Why did you choose stinger vs G70

Obviously you are going to get more votes for the Stinger on this forum and if you head over to the G70 forum, you'll get more votes for the G70. The Stinger has more storage and rear seat room (although less than most believe). The G70 has better handling, a nicer interior and is lighter trim for trim. There is a tendency to exaggerate the drawbacks to the G70 over here for some reason but the bottom line is that they are both great cars that satisfy different tastes. Looks are subjective. I like both of them.

Test drive them and decide what you want. My thought is that being on the younger side, you may steer towards the Stinger... especially if you can get it cheaper.

Is Luxury Worth It: 2019 Kia Stinger vs. 2019 Genesis G70

If you are mostly interrested in performance at reasonable price and do not need the space or GT caracteristics you might want to look for a Golf R or Audi S3. Those are really tuner cars and very easy to beat a Stinger / G70 with a modded R / S3 because of the much quicker transmission and better launch.

If you plan to buy new and are willing to wait the new Stinger Refresh will pack LSD in all trims, better interior, variable exhaust and few HP more. I would say that will the refresh to Stinger interior is now in the same league as the G70. Refresh G70 is mostly exterior refresh and the refreshed Stinger is mostly rear and interior refresh.

My last 3 cars were Genesis, 2012 RSpec , 2014 Equus , these had the V8 420HP great engine. Then 2018 G80 Sport 365HP Turbo .
I loved these cars, but the lease prices went crazy on Genesis. I drove the G70, but wasn't impressed. I ended up with a 2020 2.0 and I couldn't be happier. After having the 365 in the G80 Sport, I'm very happy with the 2.0. I can't imagine the GT with that engine. Yes, I gave up some luxury and features , but couldn't be happier with the car and my lease payment!

My first Stinger was before the G70 came out and the G80 Sport was my other choice but driving both back to back, the Stinger won out, for me. I did check out the G70 after wrecking the Stinger, while nicer and quieter on the inside, it lacks rear space and trunk room, plus the suspension felt much harsher. Looking back, that might have been due to the tires being over inflated as I have driven others since that one and they don't feel that way. The Genesis guys were willing to play ball and with low inventory at the time, they thought I would just go for their scalper price. I got a killer deal on the first Stinger and a decent one on the second.

At your age, if you are into go fast, the G70 has the better setup from factory, compared to the Stinger. You can find tunes for both these day that can get you faster however, you are going to need to spend some dough if you want to go against a purpose tuned track car. Genesis hasn't put out a competition for those cars yet, who knows if they every will, with CUV/SUV being the new in thing, they are focusing on the luxury aspect instead of sporty with their new vehicle launch. For me it was the Stinger again, it has better looks, has more space for passenger and luggage and a better deal than the G70. The one mod I installed, the Mando control unit for the adjustable suspension (also works on the G70), has allowed me to tweak the suspension fo different types of driving situations. I'm not racing folks but this makes the car handle better in high speed driving and corner carving.

The general consensus here is that most of us got the Stinger for its looks, space and price. The sporty driving part depends on who you are and how far you are willing to go with mods to get more from the Stinger. You have to decide which is the better choice for you.

Yeah, the S3 is fast off the line because the LC/trans programming. It's 5-60 and 30-50 are ok but not as good as the Stinger. With ECU tuning becoming available, the Stinger/G70s are getting much quicker by removing torque limits and improving LC, so I see that changing now.

Yes of course as the platform gets more mature it will get better but I was referring to overall performance and not just acceleration. S3 being 400-500 pounds less vs G70 3.3t make it more agile as well...

also there is a new Golf R on its way.

for my criteria the Stinger still win but really depends on OP priorities.

Miata Is Always The Answer.

You should go with the choice of car that you feel it will achieve your expectations, wether is impressing others or your self every time you open garage door and sit in your car.
Me personally is about the last thing, every time I open garage and sit in my car, couldn't care less what anyone ellse thinks!

I'm only owning Stinger for month n a half.
Coming from long line off German cars including, Mercedes-benz E 300, Audi A4 and VW passat R I can tell you Stinger is on par with the lot in terms off quality not to mention that stinger tech is as good as Germans

In terms of standing out from the pack, with Germans you want stand out as they are everywhere and Stiner is not ... its real eye catcher in every way

From mooding point off view , Stinger obviously has endless options in that department with exterior , interior and performance.

Just compare Audi A5 S 2021 with Stinger 3.3 tt 2021
Price difference about $40 grand AUD , performance difference A5 S just a tiny bit ahead.
You put in 6-7 grand on performance and you will be betting A5S and still over 30 grand in your pocket .
What it all comes to is the badge , is it bother you that is Kia and not Germans?

Bottom line is your happiness with the purchase and feeling you left afterwards.
Best answer is test drive any car on your list and get the feel for them and than make your decision.
Just my opinion and my way off choosing what to buy for my self.

For me it was two factors. I do think it looks way better than g70. And secondly it is a lot more practical with the hatch.

Travis, You said it was easier to swap out the snorkels on you Stinger than the G70. What did you swap your intake for? I was looking at the K&N cold air intake kit.
I left my intake stock. The factory airbox acts as a “ram air” inlet only with the sealed factory airbox. The snorkels save you $350+ because you don’t have to buy an aftermarket intake.

How important is LSD (Limited Slip Differential)? Only the GT limited comes with LSD (Limited Slip Differential).
My Stinger has the LSD. It said so on the sticker. It is supposed to help at the drag strip but I am not so certain it always does. When the tires cut loose it does some weird things that are really hard to control. I almost put mine in the wall.

Don’t bother with RWD. It isn’t worth it. AWD is better for going fast in the Stinger. That is coming from a RWD guy that has MASSIVE traction issues even without a tune.

I got the Stinger for the hatch and the rear seat. The G70 is a better car overall. Its faster, lighter, has a better interior and is more refined with a better suspension and less squeaks and rattles. I need a third car and I really like the new G70 facelift. I am definitely considering it but I think I'm probably going to get a used F80 M3 instead.

I haven’t seen any concrete evidence that the G70 is actually faster. I know it is supposed to be lighter but I haven’t seen any evidence that it is faster.

The Stinger and G70 both have 4.4 listed as their fastest possible 0-60 mph. However, the fastest 1/4 mile time for the Stinger was 12.9. The fastest one listed for the G70 is 13.0.

There are plenty of faster stock Stingers on dragy as well.

Cmon dude, even their official times from Genesis and Kia say it is. It's not hard to find. If for some reason you don't believe that then it's common sense. Same engine and transmission and one weighs alot less. I love the Stinger but it's a tad slower.

Check the magazines. The fastest Stinger and G70 are both 4.4 0-60 mph with a 1 foot rollout according to Car & Driver. I did a 4.3 with 1 foot rollout with mine completely and totally stock with 87 Octane gas. I also did a 12.96 1/4 mile with mine totally 100% stock.

I haven’t seen any real evidence that stock G70s are actually faster. You know the weight difference is only 70 pounds right? That is a difference but not a huge difference. The driver’s weight and how much fuel are in the tank could easily make up that weight difference.

I think the weight difference between the two is negligible at best.

Definitely negligable.... until you take them to a track, then the G70 really spanks the Stinger.

Cool. The G70 is still the quicker car. In a straight line and on a track. It's really not that big of a deal.

Well from most videos it shows the G70 being faster in the quarter mile. Also I believe the stinger is around 300-400 lbs heavier.

I also believe that the G70 is slightly faster but they do not have 300-400lbs difference if you compare similar trims.

In highest trims / weight:
  • G70 3.3T Sport AWD is about 4004 lbs
  • Kia Stinger 3.3T GT Limited AWD 4155 lbs
