I took my Stinger in for it's first oil change ($240! is that a normal price for a simple oil change?) and ever since, there is a smell of something burning after driving the car briefly (10-20 miles). Initially I thought they had spilled some oil but couldn't see anything on the engine. I finally spotted what appears to be a missing bolt right below the oil fill cap. There might also be a missing bolt just to the right of that bolt. I've called the dealership repeatedly but the service manager will not return my calls. Any idea what the burning smell could be? It doesn't smell electrical but more of hot fluids burning. It never had this smell before getting the oil changed. Thank you for any help.

I just checked and mine is the exact same as yours, no bolts in those 2 spots.

It's probably just a little spilled oil burning off.

As for the price, you basically got raped...lube less.

10 qts of full synthetic would cost you under $45 on Amazon (Stinger takes just over 7 qts so you would have almost 3 left over to use toward the next oil change). The filter is around $10 if I remember correctly. If all they did is changed the oil and filter you paid them over $200 for 10 minutes of labor.

That's normal. There are actually quite a few more places where it looks like bolts are missing if you look around. That is probably because the Lambda II engine is used in other cars. Those holes are used on some cars, and not used on others.

The price however.... no idea why you were charged so much. I had the dealership do my first and second oil change. first was free. second was $100. I've done them myself the last 3 times and will continue to do them myself because I don't trust anyone with my car. Unless they did some other service, they practically stole from you.

$240?! Were these bottles of oil personally refined from crude oil by the technician doing the oil change?!

It’s $50 for full synthetic around these parts

I forgot to mention that there's about 800 miles on the car after the oil change and still smell this burning smell.....

hmm. you don't have an oil catch can do you? a lot of OCC's give off vapor smells. Mine does.
Check your oil. And your coolant. If either is low, you may have a leak. but I doubt it. Can you smell it inside the car, or just after you get out after driving?

For the love of god, cal the stinger hotline and report the dealer that charged you that.

Seriously.

Kia Corp needs to know about crooked dealers.

It’s bad enough their certified techs have the IQ and precision of a 2 year old, but to then rip you off is salt in the wound.

Some of the bolt holes are used only to hold it during manufacturing. As for the oil smell, check youtlr evap lines

No OCC and no leaks. You can smell it immediately after opening a door.

As per the outrage over the cost of your "oil change", I'd be in the service department boss's face for an explanation. Go there first before bothering Kia Corp. Then take the whole conversation to them. They will want to know.:(

If you want to not have problems with your car after a simple oil change, stop going to stealerships and do it yourself.

Do you not have capped price servicing? A photo of the service invoice would be helpful.
As for that continuing smell, I'd be driving to the dealership and asking someone to look at it. Service Manager sounds pretty useless.

"Capped price servicing" is a new one for me, not familiar with that. I made an appointment for the car's first oil change as it had 3213 miles on it. Upon arrival, we also discussed rotating the tires. Apparently during that process, they curb rashed my front wheel (another post I have on here) and that still hasn't been fixed, either and probably why the service manager will not return my calls. Attached is the paperwork I received after paying my bill of $265.94. I also questioned why they installed fuel additive as I always use a Top Tier fuel and they installed oil conditioner, which they said was for the turbo? I've had several turbo cars in the past and adding oil for it was new to me, also. As for just driving to the dealership, it's 40 miles away and you can't just show up, an appointment is required because of Covid-19. Oh, they didn't even have the right tire pressures and I had to inform them of the correct pressures.

Never go to the dealer unless it's absolutely necessary. Majority of them are jokes. Find a good local mechanic and save your receipts.

They charged for a crush washer? It comes with the filter kit. Seem like they nickel and dimed everything they could.

Fuel additive?
Oil additive?
Wrong tire pressure!
Curb rashes rims!
Why did they replace the cabin air filter so prematurely? Was it defective.

This place sounds like an overpriced joke.

I've pointed this out before as well. $1.61 per oil change is substantial when you consider how many oil changes the dealer does. Lots of Kia service centers are doing this. Possibly plugged into their computers and automatically added in.
