If this is in the wrong place please move it.

I just purchased a used Stinger. 53,000 miles.
Problem: when driving the lower lumbar bolsters engage fully into your back on both front seats and the headlight control is non-functional. Then the heads-up display dims out to where you can not see it during the day.

The service department did not believe me until they witnessed it. They now have tech’s from KIA involved because they can not figure it out.

They gave me a loaner vehicle ( man I miss my Stinger ). When I left the dealership I took my Escort detector with me because I didn’t want to leave it in the car.

Update: they called today and asked for the detector back because the car is not reproducing the issue. They ( KIA tech’s and dealership tech ) are thinking it’s the detector causing the problem...

Anyone here have the seat/headlight issue?
Thoughts on detector causing the issue?

I have a few strange electronic issues too but not that one. Unfortunately as much as I love my Kia its not without some QA issues. My passenger seatbelt alarm will randomly start dinging while driving long after it should have if someone opened the the passenger door. Like 30 minutes into a drive it will start and will not stop unit I buckle the seat. My infotainment system will crash if I try to connect to any HD radio stations, so i just dont use that.

Where is the Escort wired into? That could certainly create an issue if tapped into a circuit that is monitored by the computer.

While it's not likely, they do need the vehicle at the dealership in the same status as when the issues are occurring.

Its just in the 12v plug in.

Update: went back to the dealership today. They and KIA were convinced it was the detector. They stated that they put at least 30 miles on the car trying to recreate the problem.

I told them I would take the car back and not use the detector. I said if it happens again I’ll just head out to the dealership without and appointment. They said that was fine and they’d leave the ticket open.

5 min out from the dealership it happened again with no detector. I headed back and they witnessed it. but now we’ve found out that the rear windows won’t roll down. Trunk won’t open from inside the car. Bright lights won’t work and door locks won’t work while it’s doing this.

Service manager said I could keep it over the weekend and bring it back Monday.

I’m only posting all of this incase it has happened to someone else or if it happens to someone else. I’ll keep updating the thread until final resolution. Thank you for the replies to this point. Hopefully it’s an isolated incident.

I wonder if one of the grounds is bad or not connected, that's often a source of odd electronic issues. Not sure how many control modules are in these cars but could also be a bad BCM. They're the techs though so hopefully they figure it out. Lets us know what they find.

I find that when I'm wearing my sunglasses I have a hard time seeing the heads-up display, but when I lift them off my face I can see it no problem.
When I'm driving at night I have no issue whatsoever.

Polarized sunglasses will make the HUD hard to see - I switched back to an older pair I had... and I'm on the hunt for a new pair of non-polarized

Update: there were 3 wires routed in front of the mechanism that moves the lumbar support. They had all been slightly striped over time Which caused a short when they made contact with each other. Caused the lumbar to engage forward and cause all the electrical problems. They repaired the harness and rerouted the wires. Hopefully that’s the end of it.
