Bad Dealership overfilled the oil

Had the car serviced at Lee Kia of Greenville this morning. After I got home and the car sat for about 45 minutes, I checked the oil. It's well above the Full mark, like to the top of the orange indicator thing.

I called them and requested they send a flatbed to take it back, since I don't want to drive it. Waiting on them to get back to me.

How do you screw up something that simple?

Update: The service manager drove out to my house to verify the oil was indeed over the level. He's sending a flatbed to the house to take it back to the dealership to fix.

Official dealers have screwed up so many things on my cars I don't even dare to count anymore...
E.g. my Stinger was delivered with the rear carpets swapped, the carpet on the drivers side was not put on the hooks and the others had the hooks done wrong.
The wheel bolts were insufficiently torqued.
Not all protective plastic was removed.
I'll be sure to check it thouroughly after getting it serviced!

same issue with every “non-premium” dealer.

Ford did the same thing all the time to my mustang.

I stopped having dealers handle normal maintenance like 10 years ago.
Not worth the risk.

Correct. I don't trust dealerships. Had one leave the oil filler cap off once. Didn't find it until I got home. This is a new-to-me dealership, and wanted to give them a chance.

And I was in a bind (leaving for a long trip tomorrow) and needed to get it done. I'll do it myself from now on.

Most dealerships have an automatic oil fill that will dispense a certain amount of oil depending on the vehicle. But put in the wrong make, model and you get the wrong amount of oil.

Purchased a used Audi S4 a few years ago. Picked it up and on my way home over an hour away from the dealership, low oil light comes on. Called dealership and they check the records. They had only added 6 quarts when it called for 9; they set the auto dispenser for the wrong car.

And I suspect that its the inexperienced techs that are put doing this job. It may seem trivial but is sure as hell isn't.

At least your dealership seems to be taking care of it.

I have no trust for any dealerships so I do everything myself.

So they brought the car back and the service manager said he checked it himself. I went out to look and this is what I found.

You guys tell me if I'm making this up or not. First is a dry dipstick. Second is partially inserted up to the rubber O-ring. Last is fully seated.

That is over-filled.

They probably didn't wait the recommended 5 minutes after running the engine.

(This is all documented clearly in the owners manual, which you should have.)

I had the same issue after my first oil change back in 2019. I used my jetski oil extractor to remove about a quart of oil. The receipt said quantity x8 for oil so the “tech” definitely overfilled it. I make sure to check the level before driving away after oil changes now.

Definitely over filled. An oil change should not be this difficult for a dealership, not should it cause you this much frustration and inconvenience.

I had the same issue after my first oil change back in 2019. I used my jetski oil extractor to remove about a quart of oil. The receipt said quantity x8 for oil so the “tech” definitely overfilled it. I make sure to check the level before driving away after oil changes now.

So yeah, my receipt shows 8 quarts. The owners manual quotes 7.29 quarts for a drain and refill. The service manual says total capacity is 8.14 quarts, oil pan is 7.19 quarts, drain and refill including filter (agrees with the OM) is 7.29 quarts.

Talked to the service manager again and pointed this out. He says they actually put 7.3 quarts in the car, "which it requires", but the billing system doesn't let them charge partial quarts, so it has to say 8. It's on its way back a second time, on a wrecker.

I think they just check it right after stopping the engine. He just brought the car back and did exactly that in my garage. Pulled the dipstick out 10 seconds after stopping the engine, looked at it, and said yeah its good.

I told him I was going to wait to check it and I'd call him back if it was still over. It is. So here's a picture from the Kia service manual. What does range B mean to you guys? "A" means you overfilled it, drain it out and start over. But does "B" mean, if it's here, don't do anything?

Seems like B is the upper limits of full capacity, I don’t understand why they didn’t just drain a little out of it the first time..

So it says three times in the oil change procedure to make sure you don't fill it past the Full line, in bold callout boxes. But then there's that picture.

Also when I mentioned my transmission felt like it was slipping from time to time the mechanic - not the service guy - the mechanic said - "Impossible - Stingers have dual clutch transmissions." The mechanic said this. To my knowledge all Stingers have a good old 8 speed automatic.

I had to bring by Stinger back so he could drain some out. Ugh!

Wow, the tech said the car has a DSG?! My understanding up here in Canada is that certain techs were trained to work on the Stinger and only those techs can complete work on the cars here.
