So... i would presume that in order to make a valid comment about paint chipping you would have to own the car that has chips. I am a little perplexed that some comments are coming from members who dont even have a stinger! Own the car own the comment. No car no comment. Simple.
I understand some people don’t own cars, join the forum to research but I would want to make friends not enemies as that’s what forums are for. You can voice an opinion and make a comment but stick to the rules of the forum which are very clear.

Funny thing is when I was looking at buying a Mustang I drove it loved it but when I found out the safety rating was bad I did not end up buying it. I did not join the Mustang forum to make my decision, it just made sense. I own a Stinger now in Snow White pearl and yes I am a bit worried about the paint issue but it’s clear something is being done for those most affected. If I had the only option of a respray I would do it, sell it and buy another one in silky silver as it’s the least affected colour. The car is very good value for what you pay. It is a first production run and I took that risk but I’m still happy. I have found if you do too much research and wait for things too long opportunities are missed and life experiences are not appreciated so do it now or you will be dead before you get the chance. I feel good when I drive the Stinger and that’s the thing that’s important for me right now. What do they say? Carpe diem .....seize the day!

Yeah, I don't fully understand the threads people start here with titles like "Convince me why I should get the Stinger over XXXX"...I mean, people are free to post about what they want but ultimately they have to make the choice.

Exactly!

The answer is if you can find a 4 door sedan that can outperform the stinger for less money than buy it. I cannot find anything under even 60,000 that is comparable option for option. And no 100K warranty either.

You don't need to be an owner to discuss the issue. I don't own one yet and enjoy participating in many discussions here, including this one.

What doesn't work is when discussion turns to attacks and inappropriate language.

Disagreeing, arguing can all be done respectfully. It encourages new ideas! Just stay within community guidelines, which you all agreed to when you signed up.

The fact of the matter the problem is about paint.....paint can be fixed if the owners and KiA want to fix it. the last thing that you need to worry about is paint. Does the car work? Is it safe? Let's be real.

Let me reframed this question. :thumbdown:How can A positive perspective:)be created by a negative situation:poop:? I'm glad you ask.

You see ,in life there will be trials and tributlations. Hopefully some sprinkles of good times but mostly unwanted circumstances. There is no control over these things. But the one thing we do have control over is how we prepare ourselves mentally to eventually overcome these situations. Yes, easy to see the bad situation and call it for what it is. Hard is to see the bad situation and declare that this event will eventually be in your favor. That's having blind hope, despite the negatives. Believing despite not seeing. I believe this situation will, in the end, be our most finest moments. Don't know how, but I have faith.
For most things in life this may be true but not with goods and services. You pay 50k+ and have issues, said issues should be taken care of above and beyond your satisfaction.

100% agreed with you and I've been 100% satisfied with Kia's response to my concerns. I hope others receive the same treatment.

True, if we are fortunate in our merchants and customer service. If not, then find one that delivers. That is how the real world works out its own inequities over time.

I first heard about the issue with Sunset Yellow a few weeks ago, and sounded like it was Australia only. Saw another article last week regarding no market in particular, and was written in the US. Out of curiousity I called my dealer - East TN - to ask them about it being a issue in the states. They gave me a number to call at KIA USA. They said I should be getting options in the mail in a week or two.

Today I got a call from the dealership saying they are indeed going to take in my Sunset Yellow GT AWD for a repaint. I was on my way out of town for a few weeks today so I dropped it off.

They said the bumpers and chrome parts won’t be touched, just the main body. They are gonna strip it down to bear metal and build it back up. 3 week process at least. They offered to get me a loaner car, but wasn’t necessary for me.... I would’ve requested a GT2 though haha.

The service department was great and apologetic, handled it very well and gave me all the details.

I did have one pea sized chip as a result of some jack wagon weed eating rocks on the side of the road. Idk if it was related to the issue, but either way, it’s getting fixed for free now!

To me, not redoing the bumpers in unacceptable, but maybe that's me being too picky. I will probably be getting another color if they don't agree a repaint to the whole car.

Has anyone found out the bases for that decision?

The dealer notice that was posted a couple of pages back says that the adherence issue is only on metal parts, which make absolutely no sense, and the problem is the paint itself from the supplier. Kia is contradicting themselves all over the place with this issue. Yes, the primers are different on the 2 parts, but if the issue is adhesion of the paint, and the paint is the problem, why not fix the entire problem? They used the same paint all over the whole car so if the initial batch is incorrect, then the shading is most likely off and the pieces will never match. Sure it will look great coming out of the body shop, but give it 6 months, it'll look like a patchwork quilt.

Also, I have the problem of the headlight rubbing the paint off of the bumper, which I am definitely not going to accept back unless it is fixed.

Bottom line is we have to wait until we get our letters to figure out what exactly Kia is going to offer us completely.

Did they not explain all 3 options on the table from Kia that you have available? And the fact that we will have 2-3 months to make a decision on what our final option will be?

According to the official dealer memo, posted a couple of pages back, they are not going to strip it to bare metal at all, it's just down to primer and the use a different color primer.

Not wanting to rain on a anyones parade, I am certainly glad they offered to help, but I would be questioning exactly what they are going to do. I know we would like to see pics of before and after to help us see how the re-paint turns out.:thumbup:

All valid points I didn’t think about... I think I’ll call them tomorrow and tell them to hold off on doing anything until I’m aware of the options. I’ll keep my eyes open on here for what they are, as I won’t be home for 5 weeks to see the letter myself.

Option 1: A repaint, of which you already know of. However, we are waiting until we get letters to make sure of exactly what the repaint should entail.

Option 2: Replacement with another Stinger, albeit NOT a yellow one (grrrr). Exact trim level and options, absolutely no cost to you. Drive in, drop off, drive out your replacement Stinger.

Option 3: Full buyback. They pay off your car, plus re-imburse you for any deposits, taxes, add-ons, etc to put you back at 0 just like the day you bought the car.

Obviously it's the quick and dirty version, but we will be more than happy to fill you in on here once we get the letters we can scan and post.

Would be curious to know if Australia gets the same deal with three options. At present i have only heard its a repaint which is done in two weeks.
