Door Frame Ticking / Squeaking Elimination

I am disappointed to say the OP's solution in the first post did not solve my ticking. I've also removed the three white foam blocks.

I now have the Honda gasket lube being delivered next week. I don't have much hope in that either. Not sure what else to try.

The Shinetsu lube is worth a try for sure. on my driver side, i have to lube it every few months to stop a minor ticking there. i found that a good coverage is required on both the seals, on the door and on the body seals.

Well that's strike....... I've lost count. The Shin-Etsu lube didn't do anything for me.

This noise really sounds like "stiction." Like two different surfaces are stuck together with some sort of adhesive material and as the two surfaces shift independently of each other, that adhesive is releasing and re-sticking repeatedly. So... like those infamous white foam blocks. Except I've removed the three blocks that are easily accessible (by pulling the door seal on both front doors, and by removing the sunroof bug deflector).

This one really sounds like it's coming from behind or slight above the B-pillar cover, right next to my left ear. I think my next attempt will be removing that cover and investigating. Any tips on removing the B-pillar cover? I'll be searching for tips in the meantime.

For anyone who may be similarly trying to troubleshoot this noise, I found this guide for removing the headliner which includes how to remove the interior B-pillar trim in steps 4-8.

I'm hoping I can skip steps 1-3!! (removing all the seats!)

I plan to attempt to chase this sound this evening after work. Fingers crossed!

If you are pulling down the headliner, can you take some pictures and share with everyone? Although I don't have my Stinger anymore, I am genuinely interested to see what I was contemplating doing, lol. It'll help others here too.

I'm not planning on pulling the whole headliner out. My hope is to remove the driver's side B-pillar trim and find the source of the ticking either behind it or tucked under the headliner directly above it (maybe another foam block). I'll try to remember to take some pictures of what I find.

I got off work pretty early today so decided to dig in. I paid very close attention on my drive home and changed my focus to around the grab handle. I already completely removed the grab handle for a few days, but the ticking persisted.

Getting the B-pillar trim off wasn't too bad by following the directions I linked above. (First photo)

I found a small foam pad (second photo), but it already has a low-friction surface on the part that touches the roof frame, so I left it alone.

I found another white foam block right behind the B-pillar (third photo). Got that out of there.

Finally, I squeezed my hand under the headliner feeling around for things around the grab handle, and when I pulled my hand out, this plastic backing plate came out with it (fourth photo). I figured since it was in the area that I think the ticking is coming from, this might be the culprit. Somehow, some surface that this mates with reacts to high temperatures and makes noise as the body shifts (that's the theory, at least). I wrapped it in foam tape, wedged it back in place and buttoned it all up.

Got her parked out in the Texas sun for an hour or two before I test my theory... I'll report back shortly!

I'm cautiously jumping for joy. It is far too early to declare victory with confidence; that will come after a few days of sitting in the parking lot at work. But after sitting out for an hour and a half and the cabin feeling just as hot as it does after work, I took it for a drive and didn't hear a peep from the headliner/B-pillar/door. Not a peep. I actually heard the same noise from the passenger side, but at a much slower rate of ticking. I hadn't heard it from that side before; it was probably drowned out by the driver side. I can't express how excited I'll be if this fixes it... I absolutely adore this car in so many ways, but the rattles have put a HUGE damper on the experience (just like my previous two new vehicles). I've fixed the hatch; I've fixed the sunroof; I HOPE I've fixed the headliner!

I'll report back either when it starts again (hope not) or when I feel confident enough to say I found the root cause and remedied the passenger side too (hopefully).

I think I'm confident enough to say that I fixed the headliner ticking for good. It used to tick consistently if it was parked for a few hours in anything over about 80 degrees. I haven't heard the noise since I wrapped that backing plate in felt, and I've had it out in the hot sun for four days now. Hooray!

I hear the occasional tick from the passenger side too, so I'll probably do the same thing to that side soon.

Good job! I was always suspiscious of the backing plate although wrapping felt didnt fix it for me. Just interested if you think it was the backing plate or that other foam block you found?

Now you are in for a period of post tick anxiety where you think every slight noise is the return of the tick! haha.

I tend to think it was the backing plate, because it seemed like the sound was coming from forward of the B-pillar, right around the grab handle, instead of rearward of it. That said, I fully acknowledge that acoustics in cars are strange and often hard to pinpoint, so it could have been an acoustical illusion.

I too have the ticking after sitting in hot weather. Just as described right next to your ear. I found when lowering the grab handle and holding it the ticking went away. And once the cabin cools down. Again only when car is hot.
My bigger concern is the passenger side wind noise and rattle that I can hear from the drivers seat. I also sat in the passenger seat when cruising above 50mph and the wind noise and rattle is terrible. I will check the chrome accent as suggested. Have a dealer check up next week as well. My biggest issues to date.
1. Hot weather tick at driver pull handle
2. Passenger side wind noise and rattle
3. Vibration at highway speeds (empty passenger seat shakes, thinking flat spots or unbalanced wheels as the car sat for a while on the lot)

I finally got rid of all the ticking and creaking noises: I installed a Borla S-Type Cat-Back exhaust on my Stinger so now I don’t hear anything else.

Some of us would have some noises and squawks coming from inside the house if we did that.

if you ever find a way to quiet those without a divorce, please let me know. :p

One way that lessens it is to opt for the factory louder exhaust option when available. I bought my M240 with the M Performance exhaust, so since it "came from the factory that way," she doesn't think it's something I did that made the car louder. "Just the way it is," lol.

Problem is that for the Stinger, the bi-modal factory exhaust didn’t exist until recently...

Yep, I would have paid for it when I bought mine if it would have been an option.

I can confirm that's the case: I get that same ticking, and all I do is either press on the oh shit handle or pull it down and hold it, and the ticking stops. I guess it's my turn to pull the trim out and do what you did. However, you didn't quite present how you wrapped the backing plate or what part was really making the ticking, so I'm guessing I'll have to kind of play by ear, literally, lol

Try the foam block removal first imo, which is super quick and easy. I also wrapped the backing plate but it's a bit fiddly and wasn't the cause for me.
