Questions before installing Stage 2 on Stinger; Gapping Spark Plugs???

Northern Canadian here with a FBO stinger !

1. Jb4 was a great place to start ! I had put almost 50000 km on my stinger while having it set to map 2 and I've had 0 issues. Just do logs once in a while to make sure everything is good and enjoy !

2. It's not hard to set the gap and it'll add some extra reliability using the JB4. I've asked Terry in the past and he recommends gapping them.

3. If you're going to be using the JB4 I definitely recommend using 91 at the minimum. 93 from the essos will be your best bet tho. I've been running that for as long as I've had the car and it's been by far the best and most consistent. You should be able to safely run map 2 on the jb4 with it. Costco 91 is also a good second choice ! Crappy tire and shell I'd try to stay away from, I've never had a car that's liked their fuel lol.

Idk where in the Toronto area you are, but I know Xclussive tuning specializes in KDM. I personally don't trust him but a few people I know like him. Take that for what it's worth. You can also always go Ek1 + BMS TCU and ECU tune later on since you'll already have the jb4 tho.
Ah I'm in Alberta but thanks for the recommendation! I've looked at the Ek1 but there just simply not enough information about them hence why I'm going the route of JB4. Lots of videos and content on JB4 but mainly people from the states hence my questions around Canadian fuel. Interesting you mention Esso because I think that's the first I've heard anyone recommended Esso. I'm hearing mixed reviews of East vs West fuel but I think the general consensus is to try and read the logs as it may vary even within the Canadian border. I'll consider Esso though but they only have 94 at most of the locations here.

Yeah, I plan to gap the spark plugs as per JB4 recommendations. Just wasn't sure if I need a full intake system for map 1 or 2. I know there's a lot of debate between whether not they're true CAI as it's sucking warm air inside the engine bay. I just don't know if I'm ready to take the plunge. I'm coming from a Subaru Legacy GT Spec B where it was simply just running a catless downpipe + catback with a stage 2 accessport tune. I want to get some extra power out of the Stinger but nothing insane. It's already a big step up from my ~260-270hp (butt dyno) with my Legacy.

I hear you ! If logs turn out good you'll be having a blast ! And the Ek1 is pretty much the same thing as the accessory. There's maybe 1 extra step. It's basically plug into the obd to get you ECU and TCU name, go on the sxth site, get a patch file + tune files (really not complicated as it seems ), plug back into obd and load tune. I've had the Ek1+ BMS ECU + TCU for around 40000 km and it's night and day difference. Smoother power than with the jb4 and the car is just straight up faster ! To add to, I also have the jb4 still plugged in to use as a logging tool and WMI control. I've got hands down one of the fastest cars on the road with this and the other few mods I've got.

Stop giving me ideas! haha I've seen a video from N75 motorsports where I can download the tune files from sxth. Doesn't seem complicated. Might be alternative route instead of finding a tuner locally. With my budget, I think JB4 might be the way to start then I'll start exploring my options :)

I seriously recommend it ! But stick with the BMS tune ! I've heard mixed reviews about the sxth ones, but the BMS tunes are super solid and terry is always quick to respond and help as far as customer service goes.

Hey gentlemen, good morning from West "bless by God" Virginia!" I am brand new to this site. Just reading through your comments regarding tuners for the 3.3t and I am very interested to hear, learn more from those that have used these tuners for a longer period of time. Really interested to learn more about the EK1 system (I'm not familiar with them like I am the JB4) and regarding pros/cons of the EK1 versus the JB4. I've got an '18 Stinger GT2 with the 3.3turbo. What about price as well? Huge difference, if so, worth it in the long run? Further engine, exhaust, intake mods/equipment necessary to run the EK1 system?

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
...& Boogioogi, I may even have this wrong, maybe it is a BMS tuner? You mention "Terry" several times, I really like the thought of the ability when going through this purchase & install, to have an experienced tech on the other end that is great with communication and assistance... Any insight, advice, help is greatly appreciated guys!

The Ek1 can work side by side with the JB4. The Ek1 is essentially the equivalent of the Cobb accesport, just a bit more involved. I have both and utilize the jb4 to log and as a meth controller. You don't need any supporting mods of you just install the Ek1, but you'll get more benifits if you do have mods. I've spoken with Terry before and he still recommended running gapped plugs. If you don't already have a jb4 you can get just the Ek1, it'll just be harder to logs (still not that hard). As far as price goes, there's a few different versions such as the pro (more $$$) and the lite version (less $$$ but not as pretty looking). And again, the more mods you have, the bigger the benefits from the Ek1 will be.

The Ek1 device is a device coming from sxth, but the tune file used comes from BMS themselves. If you get yourself and account with sxth and look at their available tune files you'll see there's some from sxth and then there's BMS.

Boogioogi,
Reading your previous threads on this post, it looks like you've got quite a bit of experience with both the EK1 device AND the JB4... You recommend the EK1 over the JB4, am I reading this correctly?

If you don't already have the jb4 I'd skip over it and just get an Ek1. You can still log with it, just not using your phone like you can with the jb4. The big advantage the Ek1 has is that it's a real tune and you can also get a TCU tune, which in my opinion really transforms the car to how it should have been.

Hey thank you much Boogioogi! Greatly appreciate the feedback and advice!

Hey sorry, I just learned that you would still need the jb4 along with the EK1 to get the full benefits! You could still get a TCU tune tho no issues and honestly just that alone makes a massive difference. Sorry I didn't reply any sooner

Brake Boost Harness??

I was told the same thing by Terry with not much explanation. Why can't I just upload the BMS race file? (Because it's a BEF rather then full file??) n75 file is more complete? (499$)

(I have an ek1 but no jb4.. I'd prefer to remain stealth)

Honestly I'm not too sure either ? What you said makes the most sense tho ! I'd still be using the jb4 personally at this point, but that is because I also use their WMI system. If I hadn't already I would probably go lap 3 ! Only downside is the cost

Yeah, that lap3 with 45% exchange on the dollar for canadian is SUPER expensive.
Last time I ECU tuned a car, it was 575$ (2015) for a tune including 2 revisions after logging was provided. It was uploaded with their software + a special chipped obd2 cable attached to my laptop. I could go back to OEM map using my cruise control on/off button. I was making 345/395tq on a 4 cylinder. Thing's have changed. :-(

I agree ! Prices are outrageous for the most part for us Canadians lol. Bang for buck tho I think the EK1 is the cheapest way to go and still get some good HP gains !

Converting it to Australian dollars will make you cry, then our Customs holds the package in limbo until ya pay another import tax on it if it's over $1000 !!!

Sorry for reviving an older topic but was looking at the same JB4 package as the OP. I'm also in Canada, stock 2022 model with aftermarket catback only. Currently running 91 from Petrocan. Should I even consider this JB4 package considering I don't plan on doing methanol injection? I would only be going with 94 Petrocan or 93 Shell (if I can find some in the area). I've read that I'll be lucky if I can get map2 on 93 Shell, just unsure if it's worth the trouble of getting the package with intakes, plugs and oil catch can.

Edit: I am happy I've read your post about not getting the most performance out of ECU tune with Lap3 or Lozic. You've saved me probably a few thousand dollars there!

I've been running coop 91 in Canada on map 2 with ign 2-6 staying under 3.0 on 3rd gear pulls. If you look at coop 91 in Canada its one of the only pumps that does NOT say “may contain 10% ethanol” I've always had good logs in coop gas
