I called Kia’s customer support line and after throwing a bit of a fit, I got them to pay for a touch up on chips that I had on my hood. I mentioned this forum and that there are others complaining about bad paint and they have a case manager who said he’s working on getting me reimbursed for a clear bra.

We’ll see how this goes, but at least they’re doing something!

Interesting, let us know how that plays out. So you said you got a clear bra installed on the hood?

Got the call from Kia today. They told me to get a quote for paint protection from basically anywhere I want and they will reimburse me up to $800 to get it installed. They are not giving me actual money for it, but are going to pay the next few payments until that money is made back.

Interesting, I'm going to look into that because it's getting pretty bad on my hood.

Go for the full front if you can. Mine was about $2k but totally worth it! Full hood, front bumper, fenders, and mirrors.

I got full front, full fenders, front bumper, mirrors and headlights for $1600, but I agree, it's wort it

So does this imply Kia is admitting there is a problem? Hmmmmmmmmm.
Certainly would appear that way.
Best thing they can do is get out in front of these issues (paint, leather, rattles) and proactively take care of them, regardless of cost to KIA.
Otherwise the whole “Halo car” effect will turn into a huge public perception problem. People will say... car looks great and drives good but quality wise it is just a KIA.

3 chips on hood. Can see the primer on all three. Bringing car to KIA today. Will update with results.

I just got off the phone with Kia customer service and they were very apologetic. They did not seem 100% aware about the problem so they said when I bring my car in for service in the next 2 weeks to first call them again and tell them that I will be there for service. Then they plan to talk with the dealership about possibly a warranty claim on the hood and the paint chips.

The representative told me that they have a 36000 mile / 3 year warranty on paint issues. I suggest you guys called Kia customer service as well. The more people that call about this issue the better.

Hey man have the same issue as you guys have the sunset yellow. I counted about 11chips on mine I feel like Kia is giving me the runaround really disappointing. The car is a month and half old. Called my dealer last week left messages heard nothing. Called this week nothing called back requested to speak to the service manager. Finally spoke to him and he told me to bring it in but a kia rep has to look at it he only comes once a month. I love my car but this is so frustrating.

So I went and spoke to service manager about the 3 chips. He basically dismiss it as rock chips. He went a step further and show me what a improper painting job would really look like because he can tell I was not accepting his conclusion. At the end I do believe it's from driving and not from paint issues.

So my conclusion: touch up paint, immediately follow by purchasing clear bra....stat!! We might have stumble upon KIA cost saving methods. Small problem to fix. Still love my Stinger.

Here’s a question for all - if you got paint protection from the dealer, what does it cover? And what does the dealer actually do to protect the paint? Jackshit is my guess. Totally regret doing this at the dealership.

That is why you say no to all that bs at dealerships... they don't do jack. Even IF they did apply something to the paint, you really think they would put whatever the best stuff is... no they'd go with whatever the lowest cost crap out there could be.

was doubting on taking XPEL Ultimate (am already having a ceramic coating done); am not doubting anymore after reading this...

Called my dealer about something else and took the chance to ask.......”have you had anyone mention a possible paint issue with the Stinger (chips in front)?” They said no but if I had any concerns to bring the vehicle in to discuss options. This is the single largest Kia dealer in all of western NC. In 1850 miles I have maybe two or three very small dings, but if there is a way I can get them to pay for clear vinyl protection I am certainly going to push for it. The good thing is that with silky silver the dings don’t show up very easily.

OK, this is to many posts for paint issues, I have 2 chips in my hood and I know when the appeared. The next morning after I first washed my car i noticed the chips, they did not look like rock chips. I drive on local roads and when I washed it I did not notice these chips. I mentioned it to my salesman who was taken by surprise that there would be any chips already. And at first I really felt like I just missed them during the wash, but now I am not sure. I love this car and I would be devastated if there is a larger paint issue here. I will take this up with KIA support not the dealer ship directly. I have worked for dealerships before and your need to get corporate involved before they do anything anyways. Thank you all for your honest posts because I will use this forum to show that this is not a rare issue. I know they need this car to be successful so I would hope they will do what is needed. My best guess is they will arrange a meeting at the dealership with a regional corporate representative who will evaluate my claim. I'll post any resolution.

Do you have a request ID I can reference when I call them???

I have a case ID but that's specific to my one car, they're only going to want a case ID if it's yours. As you said, reference the forum and say there's a number of people citing this issue. The rep I dealt with was very nice. We'll see if that actually leads to anything .
