3.3TT How are Stinger owners cleaning their valves on their GDI engines?

common sense that Direct injected engine always have that carbon build up issue over time due to no fuel passing trough the valves to clean them.

I do it or peace of mind and something to do lol.

If you need something to do buy a BMW with > 100k miles on it, preferably with turbo's and an automatic.

But ... I would argue that DI engines don't have to have buildup - using fuel to clean the valves just solves the symptom of too much oil vapor in the intake tract, which usually gets there from PCV or EGR systems. Some brands are terrible at it (BMW) some are better (Subaru). I guess we don't have enough miles on the Kia's to really know how well they manage it.

Yeah I am good on a BMW LOL.

I mean I agree to disagree. Sure might be a problem or it might not be a problem.

I prefer to do this cheap easy maintenance and not have to find out or worry about it down the road.

It would be a lot more expensive down the road if there was an issue, than just doing a cheap bottle of sea foam every 10k or so.

I personally don't mind working on my own car's and like the peace of mind.

As the old saying goes....

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Just clarifying, using Crc or something like it is ok at the throttle body? I've only done it on NA cars just wanna make sure I'm using the right spot.

I cleaned my valves with CRC but with the engine off. I even posted a thread about it. Take surge tank off, turn the engine with a wrench to make sure your valves are closed. Spray and let it soak. Suck or mop up the leftovers.

I ended up just using a vacuum line, thanks!

How difficult is it to pull apart the 3.3 to get to the valves?

Surge tank is pretty simple. Couple of bolts. I didn't take off the intake manifold itself. Could reach the valves with it on.

Awesome, needs a YouTube tutorial

You can actually watch the Tork spark plugs YouTube video. They remove the surge take/intake manifold to get to the spark plugs, so you can see the steps involved with doing it.

I've pulled my surge tank/intake manifold twice now, and the second time I was able to get it off in 15 minutes. It's really not bad at all. Underneath the surge tank/manifold are the runners, which are also easily removed if you want even better access to the intake valves.

I suppose at some point I could do a tutorial of removing the manifold. I don't really have enough room on my phone to do a full video of the entire thing, also, I don't have much time on my hands anymore due to family obligations (new baby). Maybe I could figure something out though.

The main cause of IVD would be the blow by, which one cannot control.
Therefore the most preventive action besides catch can would be to use oil with lowest NOACK & to not over extend OCI

AMSOIL signature series seems to have very good NOACK but expensive.

How effective would it be to run the engine at say, 4,000 RPM for about 20 minutes? I did the "ol' Italian tune" up on my Optima after a year of city driving and had black soot/heavy deposits all over the back of the trunk.

I think Engineering Explained on YouTube did a video on the Italian tune up and if I recall, they said it helped certain parts and made certain parts worse
