Is it bad I’m considering car based on forum?

Is choosing a car based on the community dumb?

Hey all,

Been a while. I sold my Stinger about a year ago and I’m itching to get back into something fun again and out of my Ridgeline. I’m thinking about getting a new Stinger but I also was heavily considering the new G70. However, I went to the G70 forum and it’s just not very active, whereas this forum always has been. The cars are so similar that this is actually factoring into my decision because I enjoy the community. Is that a weird thing to factor into my car decision?

if i didnt drive a stinger, i would drive the g70. love those darker gray colored ones. sexy car.

i just built one. cant afford it.

I agree, the himalayan grey hits different. Have one for family car for gv70.

But still nothing beats the stingers styling imo. Especially in that new green color.

i voted no.. .because, sometimes you can't beat a community of people that you can talk too about the car... however, if we get the shooting brake g70 with the ttv6 it would be hard to not get it..

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I originally looked at a G70 in a siberian ice white in late 2019. Loved that color and wish it was also on the Stinger.

But when I started looking at the Stinger I preferred its style and spacious interior.

I did notice back then the G70 forum wasn't very active.

Yeah I’ve never driven a G70 but I know it has a trunk instead of a hatch and have gotten the impression it’s not as big inside overall.

Honestly it having a trunk instead of the awesome hatch of the Stinger is the biggest drawback to me, so if we got the shooting brake I don’t think I could resist. But we don’t get the cool stuff here so I’d be surprised. Like if money was no object I’d daily an Audi RS6 Avant.

The back seat area was pretty cramped when I sat back there testing it out. The trunk was small. I think they have been redesigned since I looked at them, but not sure if the redesign included making the car longer to make the rear half of the car more spacious.

no, it was just a facelift so nothing structural changed for the sedan.

i generally prefer smaller cars, but the chain link fence grille on the G70 just ruins it for me.

ok, now you've ruined the g70 for me. it does look like a chainlink fence.

Hi, Tyler. Wow, almost a year since you unloaded the Stinger, time flies.

An active car forum has to beat a promotional book, and I bought the Stinger after a winter of (re)reading the promo book. :P Found this forum c. two months later. Like you, the hatch is a big selling feature, actually a deal breaker for me: I'd never have even test driven a Stinger without the hatch, the wheelbase, the advertised rear passenger room (the practicality). I was following behind a G70 a couple of days ago and it is indeed a fine looking car, from the rear; I said aloud to myself, "Hi, cousin." :D

Good to see you’re still around, Merlin. Hope you’ve been well.

Can't complain. Everything works and nothing hurts. All other aspects of life are addons. :D

I originally bought the car without knowing anything about this forum. I then found this forum and realized how awesome the car was as well as the community. It kinda resold me on the car and solidified my purchase decision. The community of a car forum is similar to a housing community... It can tell you a lot about things. Is it loud or is it dirty or is it full of kids who just run up and down the street in front of your house at all hours of the night and then you call the cops and find out one of the cops is your neighbor and is the dad of one of those monsters. You then move on and try to forget about it and decide to login to this site to learn some things and get some peace and quite. So basically what I am saying, no...it's not unreasonable to choose a car based upon the community.

No deals on the G70 when I ended up with the Stinger [no regrets yet, fwiw].

I registered on this forum after buying. So, I voted Yes on the poll. I don't spend any time at the track, drag strip, or hang out at cars and coffee. I'm glad there is a community for Stinger owners, but I'd still drive the car if none existed.

There's some G70 owners on this forum, mechanically nearly identical vehicles so that makes sense.

Of course it's very beneficial to have active forum for your car. We can always talk about wich oil is better!!
