US EV6 GT review are out. This is what the Stinger should have been!

The US press have now gotten their hands on the KIA EV6 GT and they are loving the car! Comes with 576HP, 543 torques, tops out at 161 MPH, has some nice sport seats and a drift mode.

Sadly, the range on it is 206 miles but, I think if you are not hooning in GT mode all the time, you can get better range from it. However, KIA says they are making 2000-2500 for 2023, for a price of @$63,000. I guess they want to make it exclusive and will increase production if the demand is there.

Anyone ready to trade their Stinger for the EV6 GT? Well, if you can get one.

I'd rather see Kia take the upcoming Ioniq 6 and restyle it to be the new EV Stinger. IOW, is more of a sedan than a crossover. Of course, it needs to have the full GT treatment.

I was just writing about them doing an EV Stinger GT, in the final production thread. The E-GMP platform is scalable so they should be able to do it. The Ioniq 6 is most likely the Optima/K5 replacement on the EV side. We have see the Genesis GV60 show it's version of a (soft) sporty vehicle on the platform, the EV6 GT was shown before the Genesis came out so we knew what to expect. Now that it is out, it is showing even better performance. The N Vision 74 or RN22e might birth a performance GT on the KIA side, granted the N Vision 74 car is hydrogen based but the RN22e is EV and based on the Ioniq 6. That may be a teaser for things to come on the KIA side as well however, not in a full N version spec, not if they want to sell a lot. That would be the range topper, like the M3 in the BMW 3 series line. Let's hope they bring a Stinger GT replacement.

I know that Hyundai and Kia are technically separate companies who make their own decisions for design direction and what to bring to market. Kia does seems to be going down the route of being just a little more sport oriented than Hyundai is, even though Hyundai has the N line. I think that Kia would be making a mistake to not bring the Stinger back as a performance-oriented version of the Ioniq 6. Give it the lift back, and potentially even a "shooting brake" version ala the Porshe Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo.

I like the specs but not a fan of the external styling. Are true sedans going extinct? (Ie not crossover)

Give it a decade, but you'll see the Stinger again.

At under 6" ground clearance, It's more a hatch than a CUV. Probably did that for battery protection.

Yeah, the body lines arent there. No booty to look back too. It needed to have broad shoulder stance and a beefy back like the stinger.

$63,000 … I am so happy the Stinger never started out as an EV. I would never have owned it. Every manufacturer now trying to get into the game with Tesla pricing is beyond comical. I guess they think everybody is stinking rich and we are not in the middle of a recession with no end in sight. Might as well just shell out a few more grand and get a used Tesla if that’s your thing. Of course none of these new aluminum boxes with elevator motors impress me. Never did. Never will.

Sorry but styling to me also looks like end result of a frustrated arts design class competition. They all began by looking at pictures of the latest hyped EV’s and were then told it needs to be unique with a little bit of a twist. Don’t forget the power bulge lines on the hood and a continuous tail light design.
Could even make the lights look like they have eyelashes if you want.

It got as low as -9F here a few days ago, current at +14F. How well do these ev's run in such cold temps?

I think I'd prefer the Ioniq 5 GT - it looks like an old MK1 GTI (my first car was an MK1 Jetta GLI, then MK2 GTI 16v) but a bit bigger. Not sure which of these would be allowed on the track - they usually have a "no SUV" rule. Not sure if it applies to crossovers.

Or how Kia would feel about me taking it to the track.. I have a better understanding of an ICE vehicle on the track, what can go wrong, where to get it fixed, etc. Not sure how to handle an overheating battery, for example, or what happens if wiring melts due to stressing the car - does it require a full tear-down and rebuild? Etc. Plus, the newer cars get, the more they are locked down, etc.
