Have a concern/question for the group. Saw a utube video of a dealer trying to access the battery after it was dead. Apparently it's under the spare tire? I haven't pulled mine apart yet to look. They had to crawl in the hatch space to release the hatch from the inside. I have a GT1 with no interior cabin hatch release. Is there an alternative way to access the battery or a positive negative connection somewhere else? Just curious- with all the tech, it's only a matter of time and would like to be prepared. Thx all!

There is a boot release under the bonnet. The bonnet release is manual, so you can always open the boot if the battery is flat.

It's more then likely in the manual.

For the purposes of jumping the battery, there are connections under the hood. I guess you could use a jumper battery to supply power to the trunk release button. From a practical standpoint, the chances of a battery being so dead that it wouldn't supply sufficient power to activate a solenoid is rather remote. You should be aware of slower than normal cranking speed long before the battery needs replacing.

The video is one of the main reasons I will never buy a car that has been on the showfloor -- the salesmen (clueless) run them totally flat and significantly shorten the life of the battery.

(Didn't see the hatch release under the hood. I'll look for that in the manual.) Thanks! That would make sense since if the battery is dead, you sure need to get back there to replace it.

There is a charging point in the bonnet to give it enough power to unlock the boot.

The idiot sales people in that video who clearly knew sweet FA about the car, and yet are meant to try and sell it.

This is very interesting.Where please is this charging point and more importantly can this point be used to totally recharge a low battery by trickle charge?

I think this is the video the op is referring too.

I would assume with right hand (correct side) drive cars, it would be just on the other side.

My car has been delayed, so can't check yet.

The box stays on the right hand side too.

Would it not be that where the plus is on the plastic cover, the terminal is directly under that. So that would be where you connect the positive to give the battery the boost to start the car.

They actually addressed it during the stinger experience. If battery is dead you do this:

1) pull off key access cover on drivers door to unlock with real key embedded in remote.

2) pop hood

3) use battery access points to power and open rear hatch (powered or non powered) if needed for immediately battery replacement.

4) if not, jump start using access points under hood.

Annoying find. The seat belt chime will not stop unless you put on your seat belt. Other two Kias I’ve had will chime and then take a break. And then chime again etc. It’s annoying if you are simply moving a car around to front of house or parking lot etc.

What is worse, if the passenger unbuckles while pulling into a parking spot (car still moving), the chime will continue indefinitely EVEN if you put the car in park. Only shutting off car or the passenger getting off the seat will silence it. So “seatbelt fastened until pilot turns off seatbelt sign” required for this car.

That sounds awful. Have a photo to show what you mean? Will be carrying lots of hockey gear in the back... may need to carry a towel in the car at all times if that is the case.

You may also need that towel in case the ice melts on the rink and you have to jump in and save the Zambozi driver .

BTW, those of you with progressive lens glasses, you have to know this feature. Before being able to do thid, my head rested such that I needed to put my glasses on lower tip of nose, but now I pulled the headrest out 2 clicks and its perfect.

Just push/pull the headrest horizontally, theres a clicking spring mechanism which allows for 3 position settings.

You’re very welcome! This car has so many cool features for everyone. Another one I love is the one touch indicator where you can choose how many blinks you want, great for lane changes without having to centre the stalk after you have changed lanes

I tried opening the door and taking the seatbelt off while in drive also tried taking off seat belt and opening door and it never went into park.

Mine doesn't. I never put it in park, I just hit the 'power' button and there's no complaint/warning about shifting into park first...
