This is going to be long, so TLDR: found a transmission leak. Transmission was replaced under warranty and they gave me a loaner car. Stinger currently has a coolant leak and is back at the dealership.

Alright now the full story of how it went/is going dealing with Kia for a major warranty repair, for anyone else who will unfortunately have to do the same.

While I was changing my oil at 30,000 miles, I noticed a pretty significant transmission fluid leak appearing to be coming from the rear main seal.

Dec 22: Took the car into my local Kia dealer near Pittsburgh to have the leaked looked at, so Kia could decide what to do. I was informed that the tech who looked at the car confirmed that its leaking, and opened a techline case. Basically a warranty case with Kia. I was instructed to make an appointment after the holidays to follow up and have "further diagnostics" done so Kia could decide what to do. Also asked them to order the parts for the HECU recall.

Jan 3: talked to the service manager who set me up with an appointment on Jan 12th at 9am. I was under the impression that they would gather the info needed, and maybe check for a tune/any mods that might have caused the leak.

Jan 12: I got there and was told they would need to drop the engine to do their further diagnostics. They would send the info to kia who would approve the repair and only then would I be able to get a loaner car, This sounded pretty ridiculous to me because the job is half way done at that point. So I was told I could drop it off any day, any time.

Later that day, I returned with a ride home to drop off the car. At this point, I was under the impression that they'd be doing what they said, dropping the engine. Along with state inspection and the HECU recall, for which the parts had arrived.

Jan 14: Got a call informing me that they will be replacing the transmission. This is great because I was worried about any damage that may have been caused from low fluid. I was told I can pick the car up and they will call me when all of the parts arrive.

Went to pick up the car. They did the state inspection and the HECU recall fix. Engine and transmission were never touched. Not sure what happened to the "further diagnostics" they were going to do, but whatever. It's getting fixed. That's all I care about. I was also told a loaner car has been approved and they will be ready with one when I drop off the car, and I will be able to keep it for the length of the repair. The transmission replacement should take 2 or 3 days.

Jan 19: got a call. Parts were in. Made an apt fot the 27th. A loaner was approved from enterprise.

Jan 27: Dropped the car off. Someone from enterprise picked me up in the loner. Drove me back to enterprise where we did paperwork, and I went on my way.

Jan 30: got a call that the car was done. Went to pick it up. Let it warm up in the parking lot before leaving. All seemed fine. Got about 10 minutes away and the car starts overheating and steam is coming from the engine bay. Coolant leak. Great. Had to wait 2 and a half hours for a tow truck. Now the car is back at the dealership and won’t be touched again until Monday. Let’s hope they get it right this time. I had a feeling something wouldn’t be right when I got it back.

Yikes. I think deep down, this is most of our fears - the techs at Kia have never worked on a Stinger before, and have no clue how to fix it.

My lease is coming up in 4 months, and while I love the car, this kind of nightmare situation has me wondering if I should just bite the bullet and maybe get a BMW or S3 or something..

Lmfao I am not at all surprised. I learned first-hand just how incompetent the technicians (or for that matter almost everyone) at the Kia dealerships are. I have been to three Kia dealerships, two in Florida and one in New York, and my goodness are they bad.

Please keep us updated. I think this is the third transmission issue posted on this thread in the last week. Sounds like terrible communication and lack of even trying on their part.

Exactly what I saw first hand with my brake problems. It took them five attempts over the course of six months to fix my issue. Complete waste of my time on a brand new car with less than 3000 miles on the odometer. I feel like a clown since I chose to finance and not lease this vehicle since I wanted to keep it for at least ten years. The fact that I have had to go this many times for a warranty issue in less than half a year of ownership on a $40k+ MSRP vehicle is beyond me. I should have gone with the CPO S4 or CPO 440ix if I knew I would spend this much time at dealerships or talking to Kia corporate.

I know what you mean. My lease ends in may of next year so I still have a while to go. I love the car, but I’m starting to think about letting it go and getting something else. Mustang GT, Camaro SS, C6 or C7 corvette, or.... who knows what I’ll want by then

Will do. My dealership has been pretty good other than this whole scenario, but I had a feeling try would screw this up. I don’t have a ton of confidence in a Kia dealership replacing the transmission on my $40k+ car when they spend the majority of their time changing the oil on economy cars

^ My thoughts exactly and my first-hand experience with my braking system lmfao

Good luck!

Get a c7 btw... it's the most exotic looking out of the four cars you listed plus the fastest stock for stock... I drove a c7 z51 (auto-coupe) and was blown away with the feel and performance of that vehicle... amazing car... unfortunately I needed a vehicle with a lot more storage space and easier to get in/out of for my older parents... :)

Yikes. Sorry to hear that. On the bright side, At least they didn’t crumple your side skirts while they were at it!

My strategy with this car is to avoid the dealership. So far so good. Pretty tough to do that with a transmission leak though. Did you consider a warranty approved shop?

I’ve always worried about the skirts too. I’ve seen that way too many times on here. They seem to be pretty careful with it. They even told me they couldn’t do my alignment because my lowered car would scrape on their alignment rack. I avoid the dealer too. Maintenance is done by me, that way I know it’s done right

I figured I’d just get it done through the dealership because it would be the easiest, and most direct route to getting it fixed.

That went well, other than loosening up a coolant line somewhere. They'll find it and fix it and you'll be good for 100K miles.

hehehehe........transmission??????? how about an entire engine!!!! I must be the luckiest Stinger owner with a "fairly" good dealer.....

Had to have my engine replaced (2.0 mind you) and dealer had the car for little over a month. Got a loaner right away..... (2021 Forte). Called and i picked it up. They opened the hood and showed me what was replaced (from an external POV) and what was not....didn't think they had to do that but they did. Took car home and new engine ran better than when I bought it new less than 2yrs ago.

Next day on the way to work, floored it and POOF!!! No boost...... pulled over and called them immediately and they had me "limp" the car back to the dealer. Charge pipe hose clamp was not on properly lost all boost. Gave me the same loaner car to drive to work and had the car for a couple of hours. Called me and said it was ready. Picked it up and have had no further issues since. All service done at this same dealership. Guess I am lucky.....

@MerlintheMad i hope so! Should be. Trouble free or not, I am leaning toward letting the car go at the end of the lease. But maybe not. Every time I look at it, I fall in love with it again. Time will tell

@monusa crazy how much trouble a hose clamp can cause. I figure that’s what happened with mine. They didn’t tighten down a hose clamp somewhere and once the cooling system built up some pressure, it started spraying.

An update:

The car is ready to be picked up. Service Advisor said the tech found a loose hose (duh) and one of the coolant outlets needed reformed. Car was ran and pressure tested for 45 minutes and its good. I'll be picking it up soon. Hopefully for the last time.

One additional note: When I bought the car, it came with a card with a number for the Stinger Special Services (or whatever they call it) and 24 HOUR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. Called that number when i needed a tow and an automated woman kindly told me to go fu.... she said they were closed and the call ended. Luckily I have AAA. So for anyone thinking they can rely on that for 24 hour roadside assistance.... don't.

AAA towed mine as well but I was between a rock and a hard place so I didn't even call Kia first. Wanted to make sure they saw my (new-ish) car on the back of a tow truck.

There was quite a viewing party when the tow truck arrived at the dealership with my car. Lots of wide eyes watching my lowered car get within millimeters of scraping. Me, sweating in when it was below freezing. Car seems good now. Drove for about an hour with no problem.

Glad to hear/read!!! I thought I would blow a fuse waiting over a month to get my car back. When the tow truck pulled in the dealer lot, it had to travel part of the way past the main showroom and it got serious real quick!!!! About 4 sales folks came out and there were a couple of service people who came out of the service office.....

You would have thought the circus had come to town.....LOL. When i got out of my daughter's car (she took me there), couple of the sales guys asked if it was my stinger and what happened and my response was: "yes, but don't ask"......was not trying to be an A**hole but I was pissed.....

Anyone know how to remove coolant stains . I tried rubbing alcohol but it did nothing there are droplets everywhere under the hood but this what’s really bothering me

Try a good APC, (All Purpose Cleaner) or Simple Green, Castrol Super Clean, etc... might need to soak in for a couple of minutes

This stuff. You'll never use another product on your engine bay. It's a degreasing detergent so soak it with the product, let it sit for a minute and then rinse it off with a light stream of water (not a pressure washer). Your engine bay will look brand new. Be mindful of course of any electronics (cover them with a bag) and try not to douse the engine in water.

No scrubbing, no brushes, just apply and rinse.

Back again with more news. Coolant is still leaking. Slowly, but it’s leaking. My reservoir keeps going empty. I can hear the coolant sloshing around when I turn or accelerate. I keep cleaning the engine bay and finding new splashes after I drive. Car still smells like coolant. Pulled it in the garage and I can hear it dripping. So I’ll be taking it back to the dealership, yet again, tomorrow. Getting pretty tired of this.

Also, the stain they left on my cover panel in the engine bay would not come off until I used brake cleaner, which I didn’t want to have to do. Tried rubbing alcohol, Awesome APC, simple green, WD-40, more coolant for the hell of it, and a wire brush. Did nothing. Had to spray brake cleaner on rag and quickly wipe it before it melted the plastic.

Did you leave your intakes on when you went to the dealership to have it warrantied?
