G70 out sold Kia Stinger in Korea

If they end up being similarily priced, the main advantage of G70 will be the dealership experience. I test drove a G80 sport. Liked the car. But was most impressed by the genesis service. These cars come with concierge service. You need an oil change? they come to your house, pick up your car, and leave a genesis.

Compared to that, my local Kia dealership is like the men's bathroom.

The G70 was designed from the start to be a luxury car and KIA held back some to ensure the G70 does well. I’m sure they also limited production of the Stinger because it not like there are Stingers sitting around in dealer inventory and not being sold. While the Stinger does well as is, performance wise, it lacks the level of luxury the Genesis brand has and the G70 was designed to go head to head with the 3 Series. The Stinger is an excercise in ‘look at what we can do”, the G70 is there to build out the Genesis brand’s lineup. Don’t worry, KIA is seeing how much demand there is for the car and will begin to add more, although I feel they will still do less vehicles to help the Genesis brand succeed.

Seems the Kia has the same features everywhere else. And there's plenty of Stingers sitting on the lots around me.

I agree with everything stated here. Yet if the G70 is only a few thousand more than the Stinger and have the same type of lease deals as the G80/G90 (Because if the car costs more but has a lower money factor and/or higher residual, it could be the same or lower than a Stinger to lease). IMO I believe the G70 will out sell the Stinger here too, especially if it gets things like the 360 camera. So far the performance reviews I have seen/read shown the G70 handles better and is quicker than the Stinger because it's smaller and lighter. Plus most Americans are badge conscience too and will rather have a similar performing car, if not better performing, with a badge not Hyundai/KIA (Obviously I don't agree or care about the badge, just a observation based on comments on the internet).

IMHO the G70 is the true competitor to BMW/Audi per performance, especially comparing the dealership experience (Not all Hyundai dealers are any better than KIA yet the soon to be stand alone Genesis ones supposedly will be on par with luxury brands.) and the amenities which are better than most if not all luxury brands. You get 3yrs of the following: Genesis Service Valet (pickup your car and drop off loaner at your house), Complimentary Scheduled Maintenance, Genesis Connected Services (app support including remote start), SiriusXM All Access, Plus Traffic and Travel, and Navigation Updates.

With that stated I love my Stinger as far as the car itself per looks and performance as its a Grand Tourer more so than a BMW/Audi type performer. Supposedly the G70 suspension is firmer like the BMW/Audi and I am no longer a fan of it. Plus the utility of the hatch vs the trunk.

Yet I have not seen a single Stinger on the road around me and I live in probably one of the biggest auto markets as there are 8 KIA dealers in a 25 mile radius with 102 Stingers on the lots, but were 50+ a couple of months ago. Not that I don't mind having the only one....

Are the Stinger and G70 actually competitors? Yes they have the same engine, transmission, and (roughly) price point but the G70 is a compact sedan, about the size of a Toyata Corolla. The Stinger is a midsize coupesedanhatchback. This is like comparing a fully optioned C Class Benz to a fully optioned E Class Benz.

Are they really going head2head?

The G70 is about 2 inches longer, 3 inches wider and has a wheelbase over 5 inches longer. So, not quite a Corolla. It is pretty much the exact same size as the C-class Mercedes.

I will likely compare the price of the top G70 model (I am guessing Sport HTRAC) to the Stinger GT Atlantica. If all of the options and amenities are equal (i.e. Genesis doesn't pull a Kia and drop stuff) and the price is close I will likely forego the hatch, extra rear legroom and slightly better fuel economy for the Genesis Connected Services (remote start, Alexa, etc.), free 3 years maintenance and quilted seats.

Lastly, if the loaded C class and E class were within a few grand of each other but the C class came with extra stuff (like free maintenance) I would for sure cross shop them as well, I think it is a "bang for the buck" thing more so than a size thing, at least for me.

Don't you get UVO in the US? Here UVO is free the first 3 years and is basically the same as the Genesis connected service (and Hyundai BlueLink). Even the app is the same, only with a different color theme...

Yes this is aftermarket. The G70 has no power trunk.

Yes, the slight margin actually goes to the heavier Stinger.

The G70 vs. the Stinger in the US is a very different proposition compared to other markets given all the things missing from the US Stinger.

I'm one of those who always questions their decisions but after reading this thread I'm more sure that I made the right decision with the stinger.

The big feature for me is the extra legroom. I still drive friends and kids. They barely fit in the stinger, so I'd hate to see anything smaller. That was actually one of the reasons I went with stinger vs s5.

In addition, the stinger design does seem unique. I've had so many people comment on it. G70 looks good but seems 'normal'.

I actually like the extra weight. I feel more steady and secure.

I like awdso not sure if g70 has awd or not.

All that being said, from reading this thread , I will be jealous over the extra tech, better interior material/design and dealership experiences/amenities .

With all all that said, I still choice stinger if you put both of them in front of me.

Thanks for posting that. I believe the Canadian version of UVO has those functionalities as well.

Seems there are US Kia products and then ROW Kia products. Must be some financial or marketing strategy in there somewhere.

From what I'm reading here,

I think you made a good choice for your personal needs. So no shade from me.

The G70 does come in AWD.

I didn't mention this difference in my original post as I dont know if this will carry over to the US model. But since we are discussing the AWD model (which I am also interested in) I will throw it out there. In Canada, the AWD G70 comes with a limited slip diff in the rear instead of an open diff like on the AWD Stinger. If that holds true I will likely lean even more towards the Genesis.

More than likely the G70 will have the items missing from the Stinger, like 360 Camera, Wireless Charging, and Heated Rear seats, to sadly name a few. If its not at least $5k more, I predict it will outsell the Stinger here too, especially if better lease deals. Genesis looks to be building up the G70 as their halo product to help launch the brand as separate dealerships across the country.

It may look plain Jane but thats what was said about the previous gen Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, both sold tons for that reason alone. It may look like an Infiniti Q50 but I would take a G70 over the Q50 on the infotainment system alone. Night and day difference and is usually one of the main complaints in Infiniti forums about the Q50 and usually rated the worst infotainment system of all automakers.

Again I love my Stinger but it just pisses me off about lack of a sophisticate mobile app or at-least the same as the K900, paying for Nav upgrades, and shortened XM trial. All these items KIA could have included and I seriously doubt its based on cost alone. I'm sure auto makers get a huge discount when bought in bulk of Nav updates and XM packages. And Canada has the most expensive cell service compared to the US yet KIA offers a mobile app system with remote start there, using that same cell service. More than likely again at a discounted rate bought in bulk.

Yeah, the UVO app thing does make me angry. So so limited to the point of being useless. My 2014 BMW could unlock doors, honk horn, locate on a map, etc...

The one feature I really like in the BMW Connect app was the ability to ventilate the car remotely. Was a great thing to have on a hot day.

I would like to choose for myself if it useful or not. People who don't want to use it don't have to. But in this case, those who do have no recourse.

I also doubt it impacts the bottom line (price wise) given that it is available on a Hyundai Elantra in the US.
