the mirror switch will keep the mirrors up in reverse; selecting either "L" or "R" will tilt the mirrors down in reverse.

You hate this feature??? I wish I had this in my gt. After owning a 96 Lincoln and our Jeep Grand Cherokee that has this I was shocked that my 2020 gt does not have this. It makes backing up so much easier, especially cuz I have my seat lower and with the way the side mirrors are positioned on the door and not the window frame it's hard as hell to see.

Initially, I test drove a gt1, which had this feature. When I test drove my awd gt that I ended up buying, I didn't back the car up at all during the test drive and just assumed it had it, until I tried to reverse into my long driveway. Thought it was a feature that was just turned off or something, until I came on here and somebody mentioned that the gt does not have this feature. Very disappointing. I wonder can you swap in side mirrors from a gt1/gt2 or if it's something that programmed into the car.

Maybe I have the mirrors set lower than most folk. When they cycle down I don't see squat above the rear wheels. I've always relied on mirrors and shoulder checks are not easy for old backs and necks. Camera is ok if its clean.
I'll see if switch position helps but I think they quit going inwards if not in the middle position.

To be clear:
The mirror switch for "Out", "Auto", "In" needs to be in the center "Auto" position
- AND -
The mirror adjustment switch that selects "Left", "Off", "Right", needs to be in either the "Left" or "Right" position

for the mirrors to drop down when in reverse.

Thank you Legendsk !

I would never have figured that out.

Even with the remote start - You can't lock it with the fob while it is running. Have to turn off the engine, get out, lock it and then start it with the fob. Then you have 15 minutes max before it shuts off on its own. It's okay for a quick trip into a convenience store, but I can't take the dog along when I go grocery shopping and may take 30 - 45 minutes because of the heat. He is a big scary looking dog, I might be able to just get out and leave it unlocked and running, anyone seeing him would have to be crazy to try to get in and steal the car.
Very much this AND you can't just get in with the car running from a remote start - the car shuts down when you open the doors. Really makes you look silly walking up to your cool car with a moderately loud cold start and idle exhaust note ready and running just to have the car womp womp shut down as you slide into it's fancy lit interior.

On the stop start thing, on the GT2 with auto start/stop on, will re-start the engine if you hit the Park button. So if you intend to actually you know PARK the car it's pretty silly because you pull up and stop the car in your parking space and the engine automatically shuts down when you stop moving, then you press P, the engine starts up again. Naturally you immediately turn the car off after shifting into P, so the engine immediate shuts down again after running for a split second.

Kia wanted GT2 drivers to just press the ignition off button when actually Parking the car - works great if you remember. ....but no one except someone who drives the car every day would remember this and the engine just goes bonkers with all the auto stopping and starting right as you like pull up to a restaurant in front of a whole bunch of people looking at your cool car.

Like, since the beginning of automatic transmissions cars actually were designed to not let you turn off the ignition with the car in D so even after 6 months I still forget myself. It's a silly design and people gotta break decades worth of habit to figure things out.

/rant.

I hate (dislike) the driving position. I'm only 5'10" but my head is only one (1) fingers thickness from the ceiling liner and I smack my head on the grab handle if I lean left. Seat is ALL THE WAY DOWN but I don't recline too much.

Can't put the streering wheel where I want, because it blocks the instrument panel and info like blinker, range, etc so my arm is always uncomfortable on the wheel.

Maybe I'm built more like a Tyrannosaurus Rex? I'm coming from a 2016 Mustang Ecoboost, so feeling like I'm part of the car is confidence inspiring (position wise) if that makes sense. I'm only 1,200 miles in so maybe it'll grow on me; the power and comfort certainly has.

I can't visualize how a 6'3" guy (me) has the same headroom as a 5'10" driver (you). And you can't see the blinkers. My seat is all the way down too. I'm close enough to the pedals to keep my thighs from resting on the seat, by reducing the angle of the seat beneath just enough to relieve any pressure. I can rest my wrists straight-armed on top of the steering wheel (play with telescoping steering wheel and the angle of the seatback). The steering wheel is elevated just enough to see the turn signals. Shoulders touch the seatback, and headrest just brushes the back of my head.
