I recently replaced the standard auto-dimming interior mirror with the optional Gentex unit that also incorporates the HomeLink Wireless Control System and magnetic compass. The only tools needed were a T20 Torx Driver to secure the mirror to the mounting plate, a "Nylon Panel Removal Tool" to gain access to the mount and wiring, and a 10 mm wrench to remove the battery negative cable. Electrically, the job was truly 'plug and play': the connector on the factory harness snaps into the new mirror housing just as it did on the original mirror.
Once installed I only had to hold my garage door opener key fob up to the mirror to program the HomeLink button. To calibrate the compass the Stinger had to be driven in a circle twice (under 5 mph, no 'drifting' please!) and then regional magnetic variation coded in (requiring only multiple pushes of a single button with a paper clip) in order to display direction in relation to True North.
The only surprise is that, despite all the electrons running around in this mirror, the three flush-mounted HomeLink buttons are unlit and do not benefit from any ambient illumination at night.
