What to do about black chrome around exterior windows faded and pealing? Stinger is one and half years old with 40k

Well, you asked already. You are past your warranty in miles (36K), so this is on you. Wrap the pieces, or spray them gloss black (to match the other gloss black accents all over the car), or scrub them down and wax/ceramic them to seal them from this happening readily again, or, buy new for over $500.

pull it off, sand it a bit, and spray paint it gloss black. works like a champ and blends in with the window surround. Also/or, put on the "clover window visors" found on Amazon for $45. looks good, functional, and covers the bad trim.

Trying not to touch that area at all when closing doors, I also wipe off water or whatever gets on it before the sun starts to bake it. Would be nice if the replacements were better but Idk?

PPF will prevent the chrome from oxidizing.

If they're already hazy (like mine are) you have to get them painted/wrapped/replaced.

It's the clear coat coming off of the chrome I used a Mr Clean scrub pad and took it off polished it up real nice.
And I'm still under warranty why haven't replaced to do the same thing again

That looks very slick.

I’m not sure if I should with my Thunder Grey. Only one is oxidizing right now, mirror caps/grille/etc are still good. I also noticed that applying ceramic coating actually cleared them up a bit.

past warranty, almost, but on the base and premium '18 '19 and I presume '20 model years, before Kia moved to the gt styling for the 2.0l, the chrome matches the top grille and door handle garnish and brake vents. so it's the brighter style and for some reason it doesn't have this problem the dark chrome window strips do. at least nobody I have seen has reported a 2.0l trim with this problem. mine looks brand new still.

i just read that magic eraser clears them up pretty well.

What can you not use magic eraser on?

  • Don’t use them dry.
  • Don’t use them to polish your car (or any delicately painted surface)
  • Don’t use them without gloves.
  • Don’t use them to clean delicate countertops.
  • Don’t use them to wipe down nonstick pots and pans.
  • Don’t try to brighten stainless steel.
I would be scared.

Or just pop them right off the car. Not too hard to do.
I don't like removing things categorically. things taken off and put back on can get sloppy plus there is the chance that you can bend a trim piece. scary.

True, but if you start at one end and work it a little a time you'll be fine. I was worried about bending them as well and it's not as easy to bend as I thought it would have been. It's basically a steel strip with plastic backing that clips in. The only thing you need to watch is the very end on one side since there's a tab which requires a slight sliding motion to get it on/off.
