Oil change at dealer - concern over fishy business

This is my first post. I am not sure if this is the right thread, but here we go. I purchased 8 x 946 mL bottles (7.57 L) of Amsoil XL 5W-30 oil. I brought in my 2021 Kia Stinger GT 3.3T for an oil change and requested they use that oil of course. After they where done, I picked up the car, and I have a couple of concerns that make me question if they actually used the Amsoil:

- The specs indicate an oil capacity of 6.9 L. I expected there to be a small amount leftover. I drove away without checking the trunk, and when I got home, noticed there wasn't any extra oil in the trunk of the car. I called the dealership, and asked them why there wasn't any leftover oil, and the service admin person was not able to answer the question. Am I missing something here? The oil filter perhaps makes up the extra?
- I have a dash cam. The cig lighter to USB cable was still plugged into the cig lighter, but they had disconnected the USB from the camera. Why would they do this? I asked the service admin why and she again, could not answer. Makes me feel like they were trying to hide something....

I had a sort of poor experience when purchasing the vehicle, so my faith in the place is already on edge. Perhaps I'm just tripping.

Looking for comments comments on my above points. Following that, I plan to return to the dealership, ask for the service manager, and calmly ask:

- Why was there no extra oil? Are you able to show me the used bottles?
- Why was my camera disconnected?

Also, what options are there available to me to test the oil? I'm considering contacting Amsoil and asking if they are able to confirm a sample I send is indeed the product I purchased. Is that a thing?

Check your oil level to make sure they didn’t overfill.

I think you are overreacting. They most likely threw away little bit of oil they got left. They wont show you any empty bottles now. Too late for that. Check the oil level, to make sure it is not overfilled. If you don't trust that dealership, dont do business with it.

Glad I do my own oil change on all our cars. Watch they didn’t even do an oil change and just stole your supplies.

I agree with Ohiocruiser....you might be overreacting! My answers to your questions or just playing Devil's advocate...Why would they specifically keep your bottles after use...how long do you keep trash around your house?
The service admin will have no idea or answers for you...that is not the role of the position! If you are to the point of contacting Amsoil or testing your oil then you just need to do your own service my friend!

Howdy and welcome. Asking questions like that will only result in you going somewhere else anyway, so, don't bother. Next place you go, tell them ahead of time that you want all the empties and leftover oil: bag it up.

Disconnecting the dashcam is probably entirely up the quick change kid who worked on your car. Some people don't like being recorded. My anecdotal 2nd hand info tells me that dealers near me leave it up to the technician to disable the dashcam or not at their leisure.

It's not like you had a senior licensed technician working on your car (maybe you did, I don't know)

The dealers by me use just kids in the quick lube lanes... And licensed techs do other larger jobs the quick lube kids can't do.

Does the oil on dipstick look new? Most new oils are very light yellow in color when new. Almost like pee after drinking lots of water. On this car, my oil after a change looks clear against the red level.

Any kid with most functioning brain cells would put back any left over customer supplied supplies. As mentioned, ask the service mgr what happened to them.

If you got the means to a garage or have friends that work on cars, oil change on this car isn't too bad. Biggest headache is just getting the car up and installing the new oil filter. Wix offers filters for the 3.3 which are easier to install than stock.

The filter is 100x harder to access on RHD models due to the EPS motor being right under the filter.

Hello,

Thanks everyone for the responses. I have since calmed down, "slept it off" as it were. I measured the oil level and it's good (a bit below full), and it looks fresh and clean. I am certain the oil was changed; and I don't actually have a great reason to believe they may not have used the Amsoil. I was overreacting, as some mentioned. I appreciate the comment that disconnecting the dash cam may be common and I can understand why. I will consider doing my own oil changes down the road, but I will continue to use the dealership for other service needs. Maybe I can establish a stronger relationship with the service manager. I had a very challening last year with a sick kid, he's getting better now. So now....

Going to take some time off work, got some gear that just arrived (HKS spark plugs, JB4 (with EWG and PNP wires), BMS OCC) and Injen intake on the way! Plan on installing over the next month or so. Look forward to continuing to particpate on StingerForum. We'll see you all around.

You were probably right in being suspicious. Dealerships and shops are dodgy. Swapping your expensive oil for castrol gtx is the perfect crime.

This photo makes filter look as if it's mounted parallel. However about a quarter of the filter sits above the motor. Even renders the little round filter access panel useless.

There's a baffle plate under filter where the motor aligns to prevent oil from being spilled on the motor, however it doesn't seem to work well.
