Drip rails on roof paint issue

My blue stinger doing same thing. I found carbon fiber replacements. Going to try them out. 59.00. INC 3m adhesives.
You will have a problem with fitment. The seam has metal hooks that attach to the plastic tabs underneath the rail which holds the strip(s). 3m tape has nothing or at least very little to stick to.

I'm trying to keep all exterior parts OEM although I'm not opposed to wrapping the roof to black it out, I think that looks pretty cool. I'm taking the car in today to have Kia take a look at the rails and my sunroof (which has gotten so rattly that if even vibrates at idle sometimes).

I'm wondering if a wrap will prevent the paint from cracking because of protection from UV, or if it's purely due to thermal expansion.

shit paint + thermal expansion equals cracks....

Not on cars that don't have the issue. There is some variable at work.
The variable is having both conditions tormenting said rails.....Not many cars out there paint the rails in the first place

Go to your dealer and they replace it for free. Had the same issue went to my dealer they took couple pics to submit a report and called me back when it's ready.
Thanks for the advice! I had this same issue and went to the dealer last week. They even had them in stock so replaced the same day. They did say they stopped painting them because it just continues happening, so they are black, hard rubber material. Doesn't look as bad as I thought it would. I do have to go back because one part is coming up.

Would a ceramic coat on those "rubber" rails improve their appearance and preserve it? Then you could put black vinyl on the roof too and be completely cosmetic. :D

Or do what I did. Wire wheeled the rubber and paint right off. Still holding up well with a clear. Coat.

I'll check into that. I just started getting quotes for ceramic coating the whole vehicle.

So they are just not painting them but leaving them black? My Stinger is black so I imagine it may blend in okay until the rubber fades.

How do your new ones look?

Yes, it's not as bad as I thought it would look since the sunroof is black. I'll try to take a picture tomorrow to post

Yes, mine's started out like this and then every other paint piece chipped, looked horrible but I never thought to ask dealership about it until I saw it posted here. Sad the dealership did not offer to change it during one of my maintenance services either. Kia service lacks a lot in my town. Was happy it was covered under warranty.

They snap right off. So it’s not a big deal to replace. Gave mine a glance. They are holding up nicely. No rubber bare metal with a clear coat.

In this pic they look like an almost match to the dark chrome. :)

Close.
