That little strip pops out, I don't have a paint issue but had my roof wrapped behind the sun roof and they took that strip out to cover with black wrap.Yes on the top. It’s by the back window on the driver side.

Good to know. Thank you! That little strip pops out, I don't have a paint issue but had my roof wrapped behind the sun roof and they took that strip out to cover with black wrap.
I've been checking my car closely before and after each wash, and didn't find any paint problems like what the rest of you are finding. But a couple of days before my complimentary oil change on June 28, I did a walkaround and found a chip that hadn't been there when I did a walkaround after my last carwash. It's in a weird place—on that rubberized-feeling tape strip on the one 1-inch wide strip along the side of the roof from the sunroof to the hatch. Obviously not the flaking problem some other cars are having, since this is on a different kind of substance.

I pointed it out to the service department to find out what the fix would be, and they took pictures and said they'd get back to me. When I spoke to the rep a day or two later, he hadn't talked to his manager yet, but said he would get back to me. I gave them the benefit of the holiday week before calling back yesterday (11 days after reporting it) and left a message which wasn't returned, and so I called again today. The service rep I spoke to—not the same one—said they didn't have word yet on how to handle this, but it was in process.
I figured it was time to get a case number, and called the ever-patient and polite Jamie (sp?) on the VIP line. She explained that this will take a while, as any paint chips on any color car will go through the same process as the problems being reported on the yellow and blue cars. I had said I was aware of the problem with yellow, but it was Jamie who brought up the blue (FYI for those of you with blue who might have been told by dealers that blue was in the clear).
Edited, as per AV8R: Snow White Pearl, Nov. 2017 build. And I ain't no gentleman.![]()
I have the same issue in the same spots as you on my white stinger. I’ll post a picture once I am off work.

Yikes! I only have the one spot, on the passenger side, so I guess I should feel lucky.I haven’t been in contact with my dealer since I first took the car in. I’ve been keeping corporate KIA aware of what’s going on.
Have you been using your sunroof cause the damage looks like its rubbing.I haven’t been in contact with my dealer since I first took the car in. I’ve been keeping corporate KIA aware of what’s going on.
This Is a GT1 without the sunroof.Have you been using your sunroof cause the damage looks like its rubbing.
Then it's a GT. I believe all GT1's have sunroofs.This Is a GT1 without the sunroof.
Interesting...Then it's a GT. I believe all GT1's have sunroofs.
My theory is that ALL yellow Stingers were affected while other colors only have select VINs that are affected. Those other colors may be case-by-case while the yellow owners will be specifically contacted.Wild thay they have admitted yellow. My Black GT 1 has chips on hood, fender and rear quarter panel. Id imagine that it's as bad as any yellow..

I met with my Kia dealer in Auckland, New Zealand, yesterday afternoon. He took photographs and will be in communication with Kia. After which he will advise me of my options. He reassured me that Kia is a very reputable company and will look after me. A repaint is not an option in my country and personally I would not want it. He asked me what I would like Kia to do to resolve the situation. I suggested either a replacement Stinger or a buy-back. I'm leaning towards a buy-back as I'm not confident about the paint quality of the other colours. I should hear back in a couple of days. Regarding comments here about possible buy-backs, IMO you would need to get the total amount of the money you paid for the vehicle refunded.
So anyone who gets the car repainted with a superior paint job is completely irrational? This is the outcome a rational consumer would want. Just take the buy back and walk away.

As far as i can tell, THIS info is from KIA AU so i will not hold my breath that KIA USA will follow suit. Obviously this is good precedent to set but has anyone heard anything "quasi-official" from KIA USA?Hi Guys. The service manager at my local Kia dealer just called me. He told me that Kia will be communicating in writing with all owners of yellow Stingers and outlining what they are prepared to do. He did say that a respray will be an option and will come with a lifetime warranty. He also was adamant that the YELLOW colour is the only paint affected. When I receive the letter from Kia head office I'll post the details here.
Mark.
As @StingerGT68 said, so we are complete idiots for getting a better paint job? Something tells me your just wanting to see what you can stir up and get a rise out of people.
We happen to love the car and want to keep it. If it was a very serious problem that caused me to not be able to enjoy the car, then yes I would want a buyback no question. If Kia offers me a respary, with a reputable shop (and I know a few), then I will jump on it with both feet and most members with an issue would do the same.
Your ideas of rational vs irrational have no place here, and trying to insinuate that we are anything less because of the choice we make does not have any place on these forums. I personally have learned quite a bit and I'm sure others have too. If you can't be part of a constructive and informative conversation, and want to trash people who do, please leave.
So I guess "constructive and informative" includes statements that consumer protection laws only apply to products with serious safety issues? I have provided plenty of info to help people though the confirmation bias. Everyone keeps droning on about a buyback not being possible (then it was), that reprays of the front end would solve the issue (now we find out that its the entire paint job that is defective), or that a complete respray would be free of hassle (now we hearing about poorly executed respray jobs, as expected). I am offering counter points and, quite frankly, this forum has been incorrect and misleading on every one so far. You disagree and seem offended, so therefore I should shut up and leave? OK.
