I am new to the forum and have scoured through posts about lease buyout and I’d like those of you who have done so for advice. Currently in My area Kia is offering $9900 rebates on a 24 month lease. I plan to purchase but could not get anywhere near that price. The car I’ve looked at is a GT2 AWD with an MSRP of $54,060. The salesman and I worked out a deal via text for $40,500 before fees and tax. I have the following questions.
1. Does anybody think I should push for a lower price and specific strategies that worked for you?
2. I have about $23,000 I was looking to put down. Should I put this amount down or put down as little as possible and proceed with the buyout as soon as possible and how they would work with putting down cash and financing part of the purchase
3. Realistically with the buyout and about $2600 in sales tax what should be my all in costs?
4. I know it sounds silly but the only thing I don’t like about the car is it has 18 inch wheels with all seasons. Can the car be reflashed to except the 19 inch wheel top speed? I think I may buy Genesis 5 spoke wheels as summer wheels/tires and keep the 18s for winter

Welcome to the forums!

Unfortunately, being in Australia, I can't give any advice on the deal you're being offered, or the finance terms. I'd suggest reading a few other threads (the "How much did you pay for your Stinger" thread in particular). It's tough to tell at times, because even within the US, there appear to be different deals available based on different states.

Thank you, I’m in a good position. I don’t need the car right now so I’m pondering if I should wait for next month’s incentives or jump on a deal at the end of this month.

I’ve also taken your suggestion and looked at other threads. It looks like if I can get the car with fees and tax for 42-43k then I’m getting a good deal

Wow, not a single response this isn’t good...
You got responses when you asked the same "is this a good price" on the other thread(s). So I passed on this one. But you're asking again on your own thread. So I'll offer what I can (I saw the $40,500 figure, again, and didn't bother to read your whole OP at that time; don't remember why; probably saw it when I was tired or out of time):

If you've already dickered to get the price down to $40,500, whey do you think that further pressure from you is going to work?

Use the $23K to pay off the loan, or make the loan smaller to do the buyout with. Don't waste it on reducing the final price of the car. The buyout will happen regardless, but if your interest on a loan totals anywhere near the money you'll be saving by doing the buyout, then the buyout is largely a waste of time and effort. Car sales love leases, they dislike cash up front (the world has changed). So all the "wizardry" that you pull off to save money should be between you and say a credit union; the usual go-to for car loans; they have the most competitive rates. The dealer doesn't need to know anything about your plans to do a buyout; and if fact it might produce a conflict of interests. Keep it to yourself, and between you and Kia (HCA Exchange, Inc. is who you'll be writing the buyout cheque to).

A $300 lease buyout fee, plus $2,600 means OTD $42,900, which is darned good for a MY19 GT2; we said this already.

Why aren't you buying a 19" Michelin tired car if that's what you want? That is the standard. AWD with 19" has the 167 MPH limiter. Why mess around with rims and tires that you don't want and will need to replace; and then have to look for a tune to raise your limiter to 167? (I run on my OE 19" rims for winter.)

I guess I should’ve started with my own post. I figured by starting a new thread I’d get more feedback. Thank you again for the advice. I do appreciate it and don’t mean to come off condescending. This forum has been a wealth of information.

The salesman actually suggested for me to buy out the lease because he said he wouldn’t be able to get the purchase price that low.

As far as the wheels are concerned, in my region nearly all of the AWD stingers I have found only have the 18s. In reflection I don’t really care anymore I doubt my car would ever see 130mph anyway.

If I buy out the lease am I considered the original owner? In other words if I take out a loan on a lease buyout is it still considered a new car? I think most credit unions base rates on if the car is new or used.

I’m going to try to wait for the end of the month to see if they can lower the price more or maybe add something.

You are the original owner. Kia holds the title until you buyout, then they sign and send the title to you. Your loan would be with the credit union but I don't know if that changes when you get the title or not. I've never done that. This is the only new car I've ever purchased; and I've always paid cash for the used cars I've had.

The incentives in July dried up. Wait a month or two. The incentives will come back.

I think the $9900 lease incentive is still active. I’m actually going to run some numbers today with a sales person. I may consider holding out but it’s really close by and all the others within a 100 mile radius are black or ceramic gray. The ideal car for me is 6 hours away and the next closest thing is 15 minutes away.... I really wish this one had the 19s with summer tires. I really hate all seasons

I was speaking more of the purchase incentives. Those dried up compared to June. The leases only work if you have the cash to immediately turn around and buy the car out.

However, if you don’t buy it out then the high money factor/interest will eat up all of the difference in discounts.

Last month you could combine the discounts with the zero percent financing for 66 months. There were GT2 cars selling for under $40k. Now everything is $1k-$2k above $40k.

The discounts will come back though. Just wait till the 2020 models hit the lots. Dealers will have to let them go then. There are a lot of Stingers on lots right now.

My local dealer had 16 on the lot last week and now they have 5 GT2 cars and 4 of them are an identical spec. Those cars aren’t going anywhere for awhile.

Thanks for the heads up. I was thinking of leasing and immediately doing a buyout. I figured I could take a loan from a local credit union ( I have good credit and could probably get 2.9%). I also have about 24k to put down so I’d only be financing about 20k

You are conflicted. :D:whistle: Don't get the 18s or you'll regret it at some level for the life of the car: even if you rectify it by reflashing the limiter to 167 MPH, and get UHP tires (on 19s or 18s, it doesn't matter, as long as they are "Y" like the Michelin summer tires are), you'll be annoyed that you had to go to the expense and bother. So, get what you really want first even if it takes longer.

Wow; I have no idea how people are getting the deals described above on GT2s! I've been to 3 different dealers here in SE Michigan and the best I can do on a GT2 is around $46K (without Tax/Title/License) for a purchase which includes the $2750 incentive for using KMF & the $2000 loyalty bonus (my wife has a 2018 Sorento). The one caveat is that none of the dealers in my area have a car in the colors I want w/o the 18" AS tire option, so they are having to work deals with out of state dealers tp get the car. What am I missing here?
Enjoy,

Thank you for pointing out my view on the wheels. However, I plan on having a second set of wheels either way. I daily drove a Mustang for years with two sets of wheels. One with Summer tires and the other set with Winter tires. At some point I’d like to do the same with a Stinger.

The price I got quoted was with a lease buyout. Kia is currently offering $9900 rebates on a 24 month lease. Many on the forum have taken advantage of lease rebates and immediately bought out the lease. I would not get the price I was offered in a straight purchase.

Like you I’m having a hard time finding a GT2 awd with the 19 inch wheels too. A dealer literally has the color I want only 4 miles away the next closest one is 6 hours away... I may settle for the all seasons because I don’t think I have the time to dedicate to getting a long distance car

The dealers around here are willing to work to bring the car I want in, but I suspect they aren't willing to give me any sort of "dealer-based" price brake since the car isn't in their inventory. I still want the summer tires though...
Enjoy,

@Carguy55 It looks like you may have to buy from out of the area and just buy the wheels/tires you want and sell the ones you take off.

Schaumburg Kia is offering GT2 AWD at 48k before the $9,900 lease rebate. Then buyout with a credit union loan or cash ASAP.

I have a predicament, a dealer about two hours away (out of state) offered me an AWD GT2 micro blue for $39,000 before tax and fees with summer wheels/tires but I would have to buy the car tomorrow and I am juggling two young kids at home and wife going in for surgery. I feel the local dealer could probably match the deal or hope for the best and wait for next month. I doubt the incentives will get worse but who knows

@SVT2003 The incentives will not get worse next month. But the end of month deal from the out of state dealer will probably vanish. If they have not sold this time next month it will be even better.
