Personally it's bugging me. Doesn't match anything else on the car. Why they didn't just do gloss black is beyond me.

Now the parts in question are all plastic, upper and lower front grill, mirror caps, side vents and trim over top the windows and presumably can be removed.

Has anyone tried to have it repainted gloss black? I know there are some vinyl kits for some of the parts and the side vents can be replaced but I'm thinking more getting it all repainted.

Plus from what I have seen the black chrome on some cars can become blotchy over time.

I just looked into this. (By the way, I don't believe the window dark chrome trim is plastic.) At "Envision" (a wrap and tint place), I was told that he would not recommend wrapping them because the plastic ends and rubber side strips mean the wrap would have exposed edges, resulting in them looking "worse than your problem in six months" (my problem is very minor thus far: I'm nipping this early if I can). The recommendation was painting the trim pieces gloss black, or getting new pieces. I haven't looked into the price of a full set of six pieces yet (will enquire on my next oil change and service in c. six hundred miles).

I've got a pair of mirror caps that some time soon I'll be painting gloss black or maybe deep black chrome.
Probably also paint the side vents the same. I'm anti-chrome !

Just waiting for the weather to warm up.

Tuscani Customs sells the side vents and the mirror caps. I purchased the red mirror caps from them. OEM. I also purchased an extra set of side vents. Once I had them, I pulled off the original ones, sanded them a bit, then spray painted them gloss black and put them back on. The finish is nowhere near as glossy as the gloss black, but it looks decent. I don't have any good pics yet, but will take some after my next wash. Meanwhile I have an extra set of side vents that I may see if my local wrap shop can wrap in gloss black. I don't have the patience to do it myself. That just leaves the two front grill areas. not sure what to do with them. I think I'll see about getting them wrapped as well.

Mirrors painted but l'm not very happy with the results. Will install them anyway since I can't be bothered doing it again.

looks good. very glossy.

This mirror cap had 2 spots that the paint didn't take to and the clear coat looks slightly different between the two for some reason. I think the pressure dropped on the 2nd cap paint.

I'll look at them again soon and decide if I can live with it or start again.

Thanks for the offer. Im in the Southern suburbs of Sydney but I'll have a look at them again in the next couple of days and will decide.

Like Merlin said, 6 feet away, might look OK.

Cheers.

Nicks from rocks will make marks that visible. My driver's side mirror cup has several "wounds" in it, each one about the same size as your painting flaws: but the over all appearance still looks great from "six feet away". :)

I sprayed mine with Superwrap. They have a gloss black that is peelable like plasti-dip but better. 1 year in and holding up nicely.

VERY nice!

Looked at my mirror caps last night and the finish is going to drive me nuts (it actually looks worse now for some reason) so it's time to start sanding:confused:

Wow! That's the way to do it!

I haven't heard of Superwrap, but I've used Plasti-dip & been happy with the results. How is the Superwrap better?

Their gloss finishes are 100x better than plast-dip + glossifier. It looks identical to glossy spray paint as it's smooth and not textured but isn't permanent. Any overspray can be cleaned off with a clay bar.

I was also able to apply a ceramic coating over top, something i wouldn't even attempt with plasti-dip due to its more porous finish.

A similar product to SuperWrap is HyperDip. I haven't tried it yet but i've seen results online and read reviews that it's as good or even better.
