Interesting Discoveries Thread (Good or Bad)

Is there a way to determine the firmware version? Or is this another Canadian thing we to the south just have to deal with. Heheh.

If you have the manual shift lever this is all irrelevant to you...?!? I thought you implied that's what you had in your posts above. Did I interpret wrongly?

I have a GT2 Drive (I still insist Fly) by Wire.

OK, so if yours reverts to D when stopped even in Sport mode, you need an update.
I will pay extra attention to the tranny. Thanks for the head up.

That's why the proper design, employed in all rally cars where you are doing a lot of steering and unexpected steering, is to use fixed-position paddles. Then, the paddles are back to being superior to a shift lever because you keep both your hands on or near the wheel.

Only a couple of manufacturers of road cars use this design (Infiniti being one) and I am always shocked and surprised when I read the universal pans of that design by reviewers. It is a vastly superior design for adverse conditions, though the paddles can get in the way a bit if you don't hold the steering wheel in a conventional manner. I have refused to buy a car without paddle shifters since 2002. I would always choose fixed-position ones if there was a choice (there never is).

Don't get me started on all the sequential shifters out there that are backwards (exception: Mazda). Again, check race cars where you ALWAYS down shift by pressing forward and upshift by pulling back because it matches the g-forces of your body under braking or acceleration.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of road cars' shifters are designed for parking lots and the expressway, not the actual, rare times when you could really take advantage and benefit from of manual shifting (adverse conditions or apex carving on a twisty, hilly road).
Fascinating! I had no idea that dedicated racing machines were the opposite: but it makes perfect sense. Thanks for the info!

How about this one -

When cruise control is on, and he car is accelerating because of it, if you are going through a turn, the acceleration stops increasing until you are past the apex of the curve! Check it out.

I just this afternoon discovered where the settings for Custom drive mode are. Heh! I am serious. Nothing in the manual that I saw explained that when you select Custom, the "settings" button is at the bottom of the purple see-through car icon on the touch screen. I don't feel stupid. I never really looked at the different colored see-through icons as I clicked through the drive modes. For no reason I can point to, this afternoon, there it was: "Settings", I touched it, it opened and I was playing. I've chosen "Minimized" engine sound. But the 3.3 is powerful and I don't notice any real difference in how it sounded in "Sport" mode before. For now, I've chosen "Sport" in all the other Custom categories. Why not?

Because this setting is stupid. There should be an OFF option and it is not clear to most of us how it works or even if it is working. You can change settings and not be able to tell the difference, exactly as you have experience.

And you are also right that the CUSTOM options are not explained in the manual.

Oh, another one: the rear "brake cooling vents" on the GT, aren't: aren't vents at all. Like the hood "intakes" they are merely decorative. So I have a question: are these pop outable? And are there real rear wheel well vents as a modification? My assumption is that both rear wheel "vents" and hood "intakes" are there to take modifications. And I would like to know more about how those work.

Due to the remodeling of my house garage, I had to park my Stinger on the street for 6 hours. I placed the windshield heat shield and open the car windows a little. When I went to work, about 3:00 PM, the ambient temperature was at 43°C (109.4°F), I got in the car, the cabin was hot obviously, then opened the lens compartement and then I took the sunglasses which were very hot to the touch as well as the walls of the compartment and the sunroof cover (I hate the sunroof, useless were I live).

Conclusion and a strong sugestion to KIA: You have to install from factory a thermal insulation in the entire roof of the car....is a must thing to do......and offer the d@mn sunroof like an option.

noticed today that the bolsters "deflate" when the car is turned off and "infalte" again to the previous setting when turned back on!
Seriously? Wow. LOL

Or just get tint!;)Lol. I'm partially kidding, but I live in SFL and its easily 90+ with 100% humidity, however my car barley gets more than warm with 15% tint. I know its not exactly the same temp, but unless somethings wrong with your insulation a good dark tint will prevent the interior from getting hot.
 What?!? Please explain... No wait NM, wrong place for that discussion and this thread shouldn't be used to debate opinions.
It is an option, it just happens to be included on the "optional" GT1 & GT2. It probably will be a stand alone option in the future, but sure Kia tried to limit customization on the initial Gen 1 launch, due to profit/losses. But I agree, and it would have been nice if they offered some items(like grey Nappa leather) as options instead of only available on the upgraded GT2. But beggars cant be choosers and I'm thrilled with my Stinger just the way she is!:D

Car windows tint..forbidden by my estate law except the police car windows.

I am used to purchase a car without all the options available in the US versions or able to choose those suitable por me here in Mexico....same old story...untill now with my Stinger GT2. I am very pleased with it.

I’m sorry to hear that, but they do have clear UV protection you can get that is almost as effective as tint. Just search this forum for threads about it as others use it directly on their windshields. Many swear by it too.

And congrats on your Stinger. Hope you love yours as much as I love my GT2... too!:D

A gentle reminder to all that this thread is for discoveries that are interesting relating to features of the Stinger. Please keep to that discussion. Occasional humour is ok but don’t bring up other thread topics here it only serves to stir emotions that can cause grief with other members. Thankyou

Oh, yes I love it and enjoy to drive it like a child with a new toy.
Thank you. You are very kind.

Seeing that today is my first day with my car, this may be more of a question than a discovery. As near as I can tell, it takes a number of steps through the menu to completely turn off my central digital display screen. When driving at night, I want it as dark as possible in my car.

With my Sonata, it was as simple as pushing the "Disp" button to turn it off. Is there an equally simple one step solution to turn off the display screen on my Stinger?

If you haven't done so, you can map the custom "star" button to this command to "turn off" the display. Turning it off really means just replacing it with a giant digital clock.

I've noticed in my Stinger, I set the side bolsters to the tightest as part of the seat memory. However, I've noticed there were many times it would not go into this max setting. Haven't figured out why though....

To this end, I've moved the discussion regarding feature parity (or lack thereof) over to the Open Letters forum, here:
