So I am dropping my Stinger off for Repaint...

I don't agree, ... That's how I looked at it......

Absolutely agree with your point of view. If the color combo I want had been available at the time it came out, I would have bought anyway, and then been a bit disappointed at the stuff I hadn't gotten.. I've even come close to buying a not-my-first-choice combo, but the 360º cam is a must-have, for a couple of reasons I've discussed elsewhere.

It is absolutely fabulous value. I'm fortunate price is not a factor, but I'd still rather buy the Kia - and have my GF comment on how much nicer it is than her Mercedes!! lol..

How far off is my Mattlock degree?

Sounds spot-on to me..

If I were a blue owner with craters around my car, I wouldn't be stressing too much, it'll get taken care of sooner or later..

Maybe someone with a legal degree can chime in. In my many years of watching Mattlock I think what Kia is doing with taking care of yellow cars; is called a precedent. If you have the same car with a different color exhibiting the same failure. I’m thinking Kia will either take care of said car or answer to law suits.

That's the argument I made in the other thread some pages back. Or rather, I think that's what Kia should be doing, but isn't yet. They've confirmed my car has the same problem (if not worse on mine specifically, though haven't said if the cause is the same), and that's kinda been it. I'm fighting for the same options the others have gotten. If my non-Yellow car is showing the same problems and they agree, why shouldn't I have the same options. The answer I got was, "Kia is doing this as an official campaign for Yellow only". If I want anything beyond a repaint (and even a repaint was hard to get to), it's gonna be some other hugely involved process. Not cut & dry like Yellow owners.

Here's the post, it's also a few others down that page.

I think it’s worth the money to show your evidence to a lawyer and ask him/her to write a letter to Kia.
That will get their attention. Color doesn’t matter. It’s obviously a production problem. The chip on my hood was obviously done in either prep or manufacturing. The rest of my paint is still sticking to the car. If things change I’ll consider my options too.

Update on my car: I have been working with KMA about the on-going (and newly discovered) paint issues. I flat out asked them for the same deal the Sunset Yellow Stingers are getting. I have been having paint issue from early on, and have been without my car for more the 2 weeks at a time due to the issues (not counting additional days for the hatch rattle). Nevermind the paint job that was done, and how it was done.

My rep sent me a bunch of forms to fill out, and I had to scan in a bunch of documents to send to them (lease, registration etc.). I also wrote a very nice open letter and included it with the paperwork I sent explaining more about me, my passion for KIA (7 cars now and counting) and the issues I have been having.

I am now in a holding pattern waiting to hear back. I am really hopful that they see what a loyal customer I have been and that they will approve my request. Time will tell.

Good luck! You a pilot by chance ?

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
A fair request, I think.

I discovered a body shop nearby, off the beaten path - I tend to explore back roads and short cuts, especially when I'm out on a motorcycle. The street-facing parking has cars waiting repair or recently repaired, many are parked under cover. Exotics of every kind, Mercedes, Tesla, true classics, etc.

If I were in this situation, I'd be pushing to have my car painted there!

It's been hit and miss on other colors so far. Seems they could Id'ed the cause on yellow and apparently have not ID'ed the cause for the impacted run of other colors. Or if they have thay are not sharing yet.

Can you elaborate? Was the quality of the partial repaint poor? Did you have to use the dealers paint shop? If you get the "yellow treatment" which option will you take?
I'm still fighting for a partial $2300 repaint (blue) but since my denial found 4 more body panels that have chipping.
Its becomming evident these impacted non yellows will also need a full repaint but if they deny chipping claims at 3 months and 3k miles what are the chances they cover aditional claims at 1 or 2 years?

Back starting in post #79

So I been trying to get ahold of Linda to discuss my case and have left a few voicemails. I just tried again and her voicemail is full and won’t accept anymore messages.

at least you have her contact info, I was supposed to have that a couple weeks ago, but never received that either.

Ok update: I just spoke to Linda. Here is some info based on questions I asked her. First off Linda is the main specialist handling all the yellow cases with Jessica and Michael assisting her so she is overwhelmed but trying to get back to everyone in the order she receives messages and emails. She is actually very nice and professional so please be patient for a response. She is fixing her voicemail now.

We have a deadline of December 1st to make our decisions as to which option we choose. So if you are getting the repaint done it should be completed by no later than nov 1st which gives you the full 30 days to make a final decision after the repaint is done. If you decide to keep the car after the repaint is done (jaw on floor from unnamed member here) a check for 5k will be mailed directly to you. This may take up to 30 days to receive.

If u decide to choose one of the other options of a different purchase than a Kia national corporate team will take over the case to assist and will require some documents and forms including purchase contract, payment and loan details etc. this process will take 45-60 days to complete the process and receive the new purchase or exchange.

Films and coatings will be paid directly from Kia to the install company or the dealership would be responsible for replacing the films and coatings. An invoice will need to be submitted to Linda and she will help resolve the replacement or reimbursement for the coating and finishes.

Do you have a case number yet? Pm me if you want her contact info.

Yes, they made all yellow stingers a case #..mine was made for me on July 28th. Your letter should have your case # on it.

One other note: Not all yellow stingers were sold and the existing yellow stingers that have not been sold are not supposed to be sold by dealerships that have them still in inventory. She did not eleberste as to what they will do with them but I assume they will be fixed before sold or returned to factory. She did not give me an exact number of how many were sold but she said it was not close to the 400 they originally brought to market. This might be more rare than we all think. So be wise in your decisions and best of luck to everyone getting the repaint as I’m hoping for a better than factory or as good as factory finish.

Interesting, I have been trying to find out how many were actually sold myself and I cannot seem to get an answer, straight or otherwise.

My appointment is for Monday, so if the paint work is good, I might lean more heavily towards keeping the car, if it is in fact that rare.

I will happily wind in my jaw, when I learn that $5K cheques are being received. Till then ...

That is news. I assumed that well over half of the 400 had been sold. This news makes the Yellow paint problem more acute. That explains why Kia is concentrating on that segment and not expanding this compensation campaign to other colors. If Linda is that swamped already, it would turn into a logistical nightmare. Other colors are going to have to take longer, be more patient, and accept warranty work with no compensation cheque. That is what I expect, anyway. Be realistic.
