I had a long talk with my Tuner that has been in the business for over 30 years turning cars and more and well known around the circuit but told me that it isn’t a good idea running the JB4 tune for it just manipulates the sensors and ECU which in turn pulls back on the longevity of the engine and went into this whole explanation about it and that he promises me he can get a better tune with the stock ECU ALSO explaining to me STOCK “air intakes” compared to like a K&N Intake showing me on his heat temperature gun how when just the car idling the air temp running between 120-130 degress basically from all of the heat coming off the engine that don’t sound like no “COLD AIR” intake to me…explaining to me that YEA the K&N intake looks cool n all but really the car will get a way cooler “air temp” going back into motor running stock intakes which made made scratch my head now questioning these “cold air intakes” upgrade hype as with the JB4 tune so I’m gonna uninstall the JB4 and let him put on one of his “famous” tunes and put back in the stock intakes and test his theory cause I’m not gonna lie. My last tuner that installed the JB4 that’s on the car now I swear runs like a f*cking jet I mean I don’t even go into “SPORT MODE” I stay in comfort mode and will pull up on anything on the road even testing the car letting a car get out ahead on me and walking his ass down like he was putting the car in reverse so idk if my NEW Tuner can beat the tune I got now with the STOCK ECU and INTAKE I will be beside myself for I have put up a good amount of loot for this “JB4 Tune”….
PLEASE FEEL FREE TO GIVE ME SOME FEEDBACK!

I agree with intakes, just put KN in stock boxes and you will be fine. You avoid sound also that is not fun over time.

An ECU tune is probably good if you aim for the last hp´s or will run ethanol but for 90% of us all JB4 is far enough and a very good and safe tune. There is just a few 1/10 of seconds to take of beyond JB4 for like 0-60, in daily running... stay with JB.

I have both JB and an ECU tune as I like to run full Ethanol and also like to change maps at wiper. Works good also.

I can really give all cudos to Terry with JB4 for a tremendous support and also Nathan at SXTH for the ECU help. Good guys that knows all about our cars and you are safe with them.

First of all..
Holy run on sentence, batman. Use some punctuation, my guy.
Secondly, you wouldn't find me trusting some dude who doesn't seem to be particularly experienced with tuning these vehicles over somebody else who has literal years of experience, working with them for hours each day.
Terry Burger knows what he is doing.
BMS, Lozic, Lap3 and Sxth are very experienced with these cars, their tunes are more than likely far better than anything your guy will be able to put out, especially for a dedicated ECU tune.

Ok thank you so much for your response

lol, yeah, but it works, it read like a steady motor mouth stream and I had no trouble staying with him and understanding what he said, which is what writing is for, communication. teacher. Ima going to follow this one, because it should further my education.

Well first of I didn’t know this was school I thought it was a Stinger forum but anyway I feel what you’re saying it’s just hard to find a Tuner you can trust so i was just getting different tuners perspectives about the whole thiing so he had explained to me about an ECU tune compared to the JB4 tune that I already have installed. Sorry I’m not as experienced with the JB4 as you or Terry why I’m here with this now. I just want my car to run the BEST with damaging the motor which was explained that over time may happen why he suggested just the ECU tune that he promises he can get more from without any damage to the motor but I definitely appreciate your feedback! Thank you.

One big thing to consider. If he tunes your ecu it for sure will void your warranty if anything goes wrong.

Guy tuning for 30 years vs guy(s) tuning this specific platform for 5+ years... ALWAYS the guy(s) who know the platform.

Sounds like you need to go find a more knowledgeable and experienced with the platform tuner. :)

@One Bad Ass Car
It's not a big deal, it just gets to be a bit difficult to read without much punctuation throughout multiple paragraphs like that.
Glad to share advice with anyone who will at least hear it.
The major tuners in the Stinger game have a very good idea of what they are doing. Long-term reliability would be much more easily attainable through one of their tunes over a tune from a guy who isn't familiar with the platform.

Never let him touch your ecu. I went back from cai to k&n stock air filter box. Sounds cool and all but I’m done with that.

explaining to me STOCK “air intakes” compared to like a K&N Intake showing me on his heat temperature gun how when just the car idling the air temp running between 120-130 degress basically from all of the heat coming off the engine that don’t sound like no “COLD AIR” intake to me…explaining to me that YEA the K&N intake looks cool n all but really the car will get a way cooler “air temp” going back into motor running stock intakes which made made scratch my head now questioning these “cold air intakes” upgrade hype

This one actually sounds plausible. Just today I noticed how much hotter the air from the vents is vs the outside air from the window, and yes I had driver and passenger temps set to LOW.
After about 10 minutes of running errands around town all the air ducts get heat soaked from the engine and you're just getting warmed air blasting from the vents, but opening the windows gives you a nice cool breeze, which would be nice if not for all the traffic noise and smoke from the forest fires. It's weird how even on a drizzly 19'c day you have to either have the windows down or the AC running.

So I can Imagine pulling air from the engine bay may be better for lower flow restriction but I wonder what it does to the intake air temp?

About intake temp:

- With open filters in engine bay I did had around 40 degrees C above ambient air when running in town, like 30 at the freeway

- With KN in stock boxes and with Wagner Ram Air I had only 10 degrees C (compared to 40 above) and only 5 degrees C at WOT

So if you are after the sound, go for open, if you want more effective intakes go for boxes, stock or others and Ram Air tubes into boxes. And another things when intakes has been tested by several tuners its always the tube between box and turbo that is most of the restriction. So best would be to open up tube in some way from box to turbo and then take the air from outside front.

Can someone tl;dr. My eyes just can't read WOT's any more.

@OP are you a product of CORE teaching?

Dude, this is like the 3rd post you've made about the same exact stuff...what the heck man?

Here is a copy/paste from the last thread I replied to when you asked slightly different questions but the same general post:

I answered you in your other thread already, but you're local "tuners" are idiots.

An example of something you can run cheap - diy intake, brake snip mod, plugs, JB4, CPI kit, EK1 tuner + BMS BEF, and then run it all on e60 and in the right conditions you'll be low 3 sec 0-60 and in the 10's for the 1/4 mile. Total cost ~ $2500.

Or you could do Lap3 and spend way more $ and only be marginally faster.

Or you can go with upgraded turbos and spend $$$$$ more and probably end up breaking something shortly thereafter. If you were serious about getting upgraded turbos I would highly recommend you sell your Stinger and go buy an M340i/M440i and mod it instead since it will be way better bang for the buck with the b58 than the Stinger platform.

Hey man I’m sorry I’m new to this forum shit and guess I’m getting beside myself trying to get answers Im looking for but really appreciate your reply as with all the others so please excuse my repetitiveness. Btw, I just had a 740 BMW before the Stinger and wanted something different to trick out and fell for the Stinger and want to try and get the best out of the car because I freaking love the Stinger and with what I’ve already had done it’s aler already fast as shit I just want more if possible. I got rid of my 740 to get my Stinger and dont regret it one bit.
