LAP3 ECU and TCU Review

Update from a few months ago

Broke into the 10’s today with a 10.97s 1/4 mile, thank you LAP3!!

OK mine will only be run on BP Ultimate 98 in Australia, i will only get to drive it once a month at best, so E85 is out of the equation.

Lap3 2.5 tune and tcu for the win or have i missed something in my quest for mid 11's

Larger downpipes-100cell cats to go on once i have a tuned ecu/no secondary cats/ K&N intakes/stock exh with bimodal feature...

NEXT UP : 100hp dry shot OR Larger intercooler will be my last mod's.

Hey all been awhile since I posted anything but wanted to share my experience with the Lap3 ECU and TCU.

Attempted a dyno run a few days ago on E60. Was really hoping to get 500hp but wasn't meant to be this time. I think if I drove the car some more with E60 may have cleaned up some timing and fuel trims but I don't know for sure. I typically run E50 and timing and trims look really good.

Still enjoying the car with the Lap3 ECU and TCU. Hoping to get to the track at some point!

What was your boost and timing

Timing is low cause of to much e. It's a fine line. In my car 6gal e Chevron 93 the rest. Is your premium 93?

You could have broken over 500whp but it appears you just did an ECU reset before that dyno run. You are pulling 2.29 adaptive timing corrections so you are only making a peak of about 17 degrees of timing at full boost. Leaving some power on the table but probably safe to say your car makes over 500whp :). Drive around some more before next time to let it fully adapt.

Here is a screen shot of your log on the dyno.

Yes using Shell 93 and yeah I ended up with E60 before the scheduled run. Here is a pull in Mexico with around E50 and I believe the timing is better.

Makes me wonder if going 2.5 would be worth the upgrade. I have stage 1.5 as of right now @ 481whp running meth and 93. I want at least 40 more horses to make it worth the upgrade...

Thanks! Yeah only two days before the dyno I disconnected battery to pull AWD fuse and rip off the bumper to clear the intercooler of debris.

I appreciate the information and log visual, I need to get me a program to view them myself and not have to use the phone.

Yea, you have to drive around a bit to get it to adapt. Mine takes a few days of like 20 miles a day to fully adapt.

All depends on what you are going for. 530whp has been seen on 2.5 ECU. I havent dyno'd but im guessing running 10.7 in the 1/4 mile, I am probably making 520-530whp

Love it!
Quick questions. Is the “liner boost curve” only for the 2.5 tune? And for your awesome runs what are your actual shift points?

I noticed in your log that you have your fuel bias set up to be more in high rpm’s and less in low rpm’s. This is backwards from what I usually see with a CPI setup. (Because usually fuel trims lower with rpm higher.) How come yours is set up this way? Don’t get me wrong your log is amazing- I am just trying to gain more knowledge.

I have it set up that way from the directions located on the JB4 CPI forum: https://www.jb4tech.com/forum/model...turbo/32181-kia-genesis-bms-cpi-flex-fuel-kit

Just throwing this out there.. What is the highest level of E someone has ran in Sub-freezing temps 20-30 degrees Fahrenheit to be more precise. As soon as it gets cold the fuel trims really get higher.

First impression LAP3 ECU, 2.5 with CPI

Upon the LAP3 box arriving I immediately began pulling out the old ECU along with it's bracket. It is a very simple job with a 10mm socket and some extensions. Once I had the LAP3 2.5 ECU installed I stepped inside the car in order to turn it on. I had to start it up about 4 times before it finally came to life. The smell of the built up fuel was horrible. I took it for a drive to my local E85 gas station in order to fill up with a E50 mix. I drove around for 20 mins or so in order to let the ECU do some learning and adaptations. When I 1st went WOT the car picked up immediately and with a surge in power, I was very impressed. I had a couple of hickups in terms of the correct settings for CPI in the JB4 but once I got those straitened out everything worked flawlessly.

-The shifts driving around normally are very smooth and now the throttle seems very linear in comfort.
-The extra timing makes the top end of the car at 6k RPM come alive.
-Torque seems to come on faster right at the beginning and stays smooth.
-In manual I even get some pops in comfort when downshifting.
-I ran some logs on the JB4 and AFR is buttery smooth, along with boost and timing.
-No problem at all with HPFP, stayed at 10-11 even while running E50 which the most I was able to do on jb4 was E45.
-On JB4 my most aggressive Map6 would only be useful if I wanted to really go fast but it wasn't practical for daily driving because of the hpfp crashes on E45.
-looking forward to trying out even higher ethanol mixes to see how far it'll go.

Previously I was on JB4 with CPI matches with a Lozic TCU. My best 60-130 jb4 run on map6 on E45 was a 9.27. Now with the LAP3 2.5 tune I was able to run a 60-130 in 8.40 seconds. This is with full interior and OEM wheels. I was never able to even brake into the 8s with just the JB4.

Now to review the extras. The disabled ISG (Idle Stop and Go) is very nice and allows me to forget about pressing that darn button every time I turn the car on. I chose to have the pops set up for sport mode only and with my current X-Force exhaust set up and OEM primary cats I think they sound good and aren't too loud. So far the logs look very clean and I am more than pleased with the regular drivability and performance that this tune provides.

For whoever wants the best ECU tune on the market for our platform look no further you've found it.

Wanted to thank David Chung for the quick communication and answering all my questions. Also big thanks to Charlie @Cashby31 for helping me set up the correct CPI settings in the JB4.

I know this is an old thread, but what are these “correct settings for cpi”? Are they different then Terry at BMS is calling for?

I see that now! Definitely different than what the instructions that come with the CPI kit tell you. I have always played around with Fuel Bias in hopes to have fuel trims stay as close to 25 as possible. (Probably a waste of my time.)
What is your fuel bias at? Mine are all at 80, I run full E85 typically on the IGN19 E85 BEF.

You are running full E85?! Sweet. I run e50. Mine is a taper fuel bias. I probably try too hard.

ok so in this thread sense 2021+ many of you have been using Lap 1.5 and 2.5. Can you give an update as how the car is holding up and if you are having any issues? I am looking at getting 2.5.
