With the temps dipping the way they did in NY and places north, I want to hear if anyone experienced any issues in those temps. I know the car was a bit sluggish to turn over on Thanksgiving evening, it sat in driven in the cold for 2 days then was started when the temps were in the low 20s. On Friday morning it was single digit to low teens and it felt like like the battery was low but fired up. The suspension also felt stiffer in comfort mode but got better after some time of driving.

Took it out today in the rain and twice at a light when the car restarted after the Auto Stop/Start engaged, the transmission slammed so hard I thought the guy that had stopped close behind me rear ended me the first time but the second there was nothing around when it occurred. Temps today are in the upper 30s. Anyone else experience any weirdness with the car? If the transmission thing occurs again, i’m going to take it in to be checked.

The coldest temps I've driven in were probably around 20 degrees last winter. The car drove the same at those temps as it did when in the 80s and 90s.

I didn't even notice any issues from the summer tires.

This fall the lowest I've seen is 27 degrees and rainy. Still no issues from the car or different summer tires.

Coldest I've driven in do far has been about 0F. No issues so far . And, frankly, I'm not expecting any

I will say this, don't try and move the car when it has just started in cold weather and at a higher than normal idle.......It is NOT like a normal car!! It WILL surge in drive or reverse, and when you brake it WILL test the abs. I made this mistake twice already, both times I just wanted to move the car 5 feet and let it warm up, and both times I was standing on the brakes to stop it!!

Should be good in the cold and snow. I only put mine away for the winter because of the idiots on the roads here and the new salt spray stuff that rust out cars.

I’m used to how a car behaves in the cold however, the transmission slam was after driving for a while in close to 40 degree weather (nothing new there) and coming to a stop and then shutting off. Light was still red, I was just sitting when it restarted and then the transmission engaged as it would normally but it wasn’t subtle, it was hard enough to make the car feel like it was hit from behind. That’s really my main concern. It didn’t happen during the extreme cold but at temps we have had here a couple of weeks now.

Have had my Stinger out in the cold Canadian winter in temperatures as low as -25F (and even colder if you factor in the windchill) without issues

No problem here, but low was only mid 20's F. Mine lives in the garage.

Here in the Salt Lake Valley, it has been in the low 20sF for the last couple of weeks, every morning. My car starts the same way that it does in the summertime. Takes longer to get the oil above 100F, though (no kidding). With this baby, I like to use the oil temperature gauge to wait to roll out of the driveway only when I see the first indicator that the oil temp has reached 100. :)

Yeah, that's bizarre and worth getting checked out if it continues. Probably less of an issue in really cold weather, as the ISG function seems to stop working in cold weather. See below:

Condition of ISG system operation

The ISG system will operate under the following condition:
  • The driver's seat belt is fastened.
  • The driver's door and engine hood are closed.
  • The brake vacuum pressure is adequate.
  • The battery is sufficiently charged.
  • The outside temperature is more than 14°F (-10°C).
  • The outside temperature is under 95°F (35°C).
  • The engine coolant temperature is not low.

Mine works fine once the car warms up. This seems to be a transmission issue. It didn't happen today so I will keep an eye on it.

No problems starting mine at 16F, turned over just as easily as normal temps. ISG is another story, I think I will just remember to deactivate it until warmer temps return.

Perversely, today I forgot twice on starting up to turn ISG off. And sure enough the first time I pulled up to a stop the engine shut off. Go figure. It is above freezing in the daytime still.

Hi there!

Go to your dealer and tell them about the problem you’re experiencing with the Auto-Start. It’s not a transmission issue nor does it have anything to do with temperatures. My 2018 GT did the same exact thing over the summer except the problem was consistent. Literally every time I would start the car, come to a stop, and then auto-start engaged it felt like I was being hit from behind when it started back up. The feature would automatically disable itself once this happened twice in a row. When I took it to the dealer they had to order a part to fix the issue and it hasn’t been a problem since.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info! It hasn’t happened since that day but i’ll Make an appointment to have it checked.

When I drive a good mile in the cold the crash signal pops up and says my features are limited. It makes me not want the car anymore

Trash ISG forever is my solution. Can't be good for the starter, it's just another of the useless addons the car and this driver can do without. Don

Designed by a BMW guy so it's no surprize it will act like a BMW. That being said, it sounds like a technical glitch and not something inherit with the stinger by and large....However every stinger (when it is cold especially) should be warmed before driving period.

That adaptation has been incorporated with a lot of newer cars/trucks for that fuzzy warm feeling a tree hugger will get when they think they are saving the planet. When it comes to starters and such a start up at start up is enough to kill it over the long run.......Mine has been off with a slice of black zip tie since I got it, ;)

On a side note Batteries will die near the 4th to 5th year from the time it was put into service......something to think about when the temperature dips or gets too high ....batteries do not like either extreme parameters.

Forums are funny. No one posts on a thread for three years and then one day, boom! Back to life
