Kia Stinger Rear Spoiler Discussion

Thanks for posting, I forgot about this thread and I want to provide a status update.

All Kia stinger models have the exact same rear deck lid dimensions so any spoiler from any trim and year would go on. I wouldn’t think Kia would manufacture a different rear hatch with slightly offset bolt holes to accommodate a different deck lid aka “spoiler” but until someone gets one and disassembles it we won’t know.

FWIW… I can’t even get a regular Spoiler from Kia let alone a scorpion one! Standard one is “Discontinued” as per dealer, or “one back order” with all the online sites, I’ve tried many.

After trying to sand and prime and Bondo and paint and sand and vinyl wrap mine… I gave up. I turned to eBay and lo and behold, a wrecked white Kia stinger in Ireland that a guy was parting out and I got the spoiler aka rear deck lid! It was from a 2018 2.0T. Took five weeks to ship get to the US but it’s now on my car!!

Also it is pretty easy to get this piece off. Take off plastic panels underneath the hatch, takeoff the little side bumper things that have torx bolts on them, remove seven nuts that hold the rear deck lid down, use a heat gun on the side by the glass to break the adhesion of the double-sided tape, peel off.

My 4 month long spoiler debacle has come to an end… Now I have the M&S type G black unpainted spoiler and it’s a lovely accent to the white car.
Looks good. Glad you were able to find a replacement.

Got my Sportwing/Dawn Enterprises color-matched spoiler on.

Got my Sportwing/Dawn Enterprises color-matched spoiler on.
Wow it’s an excellent Spoiler and looks great color matched. Man I wanted federation orange so bad, the GTS is such a cool car but I really wanted the GT2 features. If they made a GTS based off of the GT2 features… I’d be driving an orange one right now.

Great color, great spoiler sir

Thanks was suuuper leary to purchase because I was worried about it matching, but it does and the paint quality is superb.

Then I was sorta sketched that it's $147 shipped. But it shipped! And I got it, and I was thoroughly impressed with Dawn Enterprises!

Can you take a few other pics at diff angles? I’m very intrigued by this style I hadn’t seen anything like it yet

It’s no longer available on Amazon. I have that one on my HCR. The color match wasn’t perfect and I was going to send it back but then saw I couldn’t get another so close enough.

Anybody else have issues with their M&S spoiler not staying on??? Had it vinyl wrapped last year, it started to come off, had it re-wrapped by the same shop (they did it for free this time) just last Friday. Looked excellent, until I saw it later that day. The 3M tape started to detach AGAIN, wtf??? Can the 3M tape not stand up to heat? Car sits out in the hot sun, basically most of the day. Should I just shoot some plastic trim adhesive underneath it? Any other ideas?

This is not happened to me, in fact it feels like I’d never be able to get it off if I tried. Here’s a couple of suggestions to help get it stick long term:

*Use 3M’s strongest adhesive, it’s powerful stuff and an industry standard
*clean ALL wax off of the car, clay bar if if you must, it has to be a pristine surface
*remove a few inches of the tape film coating from each side of the spoiler and pull it out so that when you place the spoiler on the car, you can pull the film away.
*do the top side of the trunk first as it’s the most noticeable if it’s not sitting flush.
*Line it up, press down on the ends so the Spoiler is in the correct positioning, and press down on the spoiler while you pull the film away
*don’t do it the commonly mistaken way which is to pull all of the film off then try to place it down in one shot
*once all the films away the spoiler should be stuck in place exactly where you wanted it and pressed into place, shouldn’t be going anywhere

Good luck. Essentially do NOT do what this guy in video does which is remove al tape in advance!! Pull remove of the film off, get a tail, make sure it’s accessible to pull, press down AND pull it away it will work this way.

There was a good vid (obviously not the one in your post) somewhere on youtube on how to install and it included peeling away the edges of the tap to pull the backing while the spoiler is on place. It worked out pretty well just like in the vid. I was mostly concerned about the bottom edge, as this seemed like it might be very sensitive and easy to have warped, but again, went on well. I would not recommend getting the biggest/baddest tape out there, thicker tapes, both in thickness and width, are going to be much harder to pull the tape away from while it's under the hood. The tape that came with the M&S is great for the bottom lip and sides, but yeah maybe the top could be a little wider, but I used some better 3M outdoor tape and it was on the edge of what I'd consider acceptable/easy to work with.

It's my understanding that double sided tape like this kind of turns to a hardened epoxy after a while?

the tape is fine to use all around. The meeting surface it’s not as wide as you think, it’s a bit hollow inside of the spoiler. The actual part that contacts the rear deck lid is quite small hence the very small tape.

The bad ass stuff is fine to use, you do want it to stick on there indefinitely and not fall off. Outdoor rated = high strength, same stuff really (please correct me if I’m wrong and they’re two products).

If you ever want to get it off one day, use a heat gun on low take your time be patient and even the bad ass stuff will come off just fine. The fishing line technique also works incredibly well. Fish the line under the object but above the tape on the car and work the object off, like when de-badging.

Anyone know which carbon fiber spoiler is on this stinger? I like the minimal look and doesn't seem to stick up too high.

The closest I have found is the one by Maxton design but its not real carbon fiber. In the comments of the video one dude claimed to be the owner and says that the company that made the spoiler no longer makes them. Anyone know what company they are taking about?

I'm looking to find the black gloss side door striping with the letters GTS as shown on the Orange Stinger video - can someone confirm where I can source this ? thanks Joe
