Differential issue

Honestly I assumed they would come with a standard set of all seasons. Definitely my fault for not looking more closely at the tire but like I mentioned I always drive on winter tires and was on a pair of Michelin X-ice before getting this car.
As others have touched on, it's important to be aware that the road doesn't even have to be wet for these tires to be compromised, low temps will cause issues. They're summer performance tires so if that's what you've got then that's definitely contributing to the issue. If things are as bad as you say with the diff, I wouldn't even drive it. Make them give you a rental until it's fixed.

As observed already, it's weird that the Canada spec Stingers come with Michelin summer rubber: when Northern States (US) AWD trims come with A/S. Now you know. Get some winter tires on your ride at once, then come back and report.

I don't think it is worth it anymore - I hope and pray the worst of the winter is over.

But I will definitely be updating my summer driving experience as well as the conclusion on this ridiculously long experience with Kia Canada and my LSD.

I don't think they would agree to it. They try everything possible before ponying up the coin.

They just did another software update yesterday - which was apparently a new update. They thought perhaps it fixed the car but while there were definitely improvements the issue is still there.

I am getting so tired dealing with this. I wonder if Kia Canada is just waiting for me to give up from exasperation and just learn to live with it.

How can a software update affect the mechanical differential?

Is the issue with the differential? Or the active stability and torque vectoring which uses the brakes?

That’s a great question. Sadly I have no clue. This is just what I’ve been told. Perhaps the problem is two-fold and the software update addressed one part. I’m just speculating.

When I had an Optima they had to replace the traction control unit. Sounded like this. Had a rental car for 2 months before they figured it out and fixed it. They said even though i had traction control off it's not "really off" in that car. Hope things work out better for you.

Thank you. I will mention this to them also just in case.

For anyone following along: Kia Canada decided I needed to drive a different Stinger to see if it has the same problem. If it did then it's a bigger issue than just mine so perhaps they wanted to gauge just how widespread the problem is because otherwise why does it matter if someone else's Stinger was also defective.

But, I went and drove it. And it was smooth like butter. The issue was completely absent.

Now I wait to see if they will actually authorize the repair or if they will come up with something else to "try" again.

Were the techs not able to duplicate the issue? Why would they need you to drive a car that is not yours that doesn't exhibit the issue?

Couldn't the technicians do that without you?

Confused

I am as confused as you. It was not the dealership that required it; Kia Canada wanted me to drive another Stinger to confirm with them that the issue my Stinger suffers from is indeed an issue and not just how a Stinger drives.

It is absurd, I know. Apparently I might not be aware of how cars are supposed to normally drive.

this sounds like hell. clearly its either an issue with the rear suspension or the differential itself. Based off of your description, it seems like the rear diff is locking up the entire rear end. have they even disassembled the rear diff to see if there is damage internally?
I almost want to suggest having the rear axles removed and try driving the car in FWD only and see if it still does it, as dumb as that sounds. if it drives normally (as normal as a FWD stinger would) then clearly the rear diff is the issue.

uh...

there is no FWD Stinger.

The transfer case clutch pack would HATE you

Im aware there is no FWD stinger, However, something is clearly wrong with the rear end of OP's stinger, causing it to do what its doing. as for the transfer case clutch pack, it would still engage just like normal and spin the rear diff as it should, but if the car drives like a normal car should without any power actually going to the rear wheels, then that narrows the problem area down significantly. and if something breaks? Oh well, shits F**ked anyways.

It's a rear biased system, you can't just take out the rear axels, it won't work, it needs the force applied to the rear tires. You will destroy the center diff and also stress the front diff and axles as they aren't designed to deal with that much force alone.

Dealer just needs to open the damn rear diff and inspect it already and stop screwing around.

It has definitely been a crappy experience and has soured my opinion of the Kia brand.

I don’t want to have to do anything else. I’m just waiting to hear that the new differential has been approved but I’m also ready for some other ridiculous requirement.

In the dealer’s defence, their conclusion and recommendation was to replace the whole differential. It is Kia Canada (or whatever entity is between Kia Canada and the dealer) who wants to try everything else they can imagine before approving such an expensive repair.

Im sorry you have to deal with that. specially on a brand new car. if it was MY18 or something like that then I understand the runaround, but in your case it really should be "do whatever you need to keep the customer happy"

Thanks, appreciate the words. It boggles the mind why I am getting this kind of runaround.
