Here’s a question for all - if you got paint protection from the dealer, what does it cover? And what does the dealer actually do to protect the paint? Jackshit is my guess. Totally regret doing this at the dealership.
Paint protection at the dealership is (or at least was) a complete joke. We called it “mob and glow”. Charged $400 back in the 90’s and our cost was $39. I promise you it won’t prevent paint chips.

I think I will call the concierge number and report ot. Mines almost 4 months old and I have a handful on my hood.
Mines a lease I wanted to buy out but not feeling great about it now, also some cause for concern just turning it in at the end of the lease. If it's chipping like this now I'm afraid of what it will look like in 3 years

Hello to all so last night I noticed a little white snowflake on my door handle I thought it dirt or paint that splashed up from something I drove over but nope as I learnd from customer care its primer. I have 1300 miles on my GT1. I only drive on weekends I've had it for 3 months. I called 18003334542 and was transferred to premium and I was nicely helped. As someone mentioned they cover paint for 3 years I'm to got the a dealer and she was adamant about following up with her and letting her know if I get treated less than great. Ill keep you posted.

Note to moderators/owners of this forum.....it would be great to keep an ongoing list of paint issues, either here or, preferably, in a separate “file” in case a class action lawsuit becomes necessary. I’ve not even checked other parts of my car except for the front, but will be doing so now. Just because Kia covers paint defects does not mean we should all accept these types of issues.......continually.

I have an appointment Monday at my dealer to have them take a look at the hood. The Kia customer service rep on the phone said they're going to talk with the dealership and have a third-party assess the damage. And then they'll decide if I guess my paint chips are under warranty.

Interesting that the color underneath the black paint appears to be white... might be a good reason to go with the white pearl color when I get one.

You never know, KIA may have used dark gray or black primer under white.

Silky silver hides the chips well also but I’m adding a partial front end protector this weekend to take care of that.

This seems to be fairly common. My black Nissan Altima had white primer. Dealer said it helped the black pop more but I’m not sure what it would do.

When I washed my car today, I noticed two (tiny) chips. One on the hood and one on the side of the car. They are very small, like the tip of pencil. The paint/clear coat combo seem very, very thin indeed. The color under is graphite, so, very hard to spot (as my paint is Panthera Gray). It's still a concern though, because I've driven far behind other cars to avoid little pebbles and such, and have not heard anything. My Saab needed to be pelted by flying bits of gravel at high speed to get a similar result. I've been observing these threads, and kind of hoping they might have somehow changed/updated their processes, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Getting a film on the whole hood is probably a very good idea. Unelated, Panthera Gray is an odd name. Most species of that genius, like tigers, are not gray. The latin meaning is perhaps more appropriate for the car, "beast of prey", although I'm not sure what that has to do with a gray color.

In Canada the name of the color is Thunder Grey, much more appropriate in my opinion

I'm guessing the paint quality's not going to change when they touch-up or re-paint cars for this under warranty. Since the warranty is 3 years, I may let my dealer know, but let this go nearer the three years. After the fix, I'll look at a quality film, I guess.

Yeah, no matter what happens (if the dealer fixes it or a car detailing shop does) I'm gonna get a clear wrap for the full hood...piece of mind .

I have more paint chips. I am seeing less of them but it continues to happen. I will call the number next week. I am already super piss with the dealer and would not recommend them to anyone at this point. They have done nothing.

I wonder if there is any correlation between volume of stone chips and build dates of the cars?

Most likely yes there is some correlation between bad priming, bad paint, bad batch, etc. I’m at nearly 1900 miles and no more are appearing beyond the first couple. Of course, I’ve also just applied some front end protection. Hehe.

Ok.
I have a Black 2.0 premium model. I have had it exactly two weeks and I am noticing a lot of paint chips on it. It started as one on the hood over the weekend and the dealer got a paint pen to touch it up. When I stopped by to get the paint pen, I started cleaning off the massive amounts of pollen and I notice a heck of a lot more. The dealer claims this is normal and I am noticing it more because of the black paint. Is anyone else having an issue? I am worried this is a bigger problem.
Just letting everyone know that there is a paint problem as from what it seems. Kia is well aware of the issue but we still need to stay on them. I do know someone who had the whole car re sprayed. There’s was Sunset Yellow. If you have chips it’s only the start of more to come. I only have 600 miles and I already have a few. One on front of hood and another on a door. Good luck.

Ditto...Kia is very aware of this and we just need to convince them to fix it. I'm going to see if I can get my good repainted and then have them pay to wrap the car. Ridiculous.

Just curious if you know any details about how this was completed. PM me if you would like. We both have Yellow and definitely want to keep this color pristine.

I have noticed 2-3 on mine at only 4k miles, and my wife and I drove our '16 Optima over 22k miles on the same roads and never had an issue. I was washing it yesterday and it seemed like the yellow was a different shade from hood to bumper. I was out in the bright sun to make sure I cleaned it thoroughly. I don't know what they plan to do, but I'm thinking either pain correction/respray and ceramic coating from an installer of our choosing to make sure this doesn't happen again. Shooting for the moon, absolutely. All they can say is no, or offer a different solution.

I hope we all can get a recall on this. Not sure besides my Sunset Yellow is effected. I would think all are
