2019 Kia Stinger

I think it all comes down to money. Better profit margins the way they do it. Google isn't trying to sustain their business from phones. Word is even Samsung is going to start offering more features with the bigger phone than the smaller one. That's exactly what these car manufacturers are doing. It is actually quite annoying though.
But why would I buy a Samsung if the best features are only available on the phone I don't want? Especially when it's available, if not better, on the Google device sized exactly the way I want. I think this method is going to backfire on them...

Doubt it. Google probably sells as many Pixels all year as Samsung sells in pre-orders. They're not even a blip on Samsung's radar. Apple does the same thing with their phones and maximizes their profits and Samsung is just trying to do the same. The majority of people buy the bigger phones so they know they can get away with doing this as most are going to buy the better model anyway. They'll be able to increase their margins on the smaller device which doesn't sell anywhere near as well at the same time and possibly push more people to buy the bigger device as well. Probably won't lose many to the Pixel at all, as people will likely accept this just fine because the other giant in smartphones (Apple) does the same.

As for car manufacturers, it seems they're essentially doing the same thing, to my dismay. Want the best? Get the most expensive model. It would be nice if all the options were available and you could mix and match as much as you wanted as long as you were willing to pay for the options. You spend a great deal of time in vehicles and it would be nice if you could get it exactly how you wanted it.

Google is pretty much taking the lead in giving people what they want in both devices. I think there's another brand out there that does the same but they're not as popular as the Pixel line. If Google's new Pixel phones do well enough, and other brands follow their lead with offering all the top specs in smaller devices - we just may see Apple and Samsung follow suit. Only time will tell.

For me personally, I'd have paid the exact same amount for the smaller phone. I'm not buying the small phone to save money. I'm buying it because I simply don't want the larger phone anymore. Brands like Apple and Samsung can make just as much money offering the same specs in a smaller model with a high price tag. I think most people are paying more for the better features as opposed to the larger screen. I could be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time. But agreeing to disagree is -awesome-. :)

As for cars, yeah, it's typically the most expensive model - maybe flagship - that has the latest in technology and best features. Nothing abnormal there. But giving high tech features to the same model with the larger engine is just stupid. I think BMW is pretty good at offering features for any model - as long as you pay for them. That makes sense. At least OFFER for people to hand you their money...

Yeah, some of these things are just opinion, and we can just agree to disagree on those. However, up until now Samsung did offer the same features in both phones and the larger phone greatly outsold the little phone. So you can't really use the feature argument, because the market has already shown that they want the bigger screens. That's why phones have gradually gotten bigger. Market research has shown that people want big screens. I can understand people who want a smaller phone with the same features, but even with Google, I think I remember seeing somewhere that the XL version of their phone outsells the regular version. Everything points to the market wanting bigger screens so I think in this case you're just wrong. Now, I will concede that the people who want a smaller phone want all the same features. That's definitely true. No one wants to get shortchanged because they got a smaller phone. However, if no one offers the smaller phone with the exact same features, then it's not really an option. I don't think you're going to see Apple and Samsung follow suit, unfortunately. Selling phones is a hobby for Google, although they seem to be getting more serious. Apple and Samsung seem to be much more serious about it, and they're trying to earn as much as possible.

I think with vehicles, we have a confounding factor, which is fuel economy. If the larger and smaller engine vehicles had the same fuel economy then I would probably always go for the more powerful one. Filling up the tank is an ongoing expense though which influences what I, and likely many more consumers, pick as far as the engine goes.

One thing I didn't think of when opting for a smaller phone this time around - first in a long time - is the tiny little on-screen keyboard that goes along with it. Yeah... Not really loving that. But maybe I'll get used to it. Still, the rest of the device is really great. And I got the best camera in the business for a pretty darn good price! You're right, most people do seem to like the larger screens. But how big can they go? Some of these phones are annoying large and heavy - especially when suited with the armor needed to keep them from shattering upon fall...

Yes, I'd definitely go for the more powerful engine given the option if fuel economy was the same or even close...

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
almost a hi jack !!

Yeah, that's understandable with the whole smaller screen. So as far as cars go, are you waiting for the 2019 Stinger? Which engine you getting?

I tried to put a little bit of stuff about cars in each one lol.

I'm waiting for 2019 but not because of the missing features. I've never had a surround view camera or wireless charging so I could not care less about those things. I rarely have people in my back seats to begin with but I also live in South Florida. Heated rear seats? "heh". The other stuff isn't even on my radar at all...

My reasoning for waiting is I'm hardly a year out since purchasing my 2016 Honda Accord Touring. I'm trying to be more reasonable concerning large purchases (like cars) so I really need to wait it out. I have a bad habit of doing crazy things like trading in leases after a few months and/or trading-in far too upside-down than I should. So I'm basically waiting for the 2 year mark to trade-in my Accord.

I'm almost certainly going for the twin turbo V6. I want the power and I also want the aggressive design. If the GT design comes with the 2.0T - I'll consider it as I'm rarely alone anyway - and I hate scaring my wife with my heavy foot. :p

The problem with large phones is they are less ergonomic, as you cannot hold the phone with one hand and reach across the full screen with your thumb. This is a basic UX principle - design things in a way that optimizes usability.

Also, large phones are less pocketable. Past a certain point, you can hardly fit one into a pocket on tighter-fitting pants.

It might be because I am 40 years old, but to me that sounds like a problem with you pants.. haha

Keeping it on-topic: Do the large phones fit in the wireless charging dash "pocket" that RoW Stingers got?

That's a pretty good reason. If they do add some of the features back then you'll also benefit from the wait too I guess.

I hate tight fitting pants, and I have pretty big hands so the bigger phone still works out well for me.

I think I read somewhere that larger phones might not fit in that pocket so it is possible that them adding in wireless charging wouldn't help me anyway.
