• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

2019 Map Update now available online

I just updated, and had no issues. I can see all sorts of new UI changes:
  1. The shape and functions of the buttons on the side of the map have changed.
  2. When playing music, the Lexicon settings (off, audience, on stage) can now be toggled directly from the top of the screen. This is handy as I have to turn this off sometimes when there's no audio (a longstanding bug) and I won't need to dig around in the menu.
  3. I can play the new 'Sounds of Nature' stuff. Cool I guess, but I don't think I'll be doing this more than once.
  4. In the 'Vehicle Settings' section I now have 'Smart Ventilation' and 'Automatic Defog' features. I don't remember seeing these before.
  5. In the main settings screen I can change the UI language between English and Korean. I don't remember having this before.
  6. Changing items in the menu seems to have a subtle animation now, and looks smoother to me.

Downloaded and successfully updated. Extra function buttons and a few bells and whistles added. Real test will be when I approach the intersection where a red light camera was removed over 6 years ago.....is it still "there"?

I just updated mine as well. I think it was stock from 2018 (us version). I am hoping it seems all the new roundabouts that have been put in in our town. Still prefer Google maps, though.

Update done.

Hi chaps, stupid question... are you copying the new update files onto the SD card and then clicking on "update"... or do the new files need to be on a separate USB stick inserted into the USB port? thanks!

Just insert the SD card in to the computer & the MapCare app/installer will do the internet download & file copy to the SD card.

So no need to manually copy anything.

I didn't see the instruction to move the SD card from the car and into the PC, and then let the update app format/copy contents... but now easily done!

Done earlier today after seeing the posts on here about it being available. Seemed to be a lot bigger this time, was a bit slower than usual updating once the SD card was back in the car. Some of the new features are ok. Not sure what colour suits yet. I like being able to change the vehicle icon colour but it’d be nice if instead of a triangle with a circle it gave an option for a little Stinger that could be colour matched to your car.

Yes they never mention it because it’s free.
My wife’s Cerato was serviced a couple of weeks ago & funnily enough on the paperwork at pick up it stated Map Update available $330 we never even asked, LMAO of course it’s available for a lower spec car at that price & that map system is more user friendly than what’s in the Stinger.
Did she get maps included in her purchase? The new updates are for every model, doubt the Stinger version would work in the Cerato, but you could try to download the Cerato version and see if it’s free and just install it yourself rather than having the dealer slug you $330 for it. Worth a look.

No, only the first map updates was free with the Cerato, it is also a different map supplier & doesn’t have an SD card so I believe it can only be updated by the dealer.

That’s a shame they’re not free. There was a heap of different models available on the website so there’s be a way to update without the dealer but not sure how to bypass the payment. It’s based on VIN so they know what you’ve got.

I would even know how they update without an SD card, they must have to plug into it somewher.

I did the update today without any problems. I like the new color schemes and map graphics. Looks more modern and pleasing to the eye.
There is a thing with the new speed indicator in the map. You can enable it in the settings. It shows your GPS speed, which is about 3-4km under the car speedo. I know that the speedo is calibrated that way, but it's still awfully confusing.

I thought that may be the case but haven't been out on the road to test as yet.

My dashcam speed taken from gps was always 3km below what the car said I was doing. I drove to Newcastle today after updating and found with cruise set on a constant speed the car gps flip flopped a lot from 3 to 4 to sometimes 2km below what the cruise was set at. Generally speaking it sits at 3km below. One thing I do like is the night mode for the gps display now. I haven’t been through all the settings yet so still got a bit to look at and play around with
