Which Synthetic Oil Will You Be Running On In Your 3.3TT?

I used Mobil 1 on my first oil change. I plan on upgrading to 100% synthetic. Once Amsoil makes a filter for this engine, I will use that. I was also considering changing the transmission fluid to Amsoil. I asked the dealer about changing the fluid on a sealed transmission and he estimated 1 to 2 hours of labor.

how many bottles of oil does the Stinger take? I'm probably going to buy the Mobil 1 extended performance and take it to the dealer

The first oil change will be at the dealer, so it will get a refill of Total synthetic 5w-30 by the sounds of it. Subsequent oil changes I'll do myself, with full synthetic 5w-30. I'll use Mobil, Castrol, QS or whatever other brand name full synthetic is available at the time for a reasonable price - they are all good oils and meet/exceed the required ratings for that engine. I haven't seen any aftermarket filters yet, so until those become available I'll be using the Hyundai part.

Great advice! Any new oil rated for kia specs will do fine. I have tested almoat every oil on the market at some point and you would be amazed how well even the convential oils do! Wal-Mart full syn tested as good as some top tier oils including mobile 1! Change your oil per kia specs and enjoy your stinger! Also 8 quarts of oil in the sump should be good for 7500 mile oci minimum. I will test something and share with the forum soon!

The general rule has always been use dino oil during break in to ensure the rings seat in properly. I have always followed that rule and will continue to...

If kia used semi or dino from the factory then you should be fine after 5,000 miles and use whatever you wish. Personally I always change @ 2,000 miles then again @5,000 miles as 70-80% of initial wear in will take place within those 2 oil changes. Everyone has thier own ways but as a mechanic, engine builder and car enthusiast I have found this works best for overall vehicle durability and longevity.

The person is right who can produce a service directive or other official Kia document stating that is the case - anything else is just hearsay. They are the ones who did the engineering, and until I see something published by Kia stating otherwise I'm going by the classification recommendations in their owner's manual. I will be using a full synthetic as those turbos do put additional demands on the oil.

100% correct on the turbos putting more demand on the oil as it runs through the turbos to lubricate the bearings. The turbos are also water cooled so its not like the older cars that only had oil running through the turbo. I would @ minimum use a syn blend and full syn would allow longer oil change intervals. I would bet a robust 5w-40( chevron delo diesel oil) would really do good in the stinger. I run that in a couple of my customers high hp wrx sti with great results. Will probably run a couple oil analysis to see how the kia does.

The manual says GF-4 (or better.) There is a very good video in which Engineering Explained went through the Mobil labs and showed what happens to oil in an engine. Good video worth watching.

I went to a large KIA dealership for my first oil change. Based upon the reminder sticker they placed on my windshield (which I removed and put in an inconspicuous place) they use Valvoline synthetic.
