3.3T Turbo Oil Feed Line Recall 2024

Dropped mine off at 7:30 this morning, and they just told me it's going to carry over into tomorrow. But of course earlier today they texted me asking if I wanted $800 worth of other services. Ugh.
Do you remember what services they offered?

Sounds kind of ridiculous!

Yep, they texted a link and I had to approve or decline them. It's a 2019 with 21k.

Fuel system service $190
Climate control service $100
Brake fluid exchange $170
Coolant exchange $150
Cabin filter $60
Balance tires $70

  • Fuel system service $190
    • is this just chemical dumped in the gas tank? Why would it be needed at 21k?
  • Climate control service $100
    • sprayed air freshener?
  • Brake fluid exchange $170
    • overpriced, but reasonable to suggest for a 2019 car
  • Coolant exchange $150
    • this is due at 200,000 KMs per the service manual + nearly all the coolant is replaced during the oil feed pipe recall. Step #4 of the recall procedure is - Loosen the radiator drain plug (C) and drain coolant.
  • Cabin filter $60
    • overpriced, but fair to suggest.
  • Balance tires $70
    • was there a problem or complaint?

Hilarious list, were they on a phishing expedition, phishing your wallet?

Wow. This on a 21k mile car too. It's definitely a fishing expedition.
As mentioned above,
fuel system service is a $10 can of some kind of additive thrown in the gas tank.
Climate control service? That's a new one on me. Dealers never cease to amaze me with their imagination.
Brake fluid, probably not necessary at 21k miles.
Coolant exchange, when doing the recall no less? Pure rip off.
Cabin filter is a 5 minute DIY job.
Balance tires? Why? What is their logic?
I'm surprised they didn't suggest more, like wiper blades or a tranny flush. How about a 4 wheel alignment while we're at it?
These dealers have no morals.

I wouldn't step foot in that scamership.

What's to say they're not pouring back in what came out when doing this..... Unless you pay for a "coolant service"?

Yeah it's crazy. I actually had them do a 4-wheel alignment, and glad I did...lotta red on the before measurements. Has new tires so wanted to start off as good as possible.

When I picked it up they said most of it was because they didn't know the history of the car blah blah blah.

Place was about 30min away, and was recommended over my local dealer. Drive home was fine, so hopefully all set...time will tell.

I was told for over a month that the antenna was on back order. I called around a few dealerships after a month and found a KIA parts guy that said there were five of them in the USA and can be overnighted. Wait What? (Did you know that KIA does not want parts dept to give you parts #) WTH! I called my dealership and spoke to the service manager, I was in the next morning getting it done. After the recall on the Turbo oil tube was completed I was driving and needed to clean my window, no fluid. I went back to the dealership the service tech put windshield washer fluid in it. I drove home guess what? It still didn’t work, someone disconnected the tube for the windshield washer fluid .

Happens fairly regularly during the turbo Oil feed pipe recall, where they disconnect, and fail to reconnect, the washer fluid hose. I have read several stories this far.

Are you saying you went to the dealership for washer fluid not squirting, and they refilled your washer fluid, but they (and you) didn't check to see if worked?

I was in the area and in a hurry and did a quick drive through the service area, service tech cleaned my windshield for me, that’s why I didn’t check it out. What does the washer fluid hose have to do with the turbo oil tube replacement?

Quite literally - NOTHING.

But who knows what shortcuts the technicians have come up with.

Several owners have already shared similar experiences after this recall - re:disconnected washer fluid

I suspect that the hose got snagged and pulled off because of all that engineroom activity. You were getting fluid, it was all draining out through the end of the disconnected hose. Still that's a bad call on the mechanic.

I wouldnt do that. pull the plug, walk away and give it 30 mins. Youll get 95% of the oil, and you will also get an idea if there is sludge at the very bottom of the pan. If you suck it out, itll be guessing game if you got the very lowest part of the pan and further more if you actually got to the bottom of the pan. All in all, its not a good way to drain the vehicle of oil. Quick lube shops do this because its fast, but not efficient.
If the vehicle is on ramps and slightly sloped, will cause the oil to pool in the sump allowing the extractor through the dipstick tube to extract more oil than pulling sump plug.

Sloped nose-high or nose-low?

Nose high, dipstick tube is at the rear of the engine. I used my extractor to remove oil and then drained from plug afterwards as a test and what was left after extraction was minimal, it didnt even cover the bottom of my drain pan. I extract the oil and do a pan drain every 4th change, but I drive almost 200kms a day commuting to work and its almost all highway.

Drive on to the ramps with the rear wheels.. ie reverse on to the ramps.
