That's interesting they admitted that. Good to hear. Maybe they'll enact a soft recall, only customers who come to them will get a fix.

We can only hope. My chips are really small at this point so I will wait to see if more pop up.

Could someone please post some recent pics of their paint chips? I had a few to start in the silky silver but they no longer seem to be an issue......subject to change of course. Thanks.

Someone in Australia just got a full repaint. They stripped his car down to the sheetmetal. Kia is aware and told him it's an big issue on most Stingers. If a dealer says it's normal they're lying through their teeth. It's the first model year for ther darn car!

I talked with that guy. He was very nice and laid all the details out as to what happened. Let’s hope Kia covers everyone. I’m sure they will not do anything for a little. They are probably trying to see what is the best coarse of action. Or maybe not. Who knows what they are thinking.

This is the most disheartening thread yet. I have to consider this and whether to buy wait or cry.
I get it’s a first year car but paint? Cars have been painted since the Model-T. Did they experiment in This with some new Green technology? I had a 2002 Acura in silver that had big paint issues. A region rep got the bumper repainted. It was peeling off, not chipping. Something about environmentally friendly paint and it didn’t stick to the plastic parts. Check out old Acura’s and peeling pa8nt, I always notice them. Sigh. I’m following this thread but I was about ready to buy this week. Damn. Sigh.

It’s still an amazing ride and I’m sure Kia will make good for this issue. Or at least I hope

I am trying to understand why the other KIA models are not having paint chip issues. Or maybe we just don't know about it. If KIA did try a new paint system the Stinger was a poor place to start.

I’ve not seen pics of a really bad example and only have a 2-3 tiny ones on mine in 2000 miles, so it probably is NOT every car, most likely a “batch” (perhaps a large one) issue. Watch any video of how cars get painted and it is obvious to see where some things can go awry.

Could be a "batch". This is why I referred to "build date" earlier in the thread...

Any chips are to many for me. But that’s just me. I be worried of more to come. Maybe your right but with all the chips happening I would think it’s effecting all stingers. Some might not show as much because of the color. Hopefully your right and it’s only a hand few but that puts me in that group because I have two small chips at 600 miles. One is on the door and appeared out of nowhere one day. Goodluck.

Road hazards will chip paint on a car, no matter how good a paint job. Part of a car's life (or some would say built-in obsolescence). Alas, they don't stay showroom fresh forever.

I have a bunch. I have a Hyundai Iconiq that has 10 times as many miles, and road the exact same route for over a year. I checked it for a comparison and it has a few rock dings on the lower front but now on the hood or front quarter panels. I have the exact opposite on the Stinger. The plastic is perfect but all the metal has chips in the front and the passenger front pillar.

I had 15K miles on my 2008 Mustang Bullitt when I sold it and it had NO stone chips on the hood or fenders, actually amazed me! Tucson roads are loaded with stones.

I read somewhere that Stingers made after March 2018 don't have the problem. Who knows.

Is this true?
Anyone with chips having a post-03-2018 car?

Mine has a built date of 12/22/2017 and no paint chips as of yet, with over 5000km. Keeping my fingers crossed!
