Hello my name is Tonya.
I have a 2018 KIA Stinger GT2 CromeRed
I have a a couple things I would like to chat about and get some opinions about.
One of them is the OEM Michelin Tires issue especially the Front Tires.
The other is an issue about the stop/start function. It has been defective since day one and every dealership I've taken it to has not been able to "Replicate the problem."
so I know this is an introduction page but I look forward to getting all your feedback soon.

Welcome to the hive!

The Start / Stop is a common question, and confusing, it has a "list" of about 12 conditions that need to be met in order for it to stop the engine, A/C on? won't turn off, Fan up high, won't turn off, Battery below a certain point, won't turn off, too cold outside? won't turn off, etc...

What tires did your come with? they are not the same from region to region

Congrats and welcome!!
What’s the issue with the tires?

Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up. I’m glad you found us! What did the Stinger replace for you?

Howdy. I have no idea what a "Michelin issue" is. You need to provide more information.

The ISG is finicky at best of times; often not being engaged at all, even for months on end. The parameters for it to function are many: but mainly the most common inhibiting factor is a lack of necessary battery charge. Lots of stop and go driving and short jaunts/trips/errands, etc., will likely not keep the battery up to full charge, and ISG seems to require a fully charged battery.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Last car didn't have this ISG nonsense. Trying to get into the habit of hitting the start button then immediately the disable isg button.

Congrats and welcome!!

The front original tires were Mich-Pilot sport S3. I replaced them maybe a year ago with the exact same tires( Mich-Pilot Sport S3) The reason for the new tires @16.5K miles was a passenger side front tire blow out. I replaced both front tires without question. These tires are staggered so of course no rotation as you all know :-) So naturally I replaced both tires at the same time. so fast forward present day and maybe 15K on the tires. The problem is the outer tread was coming apart at the seams with less than 15,000 miles on them. I was told its "normal" wear and tear and was due to the tires getting hot and cornering too fast. basically the tech asked me what I was doing? I DO NOT drive crazy like that. I'm not innocent of course I get on it from time to time this car is so much fun! But I most certainly am not beating it to death. I fully understand that they are sports tires and will be gone through much faster than regular tires. But twice 15K or less and Not an aggressive drive. Anyway I just replaced the front tires again (still with awesome thread on them) with the Mich-Pilot Sport AS4 tires. The S3 tires are currently on National back order.

What is this S3 tire? Pilot Sport A/S 3+ maybe? The A/S 4 is supposed to be the update to the A/S 3+.

I actually really dislike the stop/start function. I would love to completely disable it. I don't think you can? So this is my issues with it. 1st its on every time you start your car and I have to manually turn it off every single time. I wouldn't mind the feature one bit if it didn't drive me crazy. What happens is if I forget to turn it off I will be sitting at a stop sign or redlight.. When it feels like it the car will turn off like its supposed to. But The problem is when I take my foot off the brake it does Not Restart. I have to put it in park with foot back on break and push the start/stop button to restart the car. So basically I completely stall out...
Meanwhile I've have people really aggravated behind me honking horns.

hmm. I have 40K on my fronts and I drive my car pretty hard.

I suspect an alignment issue or a problem with the tire itself. There seems to have been a rash of recent posts here and on facebook with tires wearing out in the outer shoulder area, but good luck getting Michelin to admit to that.

edit:
that's definitely not typical ISG behavior. There's a few ways to deal with it, from low tech (jam a piece of paper/plastic in there to permanently hold the button down), to more high-tech (a guy on Facebook sells a module that disables it on startup).

Oh that’s annoying af. It sounds like the battery voltage level is below the threshold for ISG to function properly

I've not heard before of having to manually restart the engine. Something is whacked for sure. This should just increase your determination to push the ISG button OFF as the first thing you do after starting the engine: that's what I do (99% of the time anyway :P).

Um, there's something seriously wrong with your car.

The stop/start doesn't bother me at all, I find it doesn't intrude. If for some reason I don't want it doing that on a particular stop, removing my foot a bit from the brake starts the engine right back up. I really do not find this intrusive.

What I do not like is the stop/start with the auto-hold. IME, using both of these at once does not work well. It's too much for the car to overcome both the auto-hold AND stop/start from a dead stop with the engine off. It's like I'm fine with either, but not both. I like auto-hold in some situations, but if I'm using it, I don't want the engine shutting off in that situation. But since we have adaptive cruise control, as long as I engage the cruise it's usually fine, since that will stop the car. It's when you're first in line, etc.

When it's 100 degrees outside and the AC turns into a hair dryer because of the stupid ISG I draw the line.

Glad my Stinger never came with the ISG. Waste of time I believe with the amount of fuel you would be saving. If you wanted to save on fuel, why buy a Stinger. Welcome to the forum.

^^So ISG is an improvement (depending on your perspective) to later model years?

IMHO the best thing is to just make sure it is always off. I installed this module https://sharkracing.com/isg-and-auto-hold-memory-module-various-applications/ from Shark Racing. Install was simple and works perfectly. I highly recommend it.

I just noticed this comment
So Before the Kia Stinger I had a Kia Cadenza Special White addition. The car was pearl white with white napa leather interior. On the showroom floor it had a pretty close price tag as the Stinger ($$ close to the top of the line stinger)
So
My previous car the Cadenza and the Stinger both kind of fell into my lap.
I love both cars!
