Interesting Discoveries Thread (Good or Bad)

Hmm, I wonder if that's a setting because ours just screams at us if we try to lock it with any key in the car. The wife left her purse in the trunk (with key) and I had my key in my pocket, when I went to lock it, it just made a high pitched long sound and wouldn't allow us to lock it.
It's interesting, because earlier at the start of the day her backpack with the second key in it was in the trunk, and I shut it and the warning sound (not sure what to call it) went for almost half a minute and then stopped. The doors had all unlocked. Maybe we broke something! :P Anyway, by the end of the day, with the second key now sitting in the backpack on the passenger seat, the locks behaved as described in my recent post.

I agree the light bending is great but what is up with that notch? It is very noticeable when you are driving through a heavy fog. Very pronounced and distracting.

I'm almost positive the notch is to avoid blinding oncoming traffic, take note that when you're on a straight road the notch is perfectly centred on oncoming traffic lane. That's the only logical reason I could think of.

That's a neat theory and I'll buy it. How considerate of Kia!

Back in the first days of keyless start, I got rental with it. The first thing I did when picking up a rental is stop at the local home depot and cut the wire the use to keep all the keys and fobs and the huge plastic tag together, so I can just put one key and remote in my pocket. I also kept one of those split rings in my bag in case I needed one. The rest of the crap went into my bag until it was time to return the vehicle. I used to travel a lot, btw, sometimes flying to two or more different cities a week.

One night I'd just done that, and needed to go into a different store, so after putting the remaining junk in my bag, which was in the trunk, I tried to close it, and it popped open. I did that over and over, thinking "great, going to have to go back to the rental company" until I realized it had worked when I first put the bag in. So I pulled it out, and it closed fine. Put it back in, wouldn't close. VERY CLEVER!!!

So I tried to put the spared in the glove box. Nope, couldn't lock it!!!

So I put the second remote/fob in my other pocket, locked the car, and walked away laughing..

Couple negative things I noticed about the factory wipers. The bottom of the drivers side wiper vibrates when in use which shouldnt happen with a factory wiper. You cant flip the wipers up like some people do to keep them from freezing against the windsheild because when you try to lift them they contact the edge of the hood.

If you look in the manual there is a wiper park procedure to follow so you dont damage the hood. There is also a YouTube video i posted showing how to do it. Be wary when you get someone else to wash your car and when you get it serviced as there are alot of people who dont know the trick. You have to stick a note on the steering wheel before you leave the car for work to be done on it just in case.

Were you trying to lock it with the handle button? My Stinger and the wife's Sedona both will scream if you press the handle button with the a fob in the car, but if you lock it with the button on the other fob (while far enough away that it doesn't think it's in the car), it will lock the door.

I also think it'll prevent you from using the door button to unlock with the fob that's already in the car (you need to bring the second one back out), but that could just be my wife being crazy.

Yep. That's how it happened. Walking away from the car (with the second key inside), maybe twenty feet away, hit the lock button on the outside fob and the doors lock.

Today I got in my car and started driving noticed side view mirrors hadnt opened up. Got home and locked and unlocked the car a few times mirrors aren't moving at all. Wouldnt ne much of a bother but they are turned in. Anyone else experience this?

Did you accidently hit the folding mirror switch? The switch on your drivers door allows you to either have the mirrors fold and unfold when you lock and unlock the car or stay permanently folded.

That was it, learn something new every day
Thanks again!

Interesting thing to me, that I learned. The cruise control will use the brakes to slow you down on a hill.
First car I've had that does this. Got me thinking about how they have the brakes tied into everything else now. I used to think brake system was relatively independent of rest of the systems. Obviously some integration for anti-lock. But anti-lock would normally release the brakes to prevent sliding. (at least that is the way I understand it) First time I've noticed a system applying brake pressure.

Also, need to be careful when approaching a bike while in cruise. It will hit the breaks hard to get to bike speed. Also used with the emergency breaking system. These are not your grandfather's cars.

Man! I am glad I don't have any of that crap going on with my GT1!

I guess I'll carry around a few chemical hand warmers to thaw up the fuel door :)

I'm going to put a thin section of weather strip (adhesion on one side ) right on the inside of the fuel door. If it can't get in, in the first place it can't freeze it shut.

I agree with you, only thing I would like in an update is a seat cooler selection like the seat heater. The monthly report seems to work now, the one thing that bugs me is, why does the hazard lights have to flash.

How did you get the monthly reports working? Mine still shows nothing.

I couldn’t tell you, it showed up in my email and when I checked the app it was there. Maybe switch your monthly update date for tomorrow and see if maybe they a network update. Couple others have said it started working for them also.

i just noticed something the other day when i got to sit in the mrs stinger. the fuel icon shows an arrow pointing to which side of the car the filler neck is, but the fuel gauge shows it pointing in the opposite direction. has anyone else noticed this?
Yes. I pulled up on the wrong side to fill up the first time after looking at the top icon, and then realised the other fuel icon pointed the opposite way. I looked like an idiot reversing back to go to a pump on the other side. Lol.
