Hard downshift transmission

I am hitting brick walls here. I've tried 2 dealers now and have made specific requests to reset the TCM adaptives, but both times they have come back and said that they cannot reset it if there is not an error of some sort when the scan tool is hooked up. I'm thinking of trying a random auto shop next.

Have you tried doing the reset I mentioned on page 2?

I did do the N-D-N-R one which seemed to help slightly with the downshifts on comfort and eco, did not seem to adjust anything in sport.

Should you do the KGIS reset with the car in SPORT mode??

Noticing the same thing. Car only has 1k on it. It’s quite abrupt in sport mode, still an issue in comfort and not at all really in eco (have coasting on).

I know this thread has been a bit silent for awhile, but I would like to note this is still an issue with the 2022s. I have 1350 miles on mine and am bringing to the dealer in two weeks to reset the adaptives for my TCM and possibly my ECU.

So... shifting hard? Low rpm range?

when coming to a stop with just gradual braking or even no braking at all, the 3-2 and 2-1 downshifts with jerk the the whole car. Sport is the worst but it can be felt in comfort too.

I do personally like a car that drops gears for me. But yea, I can't help, but can attest to hard upshifts between 2k and 3k (if your not driving hard into the next gear) and hard downshifts in general. I enjoy it. Also try using manual mode (only way I drive) so at least you can hold that gear way down to 1500rpm before the downshift happens. If it shakes and jolts even at such a low rpm my first guess would be torque converter fluid levels. But I'm no pro :)

If im in manual mode i can basically completely prevent it from happening even if i down shift at almost the same rpm. My car only has hard upshifts in sport mode and thats to be expected.

Sounds to me *at a glance* that the tranny may have learned to well your driving habits (not trying to say anything bad) but but but maybe your normal behavior gave the tcu the wrong idea lol

Id have to agree, but i usually drive like a total grandma i havent even hit a back road with it yet. I did buy it with 20miles on it though so i wonder if those first 20 were rough or something.

I highly doubt the first 20 were so severe that it made the transmission ruff... but perhaps over time and a few thousand miles it will even out a bit. Next drive I do I will observe the automatic downshifts and get back to this thread

Yeah test it out and see what your car does. Just come to a slow stop and see if the downshifts jerk the car. You can try it w/o braking to just go from like 35mph-0. Others say its smooth as butter and mine is nowhere even close. I have to adjust my braking or else it jerks even harder.

You mean come to a slow stop!? Never lol. Just playin. I drive big ups trucks all day so I usually come to a stop real smooth. I'll just let the car do its thing and get back to yah

Sorry I didn't get back right away but I have noticed very few hard natural downshihts while driving the various modes. Now the question is, are they hard for you and not for me? That I can't answer......

So im now at 1500 miles and my downshifts in comfort mode are getting better! IDK if the trans is relearning or what but ive noticed a difference. Sport mode it does it, but im just thankful and can drive in comfort and come to a normal stop. Im still going to ask Kia to reset the adaptives though to see what happens.
