Kia Stinger Rear Spoiler Discussion

Question if anyone can provide an answer - got a M&S Type S lookalike (off Amazon actually, came prepainted) lip spoiler. From what I've seen, the Type S lines up with the bottom edge of the rear deck but putting this one on for sizing, it doesn't seem to line up flush to the bottom edge (so that I can see a line of the original deck under the spoiler). I haven't tried placing it down without the adhesive, but wondering if anyone can let me know if this is how the Type S looks before adhering down. The Amazon seller actually has the M&S photos as their product photo, just cropped, and they replied that it should sit flush once stuck down but it doesn't appear that it can and I'm hesitant to put down the adhesive to try it out.

I beg to differ but you are entitled to your opinion. Imo, the back of the Stinger is much improved and doesn't look as "naked" to me. It enhances the rear without going overboard. I love spoilers, hell I even have one on my Ford Lightning, which I feel is one of the few trucks that looks better with a spoiler. They're all for show and looks on most cars anyways so hey, why not?

I really haven't seen too many larger wings on a Stinger. I've seen a couple on the web but most are not that big. You want a big STI type wing?
I agree as well and order the MS Type G. It just adds just a tad bit more life to the exterior of the car. A larger wing would just be odd given that the rear view mirror is already small as is. I believe it is a great addition to the car

Double side tape trick - peel of a tiny bit of the adhesive protective film off maybe an inch or two, press down on item to be taped, pull film away. Let’s you expose the tape slowly for repositioning without peeling it off completely and potentially being “stuck” with the placement, pun intended.

I’m sure it’ll lay down fine. Do the top part flush and of the back that curls over the deck lid isn’t as flush it won’t be as noticeable as it would be on top.

I have the M&S S type & it is a “U” type fit around the deck lidA45804FD-168C-4134-BABA-406028A5AF2A.webp

Wow, fastest reply ever award right there, thx. I really like the CF look too, I’m just afraid that with so much stock gloss black + a CF deck lid it would look out of place until I added more carbon fiber goodies. Looking to do just spoiler for the time being.

I can score an OEM decklid 300 shipped but it’s not painted. I could then get my spoiler of choice (I’m digging the duckbill ‘G’ type) and get them both color matched. Decisions decisions…
For what its worth i juat installed an ARK c-fx duckbill decklid. My post is in the what did you do to your stinger today.

I ended up going with the m&s type G. It took me some time, but I repaired my trunk piece aka rear deck lid with bondo and some filler primer. Ordered some satin black vinyl wrap and will post up some pics when completed.

On a related note, I can’t order a new deck lid they’re on national back order apparently - part # 87210-J5000, hence the repair to mine instead. Lotta filling, sanding, priming, sanding high spots filling low etc., I’m not a body guy but came out quite well if I do say so.

there are a few weird spots on the back end from over sanding but it’ll be covered by the spoiler so that’s fine.

I didn't read the whole thread so sorry if you've answered already but what happened?

Just a heads up, salvage/wrecked part outs have them for cheap. Some ever have the entire assembly with the hatch n such.

Best of luck

Yea it’s a long thread I’m on page like 20-something. My hatch opened automatically (I had it enabled) when I walked past the car in the garage. I was distracted by wife kids life etc., it opened and I knew it yet still drove out of the garage like a dumbass. Trunk was fully opened, reversed and cruuuunnnnch… managed to just hit garage door and crack the deck lid.

lots of bondo sanding and priming later I’m ready for a vinyl wrap and then the spoiler.

At least no glass

Yes very fortunate! Open your trunk all the way and you will see that the rear deck lid portion of the trunk is up maybe 3 inches higher than the metal part of the trunk, it just got that. It didn’t hit the tail lights, the trunk or the glass…

if anything this gave me a project to do because now I will vinyl wrap it. I don’t think I would’ve done that without a bit of a reason to do so, I’m bland with styling. I’m more of a mechanical modification kind of guy than aesthetics.

the keep it simple theory is not a bad thing when it comes to builds. Your comment "it looks good on someone else's car but not mine" rings true. There are tons of rides that have a bunch done that i like. I just cant see them on mine. It definitely all comes down to being happy whe you look at your ride when you walk away after you park. Takes me a while to pull the trigger on mods, and i still second guess myself.

Happens all the time to me as well. Sometimes you look at things and go “wow that looks awesome” but it’s more about appreciating the artistic expression vs wanting to express it for yourself.

My sister is an artist and art teacher; she has fantastic abilities to see a finished product in her mind before it even gets started. She even designed her kitchen remodel on paper with pencil Freeform better than her contractor did and he thought she did a great job.

Me? I can’t draw stick figure LOL. I’ve never added tinted windows on any cars, no body panel mods or accents, no vinyl wrapping or any decals whatsoever. Imagine me with my first real nice car smashing my spoiler, now I have to fix it out of necessity. Wouldn’t have done it on my own but I’m hoping it comes out nice.

Hey if the garage door is messed up, don't try to DIY fix them. They have alot of energy stored in their springs.

Be safe n call a tech.

Door is fine, it just grazed the spoiler, all good. Never had to mess with door springs before, and it’s probably like the giant version of dealing with brake drum springs. I hate brake drums

Sorry if this has been covered; tried sifting thru the posts...
Can you buy the Scorpion rear spoiler and put it on a 2020 Stinger Gt Limited?

The body's are basically the same are they not? I'm guessing that the spoiler is bolted on though so you'd probably have to drill holes to attach it. I think it looks like something you'd bolt on a 90s civic but if you like, that's all that matters.

Thanks. I thought I saw a post somewhere that said where u could get the spoiler, but not sure. Something tells me that it referenced another car....audi or genesis, that it was the similar one

Thanks for posting, I forgot about this thread and I want to provide a status update.

All Kia stinger models have the exact same rear deck lid dimensions so any spoiler from any trim and year would go on. I wouldn’t think Kia would manufacture a different rear hatch with slightly offset bolt holes to accommodate a different deck lid aka “spoiler” but until someone gets one and disassembles it we won’t know.

FWIW… I can’t even get a regular Spoiler from Kia let alone a scorpion one! Standard one is “Discontinued” as per dealer, or “one back order” with all the online sites, I’ve tried many.

After trying to sand and prime and Bondo and paint and sand and vinyl wrap mine… I gave up. I turned to eBay and lo and behold, a wrecked white Kia stinger in Ireland that a guy was parting out and I got the spoiler aka rear deck lid! It was from a 2018 2.0T. Took five weeks to ship get to the US but it’s now on my car!!

Also it is pretty easy to get this piece off. Take off plastic panels underneath the hatch, takeoff the little side bumper things that have torx bolts on them, remove seven nuts that hold the rear deck lid down, use a heat gun on the side by the glass to break the adhesion of the double-sided tape, peel off.

My 4 month long spoiler debacle has come to an end… Now I have the M&S type G black unpainted spoiler and it’s a lovely accent to the white car.
