Gear shift problem

Have you had any issues since? I find that My GT2 tends to slip to N from both R and D on seldom/random occasions. In order to get the car to engage in D, I have to place the car in Park and try again. I haven't taken it to the dealership as it doesn't replicate easily and I don't want them to think I'm crazy....
Yes I have had ongoing problems. As usual it would not replicate the problems at the dealers. Somebody needs to bring to Kia's attention.

Press in the side button, move shifter forward or backward depending on gear desired, hold there, release button, release shifter. So far it's working. But it's like the ignition stop/start and the Mode not saving - more to remember driving this car! LOL

YES I still have the problem. Dealer is looking at again tomorrow

If it slips out of gear, was there already a conformation on the dash it was in gear?
These drive-by-wire systems usually need you to hold a switch in place for a while before it does anything....

Visited my Dealer Kia Mornington. Only need to press the button on the shift when putting into R and there is a slight lag. Don't need to press button when shifting into D. Resolved.

I'm having the same problem also mostly in car park situations going from reverse into drive and ending up in neutral usually holding up other cars while rolling slowly in neutral:

This Kia video says braking and pressing the gear button are both required to go from reverse to drive so i will try and be more conscious of doing this and confirm if the problem is me or the transmission?

I am taking mine in this week to have puddle lights installed and while it's there they mentioned they will be looking at the shifter (I think) that has been recalled.

I've had the same problem, always after either making the 90º turn backing out of my garage, or backing out of parking slots, and only when I'm in a hurry. I quickly figured out that it's because, due to the hurry, I'm slipping off the brake and/or releasing the gearshift button too soon when shifting to drive. When I'm not in a rush, this never happens. You really need to hold the gearshift in R or D, not releasing the button, for a little more than a split second, or the transmission just registers N.

I think the problem's us, not the transmission. Good thing--we can be fixed without going to Kia service.

Just got into my GT2 and checked out my DBW shifter. The only time you need to push the shifter button in is when shifting to reverse. From reverse to drive, you simply pull the shifter all the way down to drive. No need to push the button when shifting from reverse to drive.

Think I have the problem solved-its the way I let go the spring loaded gear shift. Matt the mechanic showed me how to hold and then gently return
the gear shift when change complete.

Interesting. Thanks!

I tried this three times today, and uhuh, it didn't work. I need to push the button to go from R to D. (See 1:18 in video.) Anybody else tried it?

I'm not doubting you, just wondering why yours and not mine. In other words, wondering if both ways are normal, or if this is a question for my service department when I go in next month.

I look forward to the vid. When any of us do end up in the service department with a real problem, all the forum videos are going to be a goldmine of support.

I understand. Just want to help. Vid coming soon.

My DBW vid ... hope it helps.

Ah, but you're at a full stop - certainly at least the brakes need to be applied, I'm guessing.

Well, dang, @Rango, ever since Wednesday, mine shifts exactly like yours! You were so right! There must have been something else I was/wasn't doing that was causing it not to slip into D without the button. Thanks for the video!

Kia is replacing my transmission , because it goes into neutral going from reverse to drive and from manual mode to automatic while moving. Thought the dealer had the transmission in stock when I brought the car in, it has been there for over 2 weeks. No one can explain why it would take this long to replace. I have a case open with Kia of America.

Damn. Good luck!

I agree that it usually happens when you doing things quickly but to me that's not good enough. If my old mechanical shifter in a Toyota let me change from reverse to drive in one quick movement ( and by quick I'm not talking about aggressively slamming it) then a latest technology drive by wire system should work at least as quickly and it doesn't. Going from reverse to drive cant be one movement, it's like it needs to be done in two steady steps, first into neutral then into drive and pause before you let you. This is supposed to be a performance car, not a truck
