2018 Stinger Recall - Wire Harness May Be Damaged By Fender

Bump!
got my recall wire harness letter.....should I reinstall the oem air filter or take my chances with the cai installed?? In other words , if they see the cold air intake , can they void the warranty?

Its easier to see if you remove the ecu.
Lol. Of course. But the assertion is that you can just shine a flashlight in there and see if the harness is touching the fender "skirt"(?). I don't even want to detach the "engine side cover", or the "hood seal", or "the two harness protector retaining nuts", or the "one (1) ECU bracket mounting bolt and two (2) bracket mounting nuts", much less the ECU! Heh! I just want to shine a flashlight like others have said that they have done. "Oh! Lookee there, my wiring harness has lots of clearance. No prob!"

I just ordered my own rubber gromit for $6 shipped. Thats the price of gas to the dealer.

I'm thinking you're not to keen of a dealer peeking under the hood anytime soon.......me neither, btw.

some cars may need a plate according to my letter Maybe the plate may just be a grommet not sure

The only problem I see with this approach - which would be mine as well - is that the vehicle is not going to be entered in the "master database" as having been repaired.

Thats the part number for the grommit.

You'll be fine. Your intakes will not "void" the warranty.

Only thing the dealer could in the future is deny a warranty claim specifically with something having to do with the engine (in this specific case) and then they'd have to prove that your intakes caused the problem at hand.

Took my car in today and they did the fix. Not really sure what all they did but it didn’t take long. Just made sure to remove my JB4 before going in!

Got my notice in mail today.

I spoke to a guy who does a lot of work for the KIA dealer in town, he said the same thing basically making a appointment hopefully for Monday.

Just got my notice too. Judging from what I see here it’s not that big of a deal. Thankfully.

It shouldn't be that big of a deal to install the grommet, but that seems to be an overly-complicated procedure. Lots of stuff to remove and disconnect just to install a grommet in a hole that fairly accessible. I would think that they would make a special tool to reach into that space and pop in the grommet - sort of like a laproscopic surgery. Fortunately, my harness does not appear to be touching the panel as shown in step 7, and the wrapping on the wire bundle looks to be intact, after 10 months and 5000 miles.

I think the issue is that there is too much liability in trusting the inspection to be performed thoroughly without removing the ECU, not so much the difficulty of installing the grommet. One screw up by an inept or lazy mechanic and a house burns down, the damages (both financial and image) would be huge.

does anyone know where the grommet is located....what the process is? do they put the car in the lift, could i put the grommet myself?

so its located on the passenger side of the car? not the driver side?
