3.3TT Mishimoto's Stinger GT Intercooler Kit R&D Thread

Hey, as a newb who knows how to make memes and knows nothing about the inside of the car. Should I get it? Why are you getting it? Should I get it if I literarily have 0 mods installed?

I would say first figure out if you want to mod the car. I'm getting it cause I am leaving myself open to future upgrades and this is something depending on the route I go would be helpful. There are other solutions out there that don't cost as much but to me this fits the build plan I have.

Is this going to be your very first performance mod?

If you don't mind me asking, what intake did you get, and why did you change it from the one that we currently have in the car?
Stock one is very restricted. Any YouTube video will tell you want you want to know about mods. Engineering explained is pretty good. Also the Mish kit should not be your first mod unless you live in Texas or some other inferno place. Like California. Even then meth is a better choice unless you don't like the complexity.

@Mishimoto any updates as to when they are going to start shipping?
Such a persistent question in this forum... I remember just this time last year several others asking the same thing... at least they've teased the price to reward your patience in holding out. Now when does their Stinger GT fmic system materialize? Thats still the question of the year/years...!!?? So, a big whatever and lol to Mishimoto. Besides Covid delays, it seems they've been to busy on their Supra/BMW products...

I've got patience and time.

As a business, it makes sense they would prioritize where the bigger market is. We have to accept that we are a very small market to sell in. They have more money to make in in the bmw/supra market because there are just more physical cars they can sell too

Yeah, no way this Mishi intercooler is going to play nice with the JT intakes. At least it certainly doesn't look like it in these two pictures... Bummer. I'm really interested to see what happens when you JT guys try to get this installed. Hopefully it "just" fits and I can get my JT order in soon enough. Anyone got a "next best" suggestion for an intake just in case? I'm guessing the Injens in terms of intake size, but the K&N and AEM intakes seem to offer somewhat decent insulation from the engine temps. So, cooler intake temps or more volume? Not sure what's gonna be best yet.

Just to give you a peek behind the proverbial curtain here, admittedly, yes, this intercooler kit did take longer than expected to develop and get it to you guys, but it was a combination of the timing of COVID hitting, plus some of the more complex parts to this kit that added to the development time, but we more than just teased the price, they're available for presale purchase!

Also, we're fortunate enough to have the bandwidth and resources to work on several projects at once, too! We actually have a team of 4 engineers all tackling their own queue of different products. This doesn't ever mean that one project gets more attention than the other, it just means that we use our time and resources wisely. For instance, our engineering team dove more into our Supra, F8X, Ranger, and Jeep products while this intercooler was in production and now while it's on its way to the warehouses. I'm not saying all of this to call you out in any way, but rather just to give an insider look at how we operate, and why you'll see blog/social media posts from us for other products while you're waiting on this one.

So, this all depends on your plans for the car. An intercooler system, in essence, it really a means of strengthening your platform for more power. The main goal is to allow for more boost pressure through the system while keeping that charged air cool. So, in essence, its adding more flow and better heat dissipation. Yes, the end result of improving on both of those typically results in a power boost, but the true potential from an intercooler is best paired with a tune, or turbo upgrade, or even both. If you're looking to tune your Stinger at some point, this kit will work great keeping the IATs in check, (tho otherwise it might be a better option for your build to invest in other mods to start off. Basically, it all depends on what you're planning in the long run for your Stinger, and even if it's not our parts that end up on there, we want to ensure that the build is best suited for you!

Let me know if you have any other questions!

omgomgomgomg please let this be true. :):):):)

I'm excited. I actually went ahead and made the cuts on the radiator shroud to get that piece out of the way. I'm ready to slap this bad boy in.

I thought about doing the same on mine. But I haven't even gotten around to installing my downpipes yet which have been sitting there for two weeks lol. Now I'm just hoping I can at least have my DPs installed before the Mishimoto kit gets here.

Anyone getting rid of their after market intercooler to upgrade to the mishimoto? Got a friend looking for one

Anyone who has jt intakes and Mishimoto intercooler and would like selling the extra merge intake collector pipe please let me know at your earliest convenience. Thank you.

What do you think the issue will be?

Fitment. Looking at the pictures, it seems like the passenger side JT intake will collide with the Mishimoto intercooler outlet pipe. I'm really hoping I'm wrong though. If it does fit, you might have just a mm of clearance. I'm holding off on buying the JT intakes until someone else has a chance to test it.

I'll try and let you know. I have the intakes installed and ordered the Mishi kit but I didn't plan on getting it installed until later this year when she goes into hibernation. I think I'll be able to test fit it at least in that one section.

Thanks! I wouldn't worry too much about it though because I'm sure Tonkabob is going to try to get his installed right away and he also has the JT intakes. Besides, September is a super busy month for work for me so I probably won't even be able to get the intercooler installed until October. Plenty of time :)
