Stock GT rims with wider rear tire pics!

Aren’t the rear 275/35s taller than the front 245/35s? The second number is a percentage, not absolute. To match the diameter of the fronts more they should be 275/30s.

245*.35=85.75mm
275*.30=82.5mm
275*.35=96.25mm

so the rear tires are 21mm taller than the front, since it’s 2x the sidewall height difference. 285/30 are an even better match but no way they’ll fit on those stock rear rims.

....but they do look gooooooood. I know what I’m buying after I shred my OE tires, thanks to you.

I still haven't had to buy new tires yet... But judging from those photos... 285/30's would look just fine!!

How do those drive compared to the skinnier stock Michelin’s? Looks much better, I’m definitely going to size up next time around. I got lucky and found someone local selling barely used stock Stinger tires for $500 (saved me about $600 over new).
Better IMO - Slight increase to oversteer and I prefer it from stock

Very nice, and 245 on front? No issues with 275?

Yes and that's not by accident. Also it's RWD so no big deal

I've seen 285s on stock 8.5s but those guys are driving in straight lines. 285 could rip off the wheel if you're turning hard enough. be safe

After seeing my to 265 on the rear I wondered about 275 but I would never try 285

How hard are you gonna be turning? (Not trying to be an ass). I love how the 285's look.. I've had 265's on 7 inch rims running gymkhana never had problems...

No worries my dude. So in all of my research 275 is pushing the recommended limit of an 8.5” wheels. I don’t turn aggressively and originally planned to go 285 for my next set. Still might. I wanted to increase the width gradually to feel the differences it made. But I think i’ll only increase the aspect ratio now.

I’m not turning very hard (most of the time), I have no issues with the 275 and yes 285s look amazing BUT I don’t want anyone reading through this thread and jumping to 285 then ripping their tire off on a hard turn without being aware that technically, 285s are well outside the threshold of a 8.5” inch wheel. It should be said that 285 will come with some bouncing at higher cruising speeds too

Would 275/40s fit? I just ordered 2 rear 275/40/19s Nitto 555RII.

Turning isn't going to rip them off of the wheel but they will most likely degrade at a faster rate due to the sidewalls being bulged outwards more than they were designed for which could result in a blow out, even going in a straight line.

That said I've seen many people stretch tires onto wheels way wider than recommend by the manufacturer without issue, just be aware that there is a risk either way when going out of the recommend specs.

I have been running 275/30-19 in the rear all summer now. No problems, an I drive the car hard on the back roads. I dont have pics on the car but hear is what they look like mounted:

Fronts are 235/35-19, to match diameter. They are ~.5" smaller than stock if I remember correctly.

Stock 40 35

Did you keep the stock profile of 40/35 or drop to 35/30? Time to replace my tires, just was wondering as I like your look.
Whatever tire you choose, in the end, the rears must have the same tire diameter as stock, or your speedometer will be off

It's not as sensitive as you may think. I have Tires that are 3/4" larger in diameter and my speedometer is only like a 1 mph off at highway speeds. Bigger issue is keeping the front and rear diameters close (within 3% is the general safe spot) if you have AWD to avoid damaging the center diff.
