Stinger Girl.

I realize this may be a bit off-topic, but I think it's WONDERFUL how Kia and this little forum is bringing together such different walks of life with such enthusiasm and generosity of spirit----quite inspiring, in fact :)

Hey Jasem, I haven't heard from you in a long time. How's life treating you?

I called the dealer today, beacuse I couldn't handle the suspense. And they told me that the car will arrive at the showroom tomorrow afternoon, I will go and check the car, and finish all the paper work, and hopefully.. hopefully I can take this baby the day after (Thursday). Because if not, I'll have to wait till Sunday because of the weekend. For those who don't know, our weekends here are Friday and Saturday.

So once again, finger crosses that I can take out the dealer this Thursday so I can enjoy the weekend with it. Wish us luck !!

Your exactly right
If we get it on Thursday, we're going to enjoy the hell out of the it together in the weekend.. we're planning to follow the exact break-in process this weekend, to make sure the car is is properly prepared for future roads..
Also aiming to hit the 1,000 KM mark on this weekend baring in mind each and every detail of break-in process - I just love this phase of a new car - I know sometimes it becomes overwhelming, but thats just a part of thr perks that I like. I'm kinda OCD in such stuff, unlike my wife @Huda, so let's say that I'll try keeping her off the wheel until we hit that thousand mark.;).

Enjoy! I got mine as the first non Kia driver so I did my best to “baby” her the first 5-600 miles. I still haven’t tried launch yet as no safe place to do it easily. I will find one on a weekend soon. I’m curious to see when you get it, how many pieces of protective plastic wrap you keep finding after delivery. I think, I think I’m not finding any more. It took almost two months to stop finding any. I saw it with all the coverings, it was massive. They took about two hours to prep so, they missed some. LOL.

As stated elsewhere, to keep the RPMs between 2K and 4K (for the first 600 miles), run it in Sport mode. I never took mine out of Sport mode for the first 600 miles. Go easy on the brakes during this time also so that they seat properly. Don't use Launch Control during this time. And "lively" acceleration is discouraged: if you don't go above 4K RPM, your acceleration will be moderate enough. You will have this baby broken in over a single weekend, by the sound of things! :D

I've already read the user manual, and know all the above, except I have not heard anything about putting it in sport mode? It is only mentioned to set it between 2k and 4k. Thats all.

Can you please elaborate more on this point, as I love to hear your thought about it. Thanks.

The reason he mentions putting it in sport mode, is because the transmission will hold the gears higher in the RPM range, therefore making it easy to stay in the 2k and 4k range.

Precisely that. It almost idles at 2K RPM in Sport mode. (slight exaggeration ;))

let pick your mind a little more.. what if I customize the "Custom Mode" to be all in comfort except the transmutation gear in Sport. this way I'll be able to achieve the high RPMs without stressing out other functions like the dumpers, steering wheel... etc.

What are your thought on that?

@Salman You can do that as well, no problem. It will take some time but it will work. However one thing to keep in mind is that, IIRC once to turn off the car after being on Custom mode it will change back to Comfort mode. You will need to put it back in custom. I don't think you have that problem if you use Sport mode. It will stay there even after turning the car off.

@robz32 After turning the Car on again, will I need to customize the "Custom Button" again? or I'll just turn the knob to custom? and it will have the same setting as before. which is not a big deal...

You will need to turn the knob again to the custom position, all settings for the custom mode will be saved.

It needs to be set to which drive mode you want, each time you restart the car. It defaults to "Comfort". Kia built it that way. It annoys some people: that the car won't restart where you left it. No big deal to me. I think that your idea @Salman is good. Set the shifting to Sport and everything else to Comfort in Custom settings and you should gain the benefit of longer shifting points with higher RPMs, so that you can easily stay between 2K and 4K RPMs for the first 600 miles, yet enjoy a comfy ride all the while. I also used the paddle shifters while "breaking in" the motor; that way I could instantly downshift to keep the RPMs above 2K. Of course, at a traffic stop, you just have to "suck it up" and let the motor idle just above 1K RPMs - unless you get OC about this and press the throttle to raise the RPMs above 2K while sitting stationary in neutral :p. I didn't get quite that worked up over breaking in the engine!

Sport reverts to Comfort, only Comfort and Eco stay put after switching off.
