Competition is always good, especially from a known brand. At this price with credible warranty/support, I'm in.

Motorola's MA1 product page

On Indiegogo, the project was backed by more than 52,000 users, with the total donations to support its development getting close to $4.8 million.

Motorola has apparently spotted the potential of this market, so the company today unveiled its very own adapter that does pretty much the same thing.

Simple called Wireless Car Adapter for Android Auto and known as model number MA1, the new device does exactly what its name suggests: it converts Android Auto from wired to wireless.

The design of this adapter is rather simple, and this is exactly the way it should be anyway. Users only need to plug it into the USB port of their cars and then have their phones paired with it for a wireless experience with Android Auto.

Motorola’s device uses Bluetooth 5.0 and supports 5 GHz Wi-Fi. The company says it tips the scales at just 31 grams, so once you plug it into the USB port of your car, you can forget it’s there.

There are no special requirements, though Motorola explains that its device should work with the majority of vehicles out there. However, if you currently own a Mitsubishi, Motorola says this brand is currently unsupported – and it’s not clear if this could change in the coming updates.

As for the Android version that your device must be running in order to connect to the adapter, Motorola hasn’t provided such information, though it says Android 11 is fully supported. In other words, if you’re already on Android 11 or Android 12, everything should work flawlessly.

The new adapter is scheduled to hit the shelves in the United States on January 30, and it will cost $89.95. This means it’ll be priced similarly to the existing products already on the market, so it’ll be interesting to see how many people give it a try.

Hate to burst your bubble, but read closer, its from an unknown company leasing the Motorola name. Probably wont have nearly as much support as the one on indigogo goes software wise, and will more than likely be abandoned after several months.

This is common in the electronics world ("rebranding"), I don't think Motorola even has a factory. I doubt HP has a section of the floor at one of their factories making dashcams like what I'm using now. Heck, Apple even outsources some development and all of their manufacturing to Asian companies like Foxconn.

I'm hedging my bets, no need to hate on something that hasn't even been released yet.

[I changed my original post to reflect the branding being the newsworthy component]

If it's on amazon, might be worth to try it for a month.

I've had the car now for 5 months. I played with AA wired a few times in the garage. I hate having my phone on when driving. Onboard gps is useful from an overview perspective. That is, if i'm in unfamiliar areas and need to bypass traffic, seeing surrounding streets.

In this area, traffic starts to build around 3pm and doesn't subside til 7 or 8. All major roads are usually clogged to some extent. Not sure how google maps or waze can help with that.

I'd expect this device too to only use 2/3's of the screen right?

Yes, it should behave exactly like the normal android auto wireless which I believe is 2/3 screen on newer 10" screens.

I've not had any great desire for android auto use recently but it would be nice to have it. I hate plugging the cable into the phone, and have been simply using Maps via speakerphone (bluetooth audio for maps hasn't worked in forever, don't know why) for the very few times I need to navigate around. $100 is a lot for minor convenience, thinking I'll only get value from it long term which is why I didn't jump on the indiegogo offering.

Apparently this thread could use a bump.

I want wireless Android Auto badly. The way the area is for your phone puts a ton of stress on the cables when they're plugged in which causes them to constantly connect/disconnect, it's really annoying. I hope this works, if it does I'll be grabbing one.
Im in Nova Scotia as well, if its cheaper to order 2 I will go in with ya on it.

I used AA and wasn't impressed. I guess it'd be nice to have Spotify find my music for me, but other than that I'll just use the builtin infotainment system and steam my music via BT.

I'm in. Will report back sometime February March with my impressions. [Amazon just updated expected ship date, sometime March]

MA1 on amazon

I bought a cable with a 90° cconnector for this. I'm still considering drilling holes to the center console tho.

Wish these things came with a usb type A pass through so I could use either AA or a flash drive.

I got the shipping update as well, sometime early next week. We're the first retail buyers so we'll be the ones doing the late round beta testing for them. lol

A person with Telluride left a positive review on Amazon so I am feeling confident!
